A little behind on posting but we had a good weekend at Central Kentucky Masters Test. Since the red dog Rocky isn’t available anymore ole Skye said she’d come off the couch to run in his place. Following suit Cash decided to copy Skye and picked up a Master Ribbon! Awesome job Cash and Skye!

Loaded up and heading to run and work CKRC. It’s just not the same when that little red dog is not on the truck!! Missing him pretty bad today. Fortunately for us and her Skye is sitting in the back seat and she’s ready to run!!

Over the years Timber Ridge Retrievers hasn’t been good about much of a social media presence. We’ve decided to catch up with the times and keep our followers and clients updated on the happenings at Timber Ridge Retrievers.
That being said today is a meet the trainer segment. My name is Kirby Stevens and I’ve been training professionally for just over 20 years with the first 12 years splitting time training the dogs and being a maintenance manager for Gibbs Die Casting. In that time there’s been several dogs come through obtaining HRCH titles and several MH titles. Beyond the titles there has been several outstanding hunting dogs trained here as well as just your everyday well mannered pet.
In the early years I wasn’t really interested in the grand and master national game, other than my personal dogs, and focused more on the weekend tests and producing good hunting retrievers. Leave it to a little red dog that came along, Rocky, that changed my desire for those events. My kids are now grown, with one college age and the other in high school, and I can focus more on the travel needed to get those Grand and Master National passes.
My passion is these retrievers and I couldn’t imagine another career. I’m blessed to have the dogs we have at the facility but always welcome new clients to achieve whatever goal they may have. I believe in working at the dog’s pace, not the clients pace and providing the most obedient, solid retriever the dog is capable of being.

Huge shout out to this young lady and her dog Lucy.
Lucy wasn’t one of those dogs that everything came easy for. In fact she was a dog that taught me to think outside the box and find what worked for her. It took us a little bit longer to get there but this past weekend Lucy earned her HRCH title.
She definitely earned it, she passed a test where only 4 out of 17 dogs passed.
congratulations Larry Taylor, and I want to greatly thank you for sticking with me to get this accomplished. You never lost faith in me or Lucy.
Lucy had some bad luck along the way but with some perseverance we made it.
Go enjoy your life Lucy, it’s well deserved.

Coal is experiencing a couple of hiccups while learning how to hunt but he’s starting to figure it out.
Looks like he’s off to a pretty good start.

Next year we’ll work on teaching Hunter to run Coal and dad will get to sit back and watch.
