You can make plans and you can make excuses, but sometimes you need to just make it happen.

We can strategize and plan so much that we forget how to just grit up and go for it.

Do your homework, be prepared and then go into it with the confidence of your 20-year-old self! You have nothing to lose. You owe it to yourself to lay it all on the line. You’ve worked for this, you’ve put the time in, don’t hold back just because you’re afraid to lose.

Sometimes it’s going to work, and sometimes it won’t. But if you gave it everything you had, don’t be disappointed. Be proud of yourself and carry on!

It ain’t always perfect, especially working with young ones. We had a little mishap where the bridle fell off the saddle horn this morning and it upset him pretty good. Luckily he stuck to what he knew, and that if he calmed down we could get the bridle untangled.

He was able to work through some baby emotions, and we had a nice work out. Sometimes you just wake up on the wrong side of the bed 🤷🏼‍♀️😝

I finished up my long work day, headed out to Clifton Forge, VA to work with Abby and Creed the OTTB for the first time! We did a lot of focus work with Creed, and working with him on respecting boundaries. A 10/10 good boy with a lot of energy that needs to be put to good use!

🦕 first day out, and he did awesome! Did some desensitizing, transitions, and flexing. All in all, a good Dino boy!

Ava and Bullet had a great lesson today! They were much more consistent at the jog and we did some loping today. Ava is getting back in the grove after a riding hiatus, and bullet is getting back in shape after “retirement” 😆

We need one more horse for the Longwood Equestrian Team for the 2024-2025 school year. It is a care lease situation. Must be able to w/t/c with riders of varied levels and jump at least 2'. Sound enough to work consistently. We don't need perfect, a little green is OK, it will get a lot of experience and good training, but not any prone to bucking or major spooking. Not to even mention rearing or other dangerous behavior. Please message if you have one you'd like us to consider.

1 more 30 day training/consignment horse in August
2 horses for 30 day training/consignment in September
Travel lessons (must have your own horse) English/western, problem horses, young horses

Couldn’t even tell ya’ when the last time she was rode. Matter of fact, I couldn’t tell ya’ when the last time ✨I✨ rode her in the last 6 years. I spent the last few weeks re-starting her so to speak on ground work.. (something special about a horse you trained when you were a teenager 😆 iykyk)

Anyway, I didn’t expect anything less. 🖤

To maintain an attached, supple balance of your seat …

Imagine your stirrups are like a trampoline. You cannot brace into a trampoline, but if you keep your ankles, knees and hips soft and able to bend, you can maintain your balance on the trampoline.

Little I Competition

I had the pleasure of judging for such a lovely club, where each competitor had 3 weeks to practice for their category. A showmanship pattern was performed, as well as “Round Robin” where each category was quizzed on their species as well as the other categories!

Interestingly enough, some of the participants had never shown a horse before or even handled one! They put their knowledge from their degree program to good use, as well as their practice from the 3 weeks prior.

Miss Ava came out today and took a lesson on old tries and true Bully! So crazy to me she’s as tall as me now, can reach my stirrups, and can even drive a car (with supervision)!

I used to have to put buddy stirrups on the saddle so she could reach the stirrups!

I included a throwback photo of her riding Elliott. 🥹

A little glimpse of our 2023, it was a really good one! (Also a really hot one🤪) I met some of the most awesome people, made some of the greatest friends, and also worked with some super cool horses. I’ll forever be grateful for what 2023 taught me as a horseman! Ready to take on 2024! 👊🏻

Yesterday I loved how soft and responsive she had gotten on the lunge line, when we started she was very speedy/unbalanced. Still not perfect but an improvement ✅ Added a little clip of one of beauty’s party tricks lol 🤦🏻‍♀️ she’s going to be a trail pony, so I have been wanting to put her in some spots where she was under some pressure and work on her going forward. A small amount of sass, but then she very winglingly crossed the tarp. Lots of good girl pets and snoot boops! Good girl! * I do not own the rights to this music*

Pipers not been consistently worked in almost 5 years! They don’t forget. 🥰

Apollo has done a great job learning to be very tolerant of whatever we throw at him. (Katelyn Martin literally threw herself on him) 😆 this little stinker is 3 days free of any pony sass (iykyk) 🤣 Proud of him!!

Apollo says I’m 2 days free of any pony sass/shenanigans 🤣😝 Let him go around on the ground poles, to try and get him to build some muscle! Although he was trying all he could to dodge the poles 🤣

I’m just the most proud of this guy, he has relaxed a ton! He was very deserving of just a chill ride 🥰

Katelyn and Wildflower got a bit of a start yesterday! They worked at desensitizing and not crowding when leading! Wildflower is so precious 🥰

To finish off Apollos ride, we decided to walk him around the property and see what he’d think! He gets An A!! He was very brave! Until he saw a metal chair and a pile of tires, lol! He worked through it seamlessly! Good boy Apollo! PM Me if interested in buying him!

Apollo was such a good noodle yesterday! Minimal pony sass from him. (iykyk) 🤣 I would say the biggest area of improvement for him is how much more patient he is! When we started he would not stand tied with out digging a giant hole 🕳️. He’s not perfect, but he stands much better! He also has improved with yielding the hindquarters, as he does much better with moving away from pressure, instead of moving toward it! Naturally, Katelyn Martin and I had to put him through the test to see what he’d tolerate, since he is for sale! There’s one thing Apollo is not… and that is spooky! He is a brave pony!

Little stinker update.. 🫣😆 dodged about 5 kicks today. Not really wanting to stand tied, very protective over his bucket of food. Worked at hustling those feet around, and some voice commands, WOAH (and actually woah wandering away when he’s not in the mood)yielding the hind quarters, backing, and some of the sending exercise on the fence since a certain little pony… we won’t name names (*cough* Apollo) wanted to just frolic around and disregard any kind of changing directions or any kind of direction at all 😆 On the plus side, we hustled around quite a bit and by the end we had a tired, very still pony 😴😴

Just so proud of this guy! Super good again today 🥰 very relaxed, and not sticky at all. But boy is he lazy in that canter 🤣 I bet Mallory Michele Long and I both squeeled in excitement when he finally yawned 3-4 times in a row. I bet Doc didn’t blink or let out a deep breath the first week lol.

Apollo says “ alright alright alright… I get it… bad ponies go to pony boot camp” 😆 he was a good pony today! he remembered the groundwork skills he learned yesterday (backing, yielding the hindquarters) and he rode like a good boy! Katelyn Martin fits him well I feel like! 🤓

It was ☀️ time! Got a solid work out in. did some round pen work so he remembered me cause it’s been a hot minute lol. Did some of our basic work, but also worked at picking up his feet and him being sprayed off for the first time 👀 I’d say he did pretty dang good! #Sunshine #AQHA #stallion
