Well the Club put on quite a Seminar this past weekend in Ontario County Park, high up on Gannett Hill, Naples NY. We were fortunate to have a wonderful Lodge to gather in and get out of the cold wind and occasional rain on Saturday - but the weather was great (for tracking!) on Sunday with light overcast, a little dampness, light wind and moderate temperatures.

We had 20 participants on Saturday; 15 for beginning TD (Tracking Dog) level and 5 at Advanced TDX level. On Sunday we had 12 and 6 respectively.

The dogs and handlers all did great work and stayed in the game even if the weather was a little challenging at times. From the first exercises on Saturday morning to the last tracks run on Sunday afternoon we were all pretty impressed by the progress made and abilities gained by the teams.

Speaking of teams....It was a huge team effort to put this event on successfully. Ruth Vaughan prepared the printed guides and tracking articles, and did the organizing and planning of the exercises and designed the layout of the tracks in the Park - and then the DOTCORNY team took over. Big thanks to Steve and Terri Mingus for being there both days independently teaching both levels, laying tracks, coaching - they even had a little time to run their own dogs on some of the tracks. Dr. Kathy Hughes came from Ithaca again this year and was a one woman Advanced handler instructor, track layer, coach, flag bearer.

More help was needed at the last minute.. so Holly Stiner stepped in with bringing the hospitality gear; Kim Hahn brought boxes of delicious hot coffee, and Marion Heise stepped up and pulled all the rest of the hospitality together in great style. On Sunday Pat Roach helped organize and run the final exercise of introducing the full length TD track to the 12 more novice handlers - on top of running her own young dog Rory who was a natural at tracking! Many others over the weekend offered help whenever they could and the whole group, both levels, all shared and worked together beautifully.

What great tracking seminar !! Thank you Ruth, Terri, Steve, and Kathy. You rocked.
Wonderful first experience for Rory and great to watch the dogs go from "what are we doing?" to "I got this!" in a two days.
