Our hearts are always with our sweet animals at the Washington County Animal Shelter, but we also love all of the animals in our community and surrounding communities. With that being said, we are having a DOG HOUSE DONATION DRIVE. So many individuals love their pets, and they try their hardest to take proper care of their pet, but sometimes unexpected events arise that can put a financial strain on these loving pet owners. One of most important items (especially in the winter) is a good dog house, unfortunately dog houses can be expensive, and they don’t last forever. If you happen to have a gently used dog house that you no longer need, and would like to donate it, then please send us a Facebook message, or you can drop it off at the front entrance of the Washington County Animal Shelter (718 Landfill Road, Roper NC). If you are in a situation that you are in NEED of a gently used dog house, please reach out via Facebook messenger. We will distribute the dog houses on a first come, first serve basis. There will be a limit of two dog houses per household, then you will need to register again to be put on the list for additional dog houses. We are hoping to start distributing the dog houses in the middle of December. This is a win/win program, for the person that donates the dog house, and the owner of the dog that receives the dog house. When it is cold and rainy, the person that donated the dog house realizes what a huge impact they made in a dog’s life, and the dog owner that receives the dog house can rest easier knowing that his loved dog is out of the wind and rain. We hope to keep this program going until February, but it will all depend on how successful we are in receiving donated dog houses.

👀 Are you interested in making a difference in the life of an animal? If so, the Washington County Animal Shelter is in the process of reopening and also revamping our volunteer program, now that the wonderful renovations at the shelter are complete. Please follow our page or the Friends of Washington County North Carolina Animal Shelter page for upcoming information on how you can make a difference. As a volunteer, you will not be responsible for every aspect of care for the animals. All you have to do is bring your passion, from decorating a truck for the animal shelter for parades, walking dogs, deep cleaning different areas of the shelter, onsite laundry, baking dog treats, decorating the shelter to make it more home like, like I said - WE WILL APPRECIATE WHATEVER YOU HAVE TO OFFER! If you have previously attempted to contact the Washington County Animal Shelter to volunteer, please reach out to us again. We will post additional volunteer information later this week, stay tuned 👀

Thank you Brenda!

Another happy ending, here is a message we received updating us about this precious girl and her human. She was more than happy for us to share this on our page.

“I can’t believe it’s been almost 8 months since I adopted this precious little girl! So I wanted to share her update with everyone. She has proved herself a perfect fit into the family, we didn’t make her ours she made us hers! She loves running and playing outside , However she loves snuggling and laying around just as much. She is a fatty patty LOVES TO EAT even though she’s picky she loves treats, homemade meals, she don’t miss a meal or a snack, she enjoys snuggling, playing with her toys, attention she loves attention, she’s lovable and friendly especially with my almost 12 year old boxer Rocky they are the best of friends, although for some reason she’s scared of little boys, she’s not aggressive or anything towards them she runs to me and/or hides in her kennel, she is just terrified of small boys not sure why However she was almost 2 years old when I adopted her so I’m not sure what happened in that time. But she’s just perfect 💗 Everyone says she was lucky or blessed to find a home but honestly I’m the blessed lucky one to have her I needed her as much as she needed me!
Thank you again to all the volunteers at the shelter you’re truly amazing people! And to ANYONE wanting a furbaby PLEASE go to a shelter and adopt you WON’T regret it, it’s almost like they’re grateful for and to you for loving and giving them a home!! I have adopted puppies from shelters but never over 6 months old because I didn’t know their history, but after adopting my precious Luna I know now to pay attention to the older babies give them a chance, go visit them, walk them and get to know them, they are loyal and lovable! I’m sorry I rambled but after adopting Luna at almost 2 years old and having such a great experience, I wanted to get the word out about adopting older animals as well as update everyone on Luna. I’ll share some recent photos. Enjoy 🐾 💗🩵
