This weekend we are honoring all the dogs we’ve cared for who have crossed the rainbow bridge. Caring for seniors and special needs dogs is very rewarding and full of love, but often feels like their time with us is too short. We are choosing to celebrate the Day of the Dead (Dia De Los Mu***os), a holiday that reunites the living and dead.

Families create ofrendas (Offerings) to honor their departed family members that have passed. These altars are decorated with bright yellow marigold flowers, photos of the departed, and the favorite foods and drinks of the one being honored. The offerings are believed to encourage visits from the land of the dead as the departed souls hear their prayers, smell their foods and join in the celebrations!

We have included photos of some of the pups we’ve cared for who have passed. We encourage you to post a picture of your loved pup(s), whether living or passed too. ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

Today, we had an unexpected loss of Maxine. She’d been fighting hard against cancer. We all loved her so much and will miss her.

Recently we discovered that Copper has some heart-related health concerns. We decided to roadtrip to WSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital to get a lot of tests run by their cardiology department. Hazey the Frenchie with IVDD and Bosco the panda-looking pup joined the roadtrip. Cinnamon is not a fan of car rides, so she stayed with a friend.

The dogs enjoyed the adventure, the night in a big bed at a hotel and new places to explore. We are glad to be home now though.

Today we attended the Pugoween annual carnival. It is the largest Church of Pug event of the year. I dressed up as a “Fairy Dog Mother” as I always say that’s the role I fill in dogs’ lives. I’m the person who magically joins their lives to love, care and spoil them when they stay at Copper’s Resort 💗

I have fostered/helped over 30 dogs since I started volunteering with dog rescues. It was great to get to see other volunteers, rescue supporters and dog lovers today. The dogs I brought loved how much attention they got too and the new friends they made. I also loved running into some of the past foster dogs I’ve cared for and seeing how happy they are now with their forever families. 🥰

We had a fun visit to a pumpkin patch today. The dogs loved running around. When they got home, they got some fresh roasted pumpkin and slices of apple as a treat. 🍎🎃

Today we explored the magical Gnome Trail in Maple Valley. Hundreds of gnomes of different sizes are hidden along the trail waiting to be discovered. Zoey the puppy tried to take one home, but I rescued the gnome and put it safely back in its spot.
