As the temperature drops, it’s easy to assume that heartworm and flea prevention for your pets can take a back seat. However, these pesky parasites don’t hibernate in the winter, and they can still pose a threat to your beloved fur babies. ♥️🦟

Here’s why winter prevention is crucial:
1️⃣ Heartworms Don’t Hibernate: Heartworm-carrying mosquitoes may be less active in the cold, but they’re not gone. Heartworm disease can be devastating, and prevention is the best defense.

2️⃣ Fleas Find Warm Havens: Fleas can infest your home year-round. With the cozy warmth inside, your pets can still fall victim to fleas. Prevention is the key to keeping them itch-free.

Stay consistent, continue your pet’s heartworm and flea prevention regimen throughout the winter. Consistency is key to keeping them safe.

We know that Thanksgiving means your kitchens are packed getting dinner ready for the family. Your pet might be begging or looking for dropped goodies that they can gobble down. Be sure to keep your pet away from the foods mentioned below. 🍗

On this Veterans Day, we honor not only the heroes in uniform but also the four-legged companions who served alongside them. Military working dogs have provided loyalty, protection, and service in times of need, just as you have. Their bond with service members is a testament to the strength and courage found in all who serve.

As a veterinary practice dedicated to the well-being of animals, we understand the special role that pets play in the lives of veterans and their families. Whether they offer companionship, emotional support, or assistance, these pets are true heroes in their own right.

A question that we are often asked is “how can I tell if my pet is in pain if they cannot tell me?” Pets can be very stoic in how they communicate that they are in pain, so at times they may not show any signs. The most common responses to look for are depression, aggression, limping, resistance to petting or grooming, not eating, panting excessively, and much more.
