Since both Copper and Cinnamon are getting older and have health conditions that require special diets and supplements, we created “Sausage Dog Soup”. It’s a low calorie lunch that supplements the Royal Canin prescription kibbles they eat for breakfast and dinner. It keeps them full and happy too.

The soup is packed full of nutrients, fiber and a good source of hydration. It really helps maintain good poops too. While it is safe for most dogs with heart conditions and liver issues, it’s always recommended to consult your vet before making any decisions.

It’s been taste tested by all the dogs here and they agree it’s delicious! Technically it’s healthy for humans too, though we’ll leave you to taste test it 😝

Sausage Dog Soup Recipe (makes enough for two dogs for around 21 days):
- 4-6 ounces of lean chicken breast (ensure you use the kind without a salt solution added)
- 4-6 ounces of lean beef (we buy 93% fat free ground beef, boil it and drain out the fat)
- 1/2 a bag of baby carrots
- 1 large ripe tomato
- 12 ounces of fresh or frozen blueberries
- 2 cans of plain pumpkin puree
- Around 36 ounces of frozen or fresh green beans
- 1 small sugar pumpkin (remove stem and seeds)
- 2-3 broccoli crowns with stems
- 2 sticks of celery
- 2 zucchini
- 2 bell pepper (remove stem and seeds)
- 1 small seedless watermelon (remove the rind)

You can remove or add things depending on your dog’s preferences and dietary needs. Vegetables can be steamed first if desired. Everything can be blended in a blender, then mixed together in a big mixing bowl. We freeze two day portions in ziplocks.

Who wants a Chihuahua just in time for Christmas? Little Miss Ginger Spice, our newest Church of Pug foster, wants to make sure you adopt her in time to get her lots of Christmas presents! 🎁🎄

Her profile says 12 years old, but she acts much younger. I’ll have the vet confirm her age during her dental. She is super sweet, with a little bit of spice (she is a Chihuahua of course) and great with other dogs. She comes when she’s called, figured out ramps right away and looks like a purebred longhaired Chihuahua.

We have a new Church of Pug foster dog! When we saw her photo we just knew we had to help her! Gidget the miracle pup arrived at my house this evening. She is skin and bones, but so sweet. She had a bath, she gobbled up her dinner and now she’s cuddled on the sofa with me and the other dogs here. She will make a family very happy. She has such a good personality.

Copper & Cinnamon want your vote for president! The 🫏 and 🐘 have done a poor job lately, so it’s time for a 🌭 to run things!

Our Campaign Promises:

- Breaking a treat in half and pretending it’s a full treat is a felony offense.
- No bathroom door can ever be closed, unless the dogs are inside supervising their human.
- No dog can be forced to go to a vet; the vet has to come to them if they’re sick.
- Dogs who are put on a diet have the right to make their human follow the same diet.
- Nail trimming scissors are illegal.
- Crate doors are illegal, so no one can force you to stay inside unless you want to be there.
- Every family must have a ramp to their sofa and bed, in case the dog wants to sleep there.

This weekend we are honoring all the dogs we’ve cared for who have crossed the rainbow bridge. Caring for seniors and special needs dogs is very rewarding and full of love, but often feels like their time with us is too short. We are choosing to celebrate the Day of the Dead (Dia De Los Mu***os), a holiday that reunites the living and dead.

Families create ofrendas (Offerings) to honor their departed family members that have passed. These altars are decorated with bright yellow marigold flowers, photos of the departed, and the favorite foods and drinks of the one being honored. The offerings are believed to encourage visits from the land of the dead as the departed souls hear their prayers, smell their foods and join in the celebrations!

We have included photos of some of the pups we’ve cared for who have passed. We encourage you to post a picture of your loved pup(s), whether living or passed too. ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

Recently we discovered that Copper has some heart-related health concerns. We decided to roadtrip to WSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital to get a lot of tests run by their cardiology department. Hazey the Frenchie with IVDD and Bosco the panda-looking pup joined the roadtrip. Cinnamon is not a fan of car rides, so she stayed with a friend.

The dogs enjoyed the adventure, the night in a big bed at a hotel and new places to explore. We are glad to be home now though.
