Proud of our very own, Dr. Vince Collison!
Getting to Know Your AETA 2025 Board of Directors β¨π§¬
As we prepare to say goodbye to our 2025 BOD at , letβs meet the incredible people who made 2025 such a memorable year! Next up: Vincent Collison
Q: What is your name, position with AETA, and your professional job?
A: My name is Vincent Collison, DVM, and this is my first year as an AETA director. Outside of AETA, Iβm a veterinarian at Collison Embryo & Veterinary Services. Iβm based out of Rockwell City, Iowa.
Q: How and when did you first get involved with AETA?
A: I attended my first AETA convention in Madison, Wisconsin, in 1990 as I was getting involved in bovine embryo transfer. I've missed very few conventions since then, and became AETA-Certified at the 2003 Annual Convention in Calgary.
Q: Who taught you the most about embryo transfer?
A: The American Association of Bovine Practitioners (AABP) Edwin Robertson Beginning Embryo Transfer workshop, taught by Dr. Edwin Robertson, was probably the most helpful. As I was getting started, Diane Broek also showed me some things about freezing embryos that were very helpful. I shadowed Dr. Jim West for a day early in my career and gained valuable insights that would have taken years to learn. Dr. John Halser was also always willing to answer any questions I had when problems arose.
Q: Where do you see the embryo transfer industry heading in the next 10 years?
A: The most successful producers will continue to expand their use of embryo transfer, using ET over artificial insemination to propagate the most elite genetics in the herd. IVF will continue to be the predominant method to produce embryos in volume, and there will be increased specialization among practitioners. I feel companies that provide IVF will increase their focus on the lab production of IVF embryos and work more with practitioners outside of their company for o**m pick-up and transfer of embryos.
Q: What advice would you give to someone just starting their career in embryo transfer?
A: Attend the AETA Annual Convention. They provide an abundance of cutting-edge information, and are also a great place to talk to vendors and build a network with other practitioners. I also believe that working with a mentor will really accelerate the learning curve.
Thank you, Vincent, for your dedication to AETA and dynamic leadership! π
