Central Wyoming Aviary- Rescue & Sanctuary CWA (Central Wyoming Aviary) , Official 501 (c) (3) non-profit avian rescue that serves Wyoming and the surrounding states.

CWA (Central Wyoming Aviary) is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit parrot rescue located in Riverton, WY. For over 10 years, CWA has operated as a foster-based rescue but we recently got our very own facility! We pride ourselves in educating others on the complicated needs of these complex creatures. Our mission is to educate as many as possible so re-homing and the over breeding of these precious souls wil

l STOP. Once a bird is in rescue, we quarantine and evaluate. After several weeks and a vet check, the parrots are either adopted out to forever homes or we provide life long care if needed. We have an extensive adoption process that includes an application, interview, home and reference check and several meetings with our birds. Our services include surrendering, fostering, and adoption. Our rescue is run entirely by volunteers and everything we do is for the birds. �

It with a very heavy heart that I write this post, so bare with me...
Due to personal circumstances of the board members, a lack of public interest, and the loss of our facility coming this summer, CWA has decided to dissolve as a 501c3 avian rescue.

For over 10 years, CWA has rescued, rehabilitated and adopted out abused, neglected and/or unwanted parrots in Wyoming and the surrounding states. Since inception, CWA has placed thousands of birds. The work we have done matters.

When a 501c3 dissolves, the organization must either turn over all assets to the government or to another like 501c3 organization. CWA has decided to disperse all birds and assets to SWEAR. SouthWest Exotic Avian Rescue (SWEAR) is a 100% volunteer, 501(c)3 nonprofit avian rescue based in Las Vegas, Nevada. For many years, CWA and SWEAR have operated as sister rescues, helping each other out, in the best interest of the birds. We are so very grateful that SWEAR has stepped up and helped CWA out during this very difficult time.

Wyoming may have another 501c3 avian rescue coming soon.
CWA adopter, Charlene W., has decided that she wants to start her own rescue (Friends of Feather). When everything is official, we will share all of the information for the public.

CWA has filed our intent to dissolve with the state of Wyoming and the IRS. CWA will be completely dissolved the summer of 2024 and a public announcement will be made with every step and detail of the dissolution.

Abu update for everyone. So far, Abu has had 2 beak trims, lots of showers, destroyed some toys, enjoyed hours of preening and cuddles and she absolutely loves her new cage.

Below are some before and after beak pictures. Her beak is very brittle and scary to trim but we are getting there.

Her personality is really beginning to come out and she's a little clown. She is cage aggressive but loves people attention once she is out of her cage.

Tonight we received a generous donation from Lisa Norris and Lorraine Tibbetts. Lorraine sadly passed away recently and her family sent a donation to Lisa N. to donate to the rescue of her choice, in her honor, because she loved birds. We are honored that Lisa selected CWA. Meet Abu

Abu was surrendered last night and her owners stated that they can longer take care of her. They stated that the vet in their area would no longer see Abu because her beak issues were so extensive. It's not our place to determine what is true or not. Abu is with us now and for that, we are so thankful. If you scroll through the photos, you will see how much better Abu's beak is looking after I trimmed it last night. It will take several sessions to treat her scissor beak.

Adoption Announcement- We first met Sassy many years ago when she was surrendered to CWA. After a long time in foster care, she found a wonderful home. Unfortunately that adopter is now facing some very serious medical issues and she needed to return Sassy to CWA. Please keep that adopter in your prayers. She loved Sassy so very much and this decision was very hard for her.

After having Sassy at the rescue only a short time, Michelle reached out hoping to add a member to her flock and family. She originally thought about adopting another Macaw but when I told her about Sassy, she knew right away that they needed eachother. Sassy is doing AMAZING in her new home and we are so very happy that all of this worked out.

Buddy is available for adoption! Our website is extremely out of date at the moment, so I'm going to update everyone on here. When Buddy first came to CWA she was a bit spicy. She was also notorious for breaking out of her cage. We moved Buddy into a foster home several months ago and she's a new bird. Buddy absolutely loves human interaction and when her cage is open, she will walk around to find her people. She loves head scratches and kisses. Buddy has a slight preference for women but would be great in a family home. Busy, busy day at the rescue. We had 15 birds surrendered today and 1 adoption take place. We spent the day cleaning, rearranging, assembling cages, trimming tiny nails, chasing around flying monsters 😉, and taking adorable pictures and videos. If you know of anyone looking for small birds, please send them our way. We currently have 3 diamond doves, 7 finches, and 10 budgies all looking for families to call their own. Riley

Riley is a Miligold Macaw. She was a transfer from one of our sister rescues and we are still getting to know her. She very SPUNKY! She's cage aggressive but we are learning that she a completely different bird when out of her cage. Her cage aggression is getting much better however. She even let me give her head scratches while she was in her cage today. Riley needs someone with a lot of patience to build trust with. Riley would really thrive in a home with lots of macaw experience. She also has a preference for women, loves music and dancing 💛💚💙

If you notice, we are missing a few birds. Our sweet Sissy and Gator were recently moved to foster homes with the hope of adopting. Annie is currently in a foster home as well. Lots of wonderful things happening ❤❤

Polly and Pepe

Adoption Announcement- We couldn't be more thrilled to make this announcement. Our sweet, beautiful, opera singing one- eyed California girl has found her happy ever after. Polly came to us from California and she spent about 6 months at the CWA house, then was moved her to a foster home. Lucky for us, our fosters are THE BEST in the world and our foster found Polly the perfect home. Jenn and Endger and their Amazon, Pepe visited Polly and it was a PERFECT match. These 2 are already loving being in a flock and they see Polly for the beautiful QUEEN that she is. Polly is going to spend the rest of her life being pampered and spoiled and our hearts are completely FULL. CONGRATULATIONS!!! Below is a video of Polly and Pepe 💚💛💚💛💚

Sweet Jay Baby

Oh Jay.... What a DAY yesterday. Our friend, Nancy was coming over to pick up Penn to foster him, Michele was there visiting birds and potential adopters had just met Gator for the first time, when Chloe noticed that Jay was bleeding everywhere!!! Jay had chewed through a brand new rope perch, exposing a wire underneath and punctured his little foot! I tried all the old tricks to get it to stop but it was too deep. We ran to the vet and it stopped for awhile, but he kept picking it at it making it bleeding again. I finally got it to stop bleeding late last night after following some great advice from my dear friend Skye Marsh of SWEAR. Jay slept by my bed last night in a small cage and I think I must have woke up at least 12 times to check on him. He's doing GREAT, eating a apple, and preening my legs this morning. Thank goodness!!!! I'm going to inhale some coffee because today is a big day!!! Volunteers are coming to help set up macaw cages, deep clean and prepare for 5 new intakes coming in at 3.

Maddie

We are now accepting applications for Maddie!!! Maddie says...I am such a joy and full of laughter. If you start laughing I will join in laughing with you. I love to give kisses and go muah 💋 with a final awwww. Raspberries sounds I love to make. And don’t forget to play your favorite song for me, I love to dance! How about fetch give me my favorite ball and I will throw back to you all day if I could. I will step up on a stick when out of cage, or if I’m on the floor I have no problem stepping up on you. Even Coco is thrilled that it's Friday!!! We hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!

I've been over the moon excited for the last 48 hours. I adopted CoCo from SWEAR about 9 months ago. Shortly after I adopted her, Max came to CWA and I had to focus a lot of my time on him. Slowly , I've built trust with CoCo but she had an AWFUL habit of bolting the second you opened her cage. She would climb to the top, get aggressive, and would only step up on a perch. Yesterday, for the first time ever, she stepped right up for me. I praised this good behavior with my voice, scratches, and almonds and for the last 2 days we have practiced stepping up over 50 times lol. I'm happy to report that CoCo is a pro now and I feel like she finally completely trusts me 100 percent. I had to share because too often people give up on their birds because of bad behaviors. Take your time and build trust slowly. It's soooo worth it in the long run. ❤💚💙💛 so proud of you CoCo!

After several weeks in foster and a vet check the parrots are either adopted out to forever homes or we try and find a proper sanctuary for them. CWA also has developed a large community of bird loving people on Facebook. These people are the heart and soul of CWA, and come from all around the globe. CWA has a mission to build a sanctuary for these precious souls, with your help WE CAN DO IT! Our sanctuary will be for all our re homes and rescues both adoptable and and non-adoptable. We Rescue, Rehabilitate, Educate, Adopt, and Inform.
