"The world is only a scary place, IF ya let it scare ya".

Nearly everyone who has ever trained with me has heard me make the joke about "the forklift at Lowe's" and how to time your praise to positive mark so that environmental stimuli is well... Positive.

Tala and I are gonna be doing things in grander measure than most folks.
A forklift just wouldn't suffice. 😉🤣
Today's socialization and proofing included exposure to Uncle Jerry "Miyagi"... firing up his excavator... while giving us a sneak peak at what's going to become his training grounds.

Today was a Good Day.

Summer Check-In: "Minnie & Tilly: Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" Edition.

Some dogs you just look at them and you hear, "Bad to the Bone" in your head when they strut past you... Dobie's, German Shep's, Rottie's...

These two... I hear a Girl Power, Pop Princess anthem.
They're like if Taylor and Sabrina got together for a duo, if Brittany and Christina went on tour with the Spice Girls in '92!!!
Cuteness Overload, Smiles from Ear to Ear and a chorus of "Aaaaaawwwwwwww" follow these girls at all their Puppy Party and Social sware's whether they're at the Dojo or their Mom's are hanging out.

Thats right, while these kids just ooooze Sister Love they're not actually pack mates.
They're best pals that happened to meet at The Dojo.
Slumber Parties on the couch.
Selfie's.
Backyard Romps.
Their friendship isn't limited to The Dojo's weekend get togethers and is such a tremendous thing for me to see our Community extend beyond the Dojo's physical location.

Born within a few days of each other, they and their parents also both found their way into The Dojo within days of each other.
The Universe truly smiled on my Lil' Doggy Dojo Community when I got to meet and greet both these kids as 8 week old puppies in the same week.

Getting to observe and hover over their toddler and elementary phases of puppyhood simultaneously and in conjunction with the two families has been a brilliant experience for me as both a trainer and a human.

Love Ya' Ladies!!!

Alumni Check-In!!

Love those Alumni Check-In's.
I dont get to post everyone that comes across my phone, but they all make me smile.

Kyra's Mom, Shelley, and Sharon Harmony go back to childhood friends.
That makes her like an Officially Unofficial Niece in our world. She's also a Dojo Alumni so THAT makes her like a niece in our world too.

Her current hobbies include looking majestic while cruising around in the VW Beetle with Mom and laying low with paws in the sand at the beach.

Get out there and have some , just make sure to get us some pics too!

I recently posted a pic of Tala's first day of "Work" at The Dojo, greeting friends and members for Social.

Well, if that was her first day of work, this is her first day of "School".

Just like I loving calling Judahs Dad Chris, "Sensei Chris", I often refer to my friend Jerry as "Mr. Miyagi".

Tala made the trip up to Germantown the other day to meet Uncle Miyagi.

Welcome to your first day of work, Kiddo.

Tala, the newest staff member at The Doggy Dojo, and her buddy Dozer were hanging out in reception with Sharon Harmony when they got to greet Trish and Moose for their Distraction Class and Social today.

Now, Tala's life isn't going to be "all Train and no Play", far from it in fact. I'm gonna make sure she has a puppyhood just like any other puppy, full of treats and love and tug... lot's of phriggen TUG considering her genes and heritage.
It's just she's also gonna get to attend 6 Puppy Parties and 2 Distraction classes every weekend as my sidekick, someday... after puppyhood.

Alumni Check-In: Summer Edition

Emma and her Mom, Lisa, threw us a check-in today from The Beach.
This picture is such a triumph for the two of them. When we first met, Emma was a skittish little girl fresh out of the Rescue Life. Likewise, Lisa being a passionate and compassionate person, she was unbelievably concerned about making sure she was "doing the right thing" for Emma. Having just fallen head over heels for Emma, her emotional investment in making sure they were gonna have the brightest future together possible, was both spectacular and profound.
They were both a bundle of nerves. The thing about nervous energy is that it's like a snowball rolling down a mountain. The bigger it gets, the faster it goes. The faster it goes, the bigger it gets until there's an avalanche.

The two of 'em needed some reassurance.
Emma needed to know she could trust Lisa and Lisa needed to learn how to communicate to Emma, "I got your back, Girl", in dog language.

Fast forward a few months, some home visits out to their place, a bunch of leash and confidence sessions at The Dojo.... and Socialization... I'm pretty sure they had a perfect attendance record at Professor Mike's Weekend Puppy Party's and Distraction Classes... and we're off-leash and living "that Best Dog Life".

All My Love, Ladies.

Get out there and make some memories and have some ... just make sure to get us some pics.

We will be taking tmrw evening off from our new Pack Walk event.

Sharon Harmony and I are both bummed.

The combination of the heat, the pavement temperatures, the possibility of heatstroke or even bloat...
No training or social event is worth risking a Vet trip for your pup or an ER visit for yourself or human loved ones.

Stay Home, Stay Cool.

It was generated by some folks in the Boxer community. Because dogs "air-cool" through respiration, Boxers and their stubby snouts are particularly susceptible to it. Diligent Boxer parents usually end up experts in watching for the warning signs.

The Dad's are serious about getting their personal time in this weekend.
In an odd twist of karma and the Universe, all the players at Social this week were ladies, both Hooman and Doggo?!
So, Fathers Day morphed into Ladies Night...

Like Cyndi Lauper said, "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun", so we decided to put the leashes away and let the ladies play.

They turned Chico's Gym into a She-Shed?!?!

Wednesday Evening Pack Walk!

We're getting the hang of this.
On only our second excursion into the Pistol Creek park, we've developed a few favorite spots to take pit stop breaks to give the dogs and the humans a break, and quite a few more to improv and integrate Distraction and Impulse Control drills into the event.

Sharon Harmony is going to be taking lead on directing and steering the parade in the coming weeks when it goes live and becomes our first a la carte event.
Cost will be twenty dollars per family and can be paid by credit or debit card when you rsvp through a scheduler.

These are gonna be some of our most fun .

It's been a minute since I've posted any videos from actual coaching and training sessions.

In proud of these two right here.
Our girl Abygail is a little superstar. She presented, at first, as a little Tazmanian Devil. Her energy was not just overwhelming, it was overwhelming her new family too. After spending most of her pre-rescue life on a tie out... who could blame her for having a rambunctious streak. 😉
Her family has been tremendous throughout their Intro and Intermediate programs. Their Growth together has been inspirational.

Tonight they learned a little about off leash commandabiliy using an old exercise they mastered on leash a couple of weeks ago, this time dropping the leash for the first time and flying solo.

The community videos of Social and Distraction and now the Pack Walks are just so social media ready, and so special to me, that I've been highlighting them... but I had to get this one in.

I'm proud of this family, they're all gonna have one heck of life together.
