This event booked extremely quickly so we worked to add 10 additional spots this year to accommodate as many pets as logistically possible. We appreciate everyone's patience as we put this event together each year and we are so grateful for your support. For those who were unable to book a photo this year, we hope to see you next year!

About Homeward Trails:
Homeward Trails Animal Rescue is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. Founded in 2002, they secure temporary and permanent homes for thousands of dogs and cats annually who are rescued from under-resourced communities and shelters or whose owners can no longer care for them.

Homeward Trails also rescues animals internationally and has partners in numerous countries including Thailand, Kuwait, Peru, Russia, Ukraine and more. They also provide spay/neuter for hundreds of street dogs and cats annually in Puerto Rico through their GuaniCARES program.

In 2020, Homeward Trails created their Trails UP program which brings lifesaving resources, training, education, outreach and funding to Virginia’s most under-resourced communities. Trails UP provides Trap-Neuter-Return and spay/neuter programs, vaccine clinics and sustainable solutions and programs to address the root causes of animal homelessness.

Have you heard the term 'food insecurity' before?
Food insecurity means that individuals or families are so limited in their resources that they are unable to purchase enough nutritious food. In Northern Virginia, more than 75,000 people are food insecure. Families facing food insecurity may start eating less food, cutting out meat or vegetables, feeding their children cheap processed meals, or skipping meals so that their children can eat.

The Woofie's team is dedicated to supporting our community and we would love it if you would join us! Starting today until December 20th, we will be running a donation drive for Food for Others, an integral part of Northern Virginia’s safety net that has been distributing food to those in need since 1995.

The list below contains some of the basic donation items we are suggesting, however, we also recommend including holiday food items.

We cannot accept homemade or cooked foods.

We WILL accept any food items that are labeled, sealed, in original packaging, and unexpired. We ARE able to accept perishable items and encourage these donations as they are not as frequently donated but still vital to families.

Food for Others is the largest provider of free groceries directly to people in need in Northern Virginia. They are a safe place to turn for those in need of food, serving 3,000+ households on average per week. Please join Woofie's in helping our neighbors in need.

Georgia wants to remind everyone to ensure their Halloween candy is out of reach of curious pets this spooky season. Did you know that chocolate isn’t the only toxin found in sweet treats? Xylitol, also known as birch sugar or wood sugar, is a sweetener often found in sugar free treats and is extremely toxic and potentially deadly for pets.

This is a great opportunity to talk to your kids about the dangers of sharing candy and other human food with their pets. You can even make it a fun activity by showing them how to safely offer pet treats instead!

URGENT: A long time client of ours just let us know that these two sweet pittie mixes are in need of a loving home. Unfortunately the owner just had a stroke and is unable to continue taking care of them.

Meet Boo👻 and Lightning⚡️

About:
• Boo is the white female(spayed) pit mix
• Lightning is the black and white male(neutered) pit mix
• Both are each around 50-60 lbs.
• Both dogs are approximately 6 years old.
• While they are a bonded pair, they can be rehomed separately if necessary.

Compatibility:
• Boo does best as the only dog in the household, while Lightning is generally good with other dogs but he prefers a calm environment.
• Both are good with children and have been around kids with no issues.
• Boo doesn’t do well with cats, and Lightning has not had much exposure, so we’re unsure of his reaction.

Behavior:
• They are both farm dogs and have been happiest in a place with space to run. Boo does okay on a leash, but Lightning could use some training in this area.

Health:
• Both dogs are spayed/neutered and up-to-date on vaccines.
• Boo has manageable allergies that respond well to medication.

I took this photo of Georgia in January, at her first Watch Me Grow session, when she was nine weeks old. She came over today for her third shoot, and she couldn't have been sweeter! Plus the trees at my house are beautiful right now, and her coat looks great with fall colors!

We had a great day today with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington for their career exploration field trip. Today the kids learned about interacting with small pets gently and calmly, played pet care trivia games, scavenger hunts, and watched an adorable corgi named Rocket be groomed by Certified Professional Groomer Lemaj, all while learning about what it’s like to be a Professional Pet Groomer!

Passion for animals and pet care often begins at a very young age so it’s incredibly important to nurture that interest and supplement it with knowledge and engaging experiences as they grow. We are so grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with the Boys and Girls Club of America Greater Washington Clubs and their members! We’re already looking forward to their next visit!

We had an amazing evening with the Belmont Dog Lovers Club at their Paws on the Patio! We are so grateful for the invite and for each of the amazing pet parents who came out to chat with us, learn about our services, and get their dogs nails trimmed! We are so passionate about supporting our community and these events truly warm our hearts.

🥁The moment you've been eagerly waiting for is here! We are overjoyed to announce the two winners of our Furry Face Photo Contest! 🥁

Winners will have their picture featured on our next 2 grooming vans!! It was a very difficult decision, as all of the our furry candidates were incredibly cute and their pictures melted our hearts!

After much deliberation, we are happy and proud to announce the two winners are:

Ruby, the Corgi owned by Judith Grass - Ruby's beautiful smile radiated in her photo and won our hearts and earned her a spot on our first grooming van which is due to arrive in early December!!

Runni, the Shih Tzu owned by Brian Carlson - Runni's personality is pure joy and cuteness and he will have a special spot on our second grooming van which is estimated to arrive in late December!!
