We know the work we do is not easy or fun but, it’s necessary. That’s why we need help and, we are always so grateful for anyone willing to spend their time helping. We’ve learned that someone is spoofing our phone number — making it look like the call is coming from us — and telling people their missing pet has been found injured, and that they need to send thousands of dollars over the phone for emergency treatment.

Please know: this is not us. Richmond Animal League will never ask for payment over the phone like this.

This scam is especially heartbreaking because it preys on people’s love for their pets. We can’t imagine the fear and panic these calls are causing, and we’re so sorry to anyone who’s been targeted. If you ever receive a call like this and are unsure, please hang up and contact us directly at 804-379-0046 to confirm.

We’ve reported the scam and are doing what we can to stop it. In the meantime, please help us by sharing this post to protect others.
