I use a Large Soft Drink cup from a fast food place over angry gecko faces to prevent loss of my fingers!

This is a warning, if you don't recognize it. Full throat....It means "If you put your hand in here, you may pull back a bloody stump!" 😅🤣

Ruslan and Katja are Russian Rat Snakes, Elaphe schrenckii, a highly underrated species of snake in the reptile hobby! Katja may look like a somewhat drab, brown rat snake for now, but with time, she will blossom into a dark beauty similar to Ruslan. Saddles of ink with strokes of gold will adorn her robust 1.5 - nearly 2 meter length as an adult. When Katja and Ruslan look at me, they seem to really SEE me, the same way my Drymarchon and other Rat Snakes regard me. Their intelligence and curiousity are so endearing, and in the short time I've had them, it's possible they're my new favourite species!

I adore oddball species, and Zamenis scalaris, the Ladder Rat Snake, is definitely amongst them! This little guy is a spicy peanut, he nipped me four times in rapid succession before he realized I wasn't going to eat him and calmed down. This specimen hails from Spain, as opposed to the more commonly seen individuals from France, and the markings are very different! They don't grow very large, either! I'm excited to be working with this uncommon species!

Dame Isis has grown into such an amazing beauty! Spalerosophis atriceps begin life as rather unremarkable greyish-brown rat snakes. As they age, they slowly become more golden and their heads darken and blush a deep black-red with a rainbow-iridescent sheen!
