Joey wants to thank our donors!! He received the news today that he is FINALLY negative for microfilaria in his heartworm test!! Heartworm treatment is brutal for pups and costly for rescues - about $1000 for the complete treatment, and we have been treating THREE DOGS in our rescue. Your donations have helped tremendously!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! 🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏

Hi, my name is Koda and I'm currently in a foster home through Garlan Henry Britton Animal Sanctuary. A few months ago I was days away from being euthanized at a crowded shelter in Southern Illinois. Garlan Henry Britton Animal Sanctuary saved my life. However after going to see the Veterinarian it was determined that I have Heartworm disease, which is very deadly if left untreated. Garlan Henry Britton Animal Sanctuary is now overseeing my Heartworm treatment ON TOP OF the Heartworm treatment of 2 other dogs who have been adopted from them, Joey and Rue. I want to say THANK YOU to those who have donated to Garlan Henry Britton Animal Sanctuary. It's because of you that I, and my fellow canine friends who were saved by this rescue, can recover from this horrible disease and live a happy healthy life! God bless you and Merry Christmas!! ❤️

Spaying/neutering doesn't just prevent unwanted litters – it can significantly change your pet's behavior! 🐾

Common changes include:
- Reduced aggression towards other animals
- Less territorial marking
- Decreased roaming and escape attempts
- Elimination of heat-related behaviors
- Often, a calmer and more affectionate demeanor

These changes can lead to a happier pet and a more harmonious household. 🏠❤️

Welcome Tashi to the Sanctuary! Tashi is coming to us through a wonderful organization from a Missouri resident who unfortunately was taken by ambulance to the hospital recently and wasn't able to return home. We already have a Vet & grooming appointment scheduled for Tashi and we already have a few interested families wanting to make her a member of their family. Please take a look at the video in the comments. This girl is so fun to watch as she bounds around our yard and chsses balls 🥰

Our little rescue isn't going to stop trying to save as many animals as possible. But we need your help. We pulled Zanna and 3 other dogs from a breeder this past summer and the Veterinary bills that were to follow to get them to a healthy point were in the THOUSANDS. With some donations and out of pocket payments, all dogs are healthy - including getting golf ball size stones out of Zanna's bladder- and all are now in EXCELLENT homes and no longer living in cages being used for breeding. This on top of helping past adopters with dogs that they adopted from the south who came here with "negative " heartworm tests, only to find out when they took their dogs to their first Vet visit that the test done in Arkansas was likely a false negative. So now we're covering the costs of heartworm treatments at around $1000 each. Our little rescue could use your help on this Giving Tuesday !!! 🙏 IF YOU WOULD RATHER DONATE via Venmo, Cash App, PayPal, or mail we can provide you our information in order to do that by request.

My name is Crumpets and I would really like a quiet home. I'm shy but I'm very sweet. Isn't there someone out there with the same personality who wants to be my forever person?

I have been with the Sanctuary for close to a year. I am very shy, but I would love to find a patient human and household who will give me the time I need to feel comfortable. I don't really like to be picked up, but once I feel comfortable with you, I will accept all of the pets that you can give. I'm scared of rambunctious dogs, and any cats would have to be laid back and accepting of me. Please comment below or send my people a message to request an application? I promise I'm a really good girl!!

TRIGGER STACKING – WHEN BEHAVIOUR HAPPENS “OUT OF THE BLUE”

We’ve all had those days when nothing seems to go right and one frustrating thing after another happens to us, leaving us feeling wound up, stressed and ready to explode at the next unsuspecting person who dares to ask us something.

This “unsuspecting” person may think we have a serious behaviour problem or need anger management therapy, when the truth is that we’ve just had a really bad day or even a few bad days and don’t usually behave like this at all.

Dogs are no different and a behaviour that seems completely out of character or happens “out of the blue” is often caused by “trigger stacking”.

A trigger may be anything that increases a dog’s stress levels and has a negative impact on their emotional, mental or physical state.

These may be small things that we may not even notice or seem insignificant to us, but they are all adding to an increasing “stack” of events that may culminate in out of character behaviour.

When stress levels reach a certain point, the next stressful event, however small, may cause an explosive reaction that is completely unexpected.

Instead of just focusing on a particular behaviour and seeing it as a problem that needs to be prevented, take a step backwards, look at the bigger picture, look at events, circumstances or environmental factors that may have played a role leading up to that behaviour.

Being aware of potential stressors and allowing your dog time to decompress, relax and unwind for a few days will often mean the difference between “normal behaviour” and a behaviour that seems completely out of character.
