We ended up choosing Hazel instead of Florence- "Flo" for this sweet girl that we pulled from Amish country in Ohio where along with other dogs, she was dumped (Amish often do this when they can't sell dogs, when they get older, etc). Hazel came away with some nasty lacerations to her face, something attacked her pretty badly. Thankfully she's healing from that and it hasn't changed her heart towards ALL humans and other dogs. Yesterday Hazel met her new family including a new Canine sister named Cricket. The meet and greet went amazingly well, one of my easiest meet and greets! Today Hazel went to her forever home and by all the pictures I'm receiving, it's easy to see that Hazel chose this family. My heart is full 💓 More pictures to come, but we thought this picture perfectly captured Hazel's "I'm finally home" face ❤️❤️❤️

I cannot tell you how many clients just want to know what to do in a reaction.💥
That in itself doesn't really help reactivity ‼️For those that are struggling....I get it.
You aren't alone, though it certainly feels that way when your dog is barking, screeching, lunging and nothing helps in that moment, (always weird to spell lunging)
There IS a way forward, it isn't hopeless, it isn't particularly easy...but you CAN do it.
We need to be PROactive rather than reactive ourselves.
Start to change your reactive journey from just dealing with your dogs reactions to looking at ways to limit (or stop the vast majority of them) from occurring.

THAT should be the goal....NOT reacting to their own reaction.
Lots of videos in the comments to look at if you want to look at a different way to help your reactive dog, if you are just stuck or new to reactivity.
Hang in there, you can help change EVERYTHING.

🐈🐈‍⬛🐈🐈‍⬛🐈🐈‍⬛🐈🐈‍⬛ Hello everyone! We need to let everyone know that unfortunately we can longer take cats into our rescue. We try time and time again to find cat fosters, but with so many adult cats not getting adopted and irresponsible pet owners handing out unaltered kittens, cat adoptions are few and far between and we ourselves cannot foster cats due to allergy and breathing issues. We are more than happy to share posts of cats who owners are needing to find homes for, but please, if at all possible, be willing to foster the cats until a home can be found. We may be able to help cover spay / neuter for your cat / kitten IF funds are available. We apologize that we cannot help any more than this. AND TO EVERYONE, PLEASE SPAY AND NEUTER YOUR PETS!!

All recent Adopters and new dog parents please read 🙏

For everyone that has welcomed a new family member or are helping out your local rescue at this time of year.....
Too much too soon WILL cause issues.
It is a really common occurrence with newly adopted dogs.
Congratulations on your new dog.
I know you want to take them to the beach, the pet store and your café....however can I ask for a few minutes so I can explain just what your dog has gone through.....and why you need to take the next few weeks SLOW.
Your new dog has had it's whole world turned upside down.
They don't know you.
They don't know if they can trust you.
They don't know if they are with you for an hour or forever.
They may have been in various scary places.
Other houses, rescues, the pound and likely ALL of these in the past few days or weeks.
Your dog has stress hormones surging through their brain, they are STRESSED....they need to decompress, they need STABILITY in their environment and from you.
They need time with you and their new environment.
They need to know that the tree outside may rustle against the house and that's OK.
They need to know that those normal creaky noises in your house are OK and that at 3.45 the neighbours bang their door shut.
They need to know when it rains that tapping sound is OK.
They need to know that when the door opens they won't be moved somewhere else again.
They need to trust that YOU are safe even when you have had a bad day, you will still give them food and that they can close their eyes around you.
You know what your good intentions are with your new dog, your dog however has NO idea what is happening.....only that everything has changed and it is scary.
They do NOT need other new environments yet. Take it SLOW.
Dogs that have just been adopted need TIME. There is no need to rush out the next day and take them to all the places you want to go with them.....They need the opposite.
Let them decompress, let them inspect a new area of your house or yard every day or two. Walk them up and down outside your house for a few days (and only there), let them sniff, and sniff some more. Let them p*e freely.....it may be boring for you, but not for your dog. They need to know what is happening around them and they learn that through their nose, eyes and ears.
They NEED this.
They need to learn to TRUST you.
The long walks can wait, the café will still be there in a few weeks and you can visit the pet shop alone until they are ready.
Your bond together is the MOST important thing to concentrate on right now.
You will never regret taking it slow and it can save your dog and yourself from making the very same mistakes that can lead to people rehoming in the first place.
All the very best with your new dog.

Koda, who is in a foster home through our rescue, is also going through heartworm treatment. We could not ask for a better foster for this handsome boy. We could not help this sweet animals without the help of our donors and our solid fosters and adopters. If this includes you, THANK YOU!! 💗

Joey wants to thank our donors!! He received the news today that he is FINALLY negative for microfilaria in his heartworm test!! Heartworm treatment is brutal for pups and costly for rescues - about $1000 for the complete treatment, and we have been treating THREE DOGS in our rescue. Your donations have helped tremendously!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! 🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏

Hi, my name is Koda and I'm currently in a foster home through Garlan Henry Britton Animal Sanctuary. A few months ago I was days away from being euthanized at a crowded shelter in Southern Illinois. Garlan Henry Britton Animal Sanctuary saved my life. However after going to see the Veterinarian it was determined that I have Heartworm disease, which is very deadly if left untreated. Garlan Henry Britton Animal Sanctuary is now overseeing my Heartworm treatment ON TOP OF the Heartworm treatment of 2 other dogs who have been adopted from them, Joey and Rue. I want to say THANK YOU to those who have donated to Garlan Henry Britton Animal Sanctuary. It's because of you that I, and my fellow canine friends who were saved by this rescue, can recover from this horrible disease and live a happy healthy life! God bless you and Merry Christmas!! ❤️
