Blitz is now the 2021 USCA Northeast Regional Schutzhund Vice Champion!!

“Trust your dog, he won’t quit”.

This last weekend, I took a leap of faith and traveled to Pittsburgh, PA for the USCA Northeast Regional Championships. I knew we weren’t totally prepared due to a significant lack of pre-trial preparation but I figured we had nothing to lose, so why not. My dog showed up to work this weekend and words can’t describe how proud I am of his accomplishments. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - Blitz is the most honest and resilient friend I’ll ever know. We competed against some pretty incredible teams in the Northeast Region (NY, NJ, PA, VA, WV, MD, & DE) and ultimately walked away with the “2nd place Northeast Regional Vice Champion” and “Highest Scoring Breed Surveyed Dog” trophies.

This event was extremely well organized and I’m immensely appreciative of all the hard work that went into making this trial happen. C**t Dickson and Steve Liggens demonstrated power and presence, and I especially appreciate both of you showing up to put in the work.

Mark Saccoccio - you’ve put some serious work into this dog over the last year and brought us to the next level. You knew just how to put the right amount of confidence in my head during the moments I needed it most and I will forever be appreciative of your relentless hard work.

Above everything else, I’m extremely appreciative of all the camaraderie and support shown by the competitors in this trial. Everyone who stepped out onto the center line is extremely talented and I’m proud to have been out on the field with you.

Kristina, Ashley, & Matt - We absolutely would not have accomplished this without all of your selfless dedication, loyalty, and sacrifice over these last few years. You all know how much you guys mean to me.

Undoubtedly, I was most excited to get back home and show off our hardware to Team Blitz’s biggest fan, Isla. My girl has enthusiastically helped spot me in obedience and gone tracking with us COUNTLESS times over the last two years and I knew just how incredibly proud she would be of her best buddy. Special thanks to my mom for spending her weekend with Isla while we were off chasing a dream.

Blitz hasn’t just made me a better dog trainer, our journey together has made me a better person. I will forever be grateful for the places we’ve gone, the people we’ve met, and the life lessons we’ve learned.

Our puppies have genetically good nerve strength and we strive towards producing social, outgoing temperaments. But!! (and I cannot stress this enough) Socialization does NOT mean making your puppy a petting zoo❗️So many well-intentioned people these days create SO MUCH conflict and insecurity in their puppies by bringing them into crowded environments and allowing strangers to mob them. We want puppies to go everywhere, see everything, and hear everyone - but the goal of socialization is to teach them to remain neutral towards strangers and maintain focus on their owners in a variety of different environments. For perspective - Would a parent ever allow strangers to walk up to their young child and start putting their hands all over them, even if they were just genuinely being nice and only wanted to say hi? NO WAY. Kids subjected to that would likely start showing major anxiety and stress behaviors within just a few social interactions. Friendly reminder - Keep the same standards for your dogs and create positive experiences during critical development periods 💯

7 weeks old today! These little mischief machines are getting into everything at this age and they’ve gotten pretty good at keeping us on our toes. These outgoing and social temperaments are everything we hoped for, I couldn’t be happier. This weekend is their individual temperament evaluation, next week we have our vet visit, and then pups are ready to go home with their new families.

Our A-litter is now six weeks old 🤩

These puppies can likely do it all 💯 They’re showing us a lot of confidence, quick startle recovery, good handler engagement, an abundance of food drive, and environmental stability. Pups have the genetics to be highly trainable so while competitive sports are entirely possible, placing them in good family homes is our top priority. Puppies are already showing a willingness to stay clean (they’re litter trained!) which will be really important when they begin crate training and go to their new homes.

Puppies are European workingline German Shepherds - Sire is a direct import from Slovakia, dam is domestically bred out of imported sire from Austria.

They change so much every day 🥰 Puppies now have an outdoor kennel setup with new toys and lots of excitement to keep them busy throughout the daytime hours.

Also want to make mention that our puppies 🐶 are on day 5️⃣ of litter training and they have already exceeded our expectations!

We always get a million questions ❓ from people on what this actually means and I think the first assumption people make is that we are promoting them to use the bathroom inside the house for the rest of their lives. This is NOT accurate, our puppies are not cats 😂 We *do* use the litter box when they’re with us to serve a very important purpose by tapping into laws of association. We want clean 🧼 puppies who don’t use the bathroom where they sleep and are offended by soiled bedding. At the right developmental timing we use the pups natural instincts to encourage them to stay clean where they sleep which will get them off to a good start for when they go to their new homes and begin crate training 🤩. We’ll also send our puppies home with some pine pellets 🌲 and have their new owners spread them in the grass where they want them to use the bathroom. This will make potty breaks and the overall transition for those first few weeks way easier for not only the puppies but puppy owners. This system also keeps our whelping area SO much cleaner and way more simple to maintain. Which, when there’s six of them on the move for the next four weeks, is arguably a strong perk 🥴

Our A-litter babies have been doing awesome and it’s so amazing to already see their little personalities start to come out within the last five days! Blue collar is the male and everyone else is female.

Welcome to the world Cave Canem A-litter!! SIX puppies!! Zena ended up taking a ten hour break and delivered #8 at midnight - unfortunately #6 and #7 two solid black boys were both stillborn and after exhausting all efforts, didn’t make it .:. Final headcount on babies are 5 females (three solid black, two bicolor) and 1 male (bicolor)!! Mom and babies are doing super 🥰
