Maisey and Loki wanted to let you know that we are gauging interest in our Adventures Around Town class for another session in October. This class works on training out in the real world when situations pop up while also experiencing some lovely adventures on top of it.

With these hot temperatures we are experiencing, now is a great time to talk about the dangers of heat stroke and what to do if you think your dog is experiencing heat stroke.

The most common signs you will notice are going to be:
•heavy panting/excessive drooling
•vomitting or diarrhea
•change in the color of their gums or tongue
In severe cases, you will see:
•confusion/unconsciousness
•staggering or collapse

If you think your dog is experiencing any of these symptoms, move them to a cool ventilated area. Make sure to lower their body temperature SLOWLY with cool water (not cold) on their feet and inside their legs, and call your vet and get them seen immediately.

If you are doing anything outside with your dogs, make sure they have access to a shady area and a fresh source of water. Keep exercise short or offer lots of breaks in between.

Care of weekend boarding dogs includes but is not limited to feeding, potty breaks, managing playtime 5-10 dogs per group and cleaning tasks. With the possibility of moving up to Daycare / Day Training, Board & Trains, Classes & Private Lessons.

Split shifts of morning and evening, 10-15 hours per weekend. $14+ based on experience.

We are looking for a motivated individual who is enthusiastic about dogs and excited to come to work! Must have excellent communication skills and a positive attitude.

Did you hear? We still have open slots for our CGC prep class! CGC is canine good citizenship test. It shows that your dog is well mannered and behaved! Plus who does not wanna say their pup is a certified good boy or girl? Come join us in our CGC prep class to finish mastering those good pup skills, and show off they are a good citizen! Class starts August 7th at 6:30 p.m. Rory says it’s a great class and great skills!

Just putting this out there, dog is not affiliated with The Modern K9; Morgan's dad's friend currently has the dog and we are just helping look for a home or rescue.

Male husky (maybe mix?) taken from a bad situation, looking for a new home. Takes a bit to warm up to new people but is super sweet after gaining trust. A few months old. Dog has no vaccinations so needs a vet check up and vaccines.

Starting August 7th at 6:30 pm we will have class so you can put your final touches on your training to pass the 10 test items! And on week 6 you get to test and earn your ribbon and new title!

We are planning on an Adventure class! This class will be a spring time and summer time class! This class will offer some real life training out on trails and nature parks. We are planning for Friday nights to have a fun adventure class before the weekend.

Did you know that a sniff walk can tire our dogs out more than a game of fetch?

With hot and humid weather, it makes it difficult to walk our dogs. But going to a park and allowing them to sniff and follow wherever their nose takes them.

Sniffing is a great way to tire our dogs out. Allowing our dogs to sniff gives them information about the environment, helps release calming hormones, and works their brains.

If getting to a park isn't an option, you can always scatter food outside in your front or back yard to provide sniffing opportunities.

Starting August 8th at 7:30 we will have an Intro to Scentwork class!

Scentwork, also known as Nosework, is a sport/activity that teaches our dogs to locate and indicate on specific odors (in this class we will focus on Birch, Anise, Clove and Cypress) there is NO age or activity limit, as long as your dog loves to sniff they will love this class!

We invite you to come down to River West Park in Rochester, June 29-June 30 to check out our staff and their dogs compete in an UpDog Competition! Morgan, Maddie, Ren, and Faith will all be playing and would love to see you!

UpDog is a disc venue that is welcoming to all skill levels and dogs, they have games that provide a challenge but are fun for both human and the dog!

We do ask that since this is a disc competition and there will be a lot of dogs that you leave your dog at home.

The fourth of July is only 2 weeks away. Now is the time to reach out to our vets to get emergency medications on board.

The imagine below shows advice and tips that we ourselves at the Modern K9 follow!

Some other tips are to make sure our dog's collar identification tags are up to date with current phone numbers or addresses. As well as making sure our dogs' collars are properly fitted and can only fit two fingers underneath so they can not be slipped off.

Today in celebration of national cappuccino day, all the dogs got pupuccinos!

Our daycare dogs are demonstrating that it is possible to relax on a bed after a crazy fun playtime with their friends! Our goal is to have dogs be able to relax and workout on the treadmill without having to be tethered! Everyone today is demonstrating the skills we work to achieve!

Toys and treats together?? Yes please!! Now that summer is over and everyone is back to school, we are often asked about ways to keep pets busy while they are home alone. If you have a pet that loves food, one of our favorites is - food and puzzle toys! Not only are they good ways to prolong feeding time, it keeps them occupied to decrease anxiety/destructive behavior, ease exits from the house, and help with weight management. - Classic Kong (fill with treats or peanut butter/low fat yogurt and freeze) - Kong Wobbler - Magic Mushroom - Snuffles (you hide treats in the fabric and dogs have to sniff around to find them) We will be offering 15% off all food puzzles for the month of November!

After Jimma decided multiple times that it was fun to sneak out of the house and play the “can’t catch me” game with her mom, we discussed the best training option for them and settled on E-Collar training to build her off leash reliability. Jimma has been training on the ecollar for a month now and is eagerly coming when called, walking nicely at my side and holding a sit/down stay when asked! She has also worked her way from dragging a 30ft long line to a 10ft line! Stay tuned to see how Jimma progresses over the summer!
