Layla has been with us a for a year or two now as well and has NO interest!

She is sweet, shy, and timidly friendly four-legged friend who runs outside every time someone new comes in to the shelter. We’re not sure how much she’s visible to possible future families but we would love for someone to come out and see her true colors. She’s best with older children and does not like other animals unfortunately but don’t let that stop you from saying hello. Once she realizes you’re a friend and not a foe? She’s a lovebug and will travel onto your lap for kisses and snuggles!

Unfortunately Bobbi Jo passed away in my arms of what I believe was a broken 💔 and of course two months of starvation. RIP sweet angel you are now back with your family. 🙏

Update on Bobbi Jo
I have high hopes for this little Warrior-fighter. It's been a day but she is making progress and certainly has the will to survive.

I have been able to get her to take 2cc of water and then a slushy food mixture about every 2 hours throughout the day including last night.

She took a couple of bites on her own this morning before crashing from exhaustion again. She is extremely weak but we are working on that thanks to Carrie Kopp for bringing by a few helpful items to help make Bobbi strong again, thanks Carrie.

And she received her own bed from my neighbor Sharron Stroud. Thanks Sharron, that made Bobbi feel special. She didn't want to have an accident on her new bed so she somehow got herself to the litter box and peed!!! Although it looks like she did a face plant into the litter in the process. She did get herself back over to the cat bed, so I'm truly impressed and grateful. We said a little prayer last night, looking for help from above. 🙏

Tonight when I went in to check on her and try more food, water and nutrients, she ate 1cc then decided to take a few bites on her own again. Yay!

Still can't stand on her own but after 2 months without any nutrients, I think it is to be expected.
She is trying to drink on her own but with her being so weak I can't risk her drowning in the bowl.

She is a fighter, Warrior style 🐾 🐾 ❤️ 🐾 🐾

Still need help with covering her vetting, so if you can help, we would appreciate it She will need further vet care such as labs, shots, possibly a feeding tube (but I am doing my best to avoid that)
Or more fluids.

Thank you again to our wonderful community ❤️ you guys have huge hearts for the fur babies. Prayers for her family too. So sad.

Please keep in mind our organization helps with shelters for our outdoor pets in need. We were able to help this family and their doggy with an insulated dog house that can be equipped with a heater.

We also helped a few of our feral kitties with cat shelters and a small dog house for a dry place to feed them.

We are planning to trap another stray from our town today. This unique kitty appeared recently near a neighbor that isn't all that fond of cats because they chase her birds. So imagine my surprise when she contacted us about this stray she wanted to help. This kitty could pass for a skunk with her distinct markings.

Judy had been trying to make friends with this "cat" making enough progress to get the kitty to trust her enough to come inside on her porch to eat. Still wasn't ready to be held but allowed Judy to pet her while she was inside. Unfortunately Judy was in a car accident a few weeks ago and hasn't been able to work with "cat" so she reached back out to us for help.

We have been feeding Sweetness and plan to try to trap her today to get her in to be spayed. Even have a spot in rescue if we can tame her. But all this takes time, resources and love. If anyone would like to step up to help try to tame this skunk looking kitty, please dm the page. She has a rescue organization that is willing to help if she is friendly enough.

These are just a few examples of what our organization does in our community. If you know of an animal out in the elements please reach out to us as we still have a few dog houses and straw available. However my crew is limited and I'm not supposed to be on my feet for a few more weeks so we may need your help to get these items to where they need to be.

ITS GIVING TUESDAY 🐾 🐾 ❤️ 🐾 🐾

Hello everyone. Sorry I haven't been keeping up on posts and what we have been up to lately. I have had some major health challenges while still being responsible for over 16 animals in and out of my direct care.

Some of you may have seen my post about needing to take some time off to deal with my health issues back in October. Well that was before I cut my right foot so badly that I had to remain off it for nearly 6 weeks and now my right ankle issues.

Just as I was able to start putting weight on the right foot, of course I had lots of chores to catch up on, I ended up injuring my left ankle/leg. I am now battling a skin infection and fractured ankle that swells every time I try to put weight on it.

So for Giving Tuesday I am asking for help with supplies for the dogs and cats in my care. I haven't been able to work much in the past 2 months so I'm struggling to provide everything these critters need.

If you would like to help or want to give to a local non profit for giving Tuesday then please help with a few of our needed supplies. Or you can donate towards these items and I can get them delivered where they need to go.

What a busy Friday for the Animal Warriors team.

Linda Weller took 2 dogs in to get spayed/neutered. One dog was 7 and had puppies in the past but never again. Plus the surgery will help her in her last years of life. Way to go Linda!

Meanwhile mom and I made 64 sandwiches to feed the staff at LaBest and Partners for pets who helped with Teddy and Sammy. Shout out to Martha Warren for supplying lunch. ❤️

LaBest took care of these beautiful boys while I was injured and unable to, while Partners for Pets took care of getting them neutered, as well as, getting Bear in for his wellness check.

Sammy and Teddy are doing great and Bear is still heartworm negative (thank goodness) up to date on his shots again and working on losing the extra 25 # he is carrying. We got this 🐻

Sunday Funday has gotten off to a rough start. 😥

Bogart got out of his house this morning around 4a, his mom looked for him but couldn't find him.

He unfortunately found his way into two large dogs yard and when they were let out to potty they spotted Bogart. Unfortunately the injuries were to severe and Bogart was humanely euthanized.

Thank you Jenna Schneider ❤ for doing all you could to save Bogart. Heartbreaking for sure but thank you for staying with him until his owners were located.

Wanted to share our mission from yesterday. My neighbors are animal lovers much like all of us so when Scott found this poor pup at his work in Washington Park he reached out to me for help.

With the dog being within Gateway Pet Guardians venue I reached out to my good friend Jill Henke who asked Sara C. to go check things out.

By the afternoon Sara had arrived and was able to grab this poor fella up to get him the help he needs.

Thank you Scott and Gateway Pet Guardians for being this dogs voice. Hopefully GPG will be able to get him healthy and into a new home.

It takes a village and I am happy to know we have such a strong team in our area

Now for the hard part of animal welfare and a perspective I hope folks will see and think about prior to making despairing comments.
These folks go through emotional roller coasters every day and some are particularly hard, like yesterday.

Its the day before the actual holiday but most offices were closed. Not Horseshoe Lake thank goodness. 🙏

We started out there at 830a to drop Walter off for his neuter surgery. That went off without a hitch and the words "snap test was negative " was a highlight for sure!

As I arrived i noticed a car and several folks in a panic to get their German shepard from the car inside to the hospital. I held one of the doors as all available staff was right there to get the dog inside. It was clear this was dire.

I could see everyone was busy and I was just picking Walter up so I told them i would be right back. I didn't know the gs or its family but I too shed a few tears for their beloved pet. Heartbreaking to watch for sure. I ran over to Walmart to grab a few sweat treats to bring back to the staff. I was told they had 7 pets coming in to be put to sleep for various reasons. I could see the sadness on Amy face as we talked and wanted to do sometging nice for thr staff.

As I returned with the treats and to get Walter, the family of the German shepard was coming out of the exam room visibly upset. Poor thing fought cancer but it was time. Everyone there including Dr Davidson were upset. Dr said she had been helping the family for some time trying to save their dog. She was clearly touched.

Bad part was we were one of the 7 they had yesterday as one of our volunteers that had to put down their 11 yr old beloved pet struggling with a huge tumor.

I also ran into another friend and partner at our village hall who was also their with their pet that had to be put to sleep. 😥

As i was leaving yhe staff were all standing by waiting for yet another emergency, a dog left out in the heat coming in with suspected heat stroke.

Great news on Walter and the perfect way for Dr Davidson to start her day. One that was filled with sorrow and difficult decisions being made by too many families and staff.

So let's start with the good. Walter is fiv negative!!! Does still have all his toes however he lost all but one nail. Not sure if the nails will grow back but it is possible the doctor says.

They clipped his one long nail so he wouldnt catch it on something. Ouch..this has already been pretty painful for him so we dont want that to happen.

He is unable to retrack that nail, not sure if he ever will, but we are going to continue to provide cold laser treatments to the area to try to help.

Walter is one of the lucky ones that had someone care enough to get him the help he desperately needed.

Thank you to Dr Hinrichs who initially saw Walter and is amazing at healing these horrific injuries we seem to bring to them at Horseshoe Lake Animal Hospital.

Dr Davidson did Walter neuter surgery and was so polite and helpful going over his injuries, the surgery and getting him vaccinated.

We truly appreciate your kindness and partnership to help those that cannot help themselves. 🐾 🐾 ❤ 🐾 🐾

Update on the homeless family we are trying to help.

I met with them today at 3pm. We have been able to extend their stay another 3 days, probably a couple more once a few folks sponsor another day for them, filled their nearly empty gas tank, provided them with 3 gc ($150 in total) for food at Aldi and Schnucks, and gave them a $50 gc to Applebee's.

Part of Applebee's gc was donated by the woodriver Applebee's ❤ and the two Schnucks gc were donated by a very nice lady (Dawn W.) The gas and additional days stay were covered by each of you that made a donation. We appreciate each comment. Referral and donation made.
