It’s about to get that COLD COLD next week and it’s time to make sure we’re prepared.
•Wrapping your coops and adding extra straw or shavings to your coops and runs will help immensely.
•Pull all extra water from coops & runs at night to prevent built up moisture in order to avoid frostbite on combs, wattles, and feet.
•Feed corn & red pepper flakes an hour before sundown to help keep that internal body temp up in the birds overnight.
•Add spices & herbs to waters to increase body temp, health, & immunity as the temp drop has the potential to create a stressful environment for your poultry, leaving them susceptible to illness.
So far it’s looking like we have the potential to see single digits in the coming weeks with the Arctic air push into our region & surrounding states.
As we all know these predictions can always be a bust, but it is better to be prepared and ready vs scrambling at the last minute.
Happy New Year!
