Piper
Piper is going home soon, and Iām pretty happy with her progress! Sheās a lot of dog with a lot of energy! But sheās been able to focus in on her commands and stay focused!
Agility
Over the weekend, I had the opportunity to attend a working k9 competition that Precision K9 Detection put together! (P.S. it was amazing!)
This is my dog, Reggie, who ran this course so nicelyā¦. AFTER the competition š
Unfortunately, not so much the first time, but thatās okay, it was 100% worth it!
This was our first time trying out some of the obstacles, so Reggie had never even seen some of these, before! Weāve built a strong team together and Iām honestly just happy he trusts me enough to attempt anything I throw at him! This is the relationship I want everyone to have with their dogs, no matter the task! A relationship that is built on trust, confidence, and communication!
Piper!
So Iāve been working in the doggy daycare area at Meganās Northgate Animal Boarding and Daycare, but!!! Now weāve added a board and train program! Piper is our first student to try it out at the facility and sheās doing great! Sheās a very happy pup with lots of love to give to everyone she passes, so beginning by showing her how to stay focused on me should help the rest of training go successfully!
Confidence building
Having your dog try new and different things is one of the best ways to build confidence in themselves and trust in you as a trainer/owner!
I got this new, fun toy that everyone got to try out for the first time this morning! Itās okay to introduce things to your pup slowly, just donāt give up if they donāt understand right away! Theyāll get there!
If you ever need a teammate for bobbing for apples, I think Athena can help!š
Let them figure it out!
I love watching dogs figure out their problems! No, itās not anything crazy, but what good would it have done if I just came over and helped him? He was able to figure it out on his own!šš»
Raindrops
Oh to be a puppy catching rain drops and snowflakesšš
Donāt set your dog up to fail.
Little Miss Penny! Though she loves daycareā¦ she doesnāt quite love other dogs all the timeš so while I slowly help her with her social skills and impulse control, I want to make sure she listens to me and trusts me. If I threw her in with a group of dogs too quickly and without practice, it would be setting her up to fail. So she got a little one on one time today with me and we had so much fun!
Control
I love this progress! Gunner LOVES people. He gets wiggly, jumpy, whiny, and any other excitement behavior you could imagine when he gets pets and greeted! So to have him sit here and sit calmly with all the noise and someone new coming over to pet him! Ugh! Iām just so proud of him!
Getting greeted with hugs at doggy daycare!š
Hugs
Getting greeted with hugs at daycare, today! Iām not a fan of dogs jumping up on me, but if weāre playing and Iām literally at their level, itās free game! As long as theyāre still respectful. Otherwise playtime is over.š
Retrieving
Gunner is working on his retrieval skills! I donāt normally condone dogs ācounter surfingā but this lanyard could be in any place in any position, so I need him to be able to locate it in all sorts of spots! As long as heās being asked to grab it!
The tunnel
I brought the tunnel to daycare today! Itās a bit of a hit or miss with most dogs at first! Usually itās a little scary when they first try, but as soon as they make it out on the other side, they realize how fun it really can be! So glad these pups enjoyed it today
