What a trip!
Me and 3 mustangs
Tassi, Gratzi, & Valie
Made the 30 hour trip to Southern Missouri all safe and sound and we’ve been settling in the past few days.
Already so proud about how Gratzi has jumped right back in the flow of things after almost a month off.
So excited to see this beautiful new state and get to spend time with some people that I love in this cozy state.

So my crazy butt couldn’t stop thinking about this BIG bay mare in the Idaho corrals so I just had to scoop her up before I headed across country. Everyone meet Valie! Aka Valiant!
She’s a 7 year old mare from Sand Springs
She’s freaking brave and I’ve already gotten first touches. I’m so excited to see her become her best self!

As my new adventure is beginning I must show gratitude for what will always be a beautiful chapter in my book.
Thank you so much to Matt Zimmerman and Stacie Perko Zimmerman for hosting me on their property and giving me the opportunity to meet Idaho and their program.
Here’s a list of all the skills I improved or created in my time in Idaho

Cracking a stock whip
Roping technique
How to drive a tractor
How to build obsticals
Putting first rides on
Picking up feet
Teaching horses to stay on the rail
Yielding the hip
De-escalating a triggered horse
Side passing
Balanced & even circles
Lead changes
Swing dancing
Line dancing
Creating new relationships
And so much more.

In my time in Idaho I got to handle more mustangs then ever before and although part of me is sad about this chapter closing, I’m so excited for the future!

I know she’ll be one of those that’s lessons live with me forever.

Finding beauty and things to be greatful for in life is a practice I try to instill daily, for myself and my horses.
I’m grateful every day to be alive, strong, and willing.

One thing I’ve learned in life is that there’s no time to wait around for happiness. You have to find it wherever you are.

For all those who wanted an update and for all those who don’t know yet, here’s my very belated update!
At the beginning of this month I set out for a new adventure in Idaho with Matt & Stacey Zimmerman on their beautiful ranch.

I’ve made friends with a wild b***o and an aged BLM ex-herd stallion (I REALLY like him, oops) I’m not even sure how many horses I’ve ridden, but I’m surely getting miles in the saddle and learning something new every day.

My thoroughbred gelding has been making leaps in both his physical & mental fitness and I’m super excited to see him really becoming the confident and bold horse he was meant to be.

I’ve got the pleasure to spend lots of time with Kacey Widdick as I’m continually inspired by her strength and work ethic.

There’s SO MANY MUSTANGS and every day I fall more in love with them. Any c**t starter can get on the back of a horse, not every one can change the mind of a mustang.

See sometimes people say things like how a well bred horse is born with a desire to please and do their job, and although I have deep respect for the skill required in any kind of horsemanship……
There’s something different about taking a horse with no desire to please you or even tolerate you and changing their opinion.

There’s a day, with every unhandled or wild horse where they make a direct choice to work with you. It’s no accident, it’s not breeding, it’s not planned, and it cannot be forced.
It’s an intentional choice.
And that’s what I fell in love with.

I know most people didn’t come to see a thoroughbred but man, this guy makes me question my existence just like Tassi did. I see so much potential in this 16.2 hh monster. Finally starting to see him come around and become the gentle goof he was meant to be. I’m thankful I have people in my corner like Matt Zimmerman and Stacie Perko Zimmerman as I face the deep waters ahead.
However, I have no doubts that he will surpass all expectations and become a horse anyone would be lucky to own.

The reach of this gelding absolutely stuns me.
He has been one of the hardest horses for me to understand and that’s why I brought him on.

I tend to revel in the most difficult questions, seeing them only as opportunities.

Rise came with his name, Uprising. We’ve got muscle to build and skills to learn but I can’t wait for the day that everyone agrees with me on his name.

Because he will rise to the challenge, it’s just a matter of me figuring out how.

Which horse was your greatest challenge so far? Comment a picture and encourage me with your story.

Watch out for my newest main project!
Everyone meet the (previously unhandled) Thoroughbred, Uprising!
He is not off the track and was an untouched stallion about 9 months ago. Unfortunately his first home didn’t quite end up being a good match for him so I took him home and he’s basically been a pasture pet until I had the time to give him the attention he deserves!
Now is his time!
I didn’t gentle him but I will be restarting him completely over the next months until he’s ready for his new life

Full day for Spirit of Redemption and the last chapter to our book while he goes on to live a full and happy life. Photos of his new digs and family we got to go on a trail ride, his new owner got a lesson, set him up with food and handling advice for the days of bonding to come.
It’s the most beautiful place and I know he’ll be more then happy there.

HUGE thank you to his Adopter Joan Deutsch and your generosity. I will not waste the opportunity you have blessed me with and I wish many happy trails and learning rides for you and your husband for many years to come.

The final update so that Rem can open his new chapter.

A snip from our last ride.
So thankful for everyone that has been a part of this journey with us- the good the bad and the in between.

Once again I had an exceptional time improving myself and I’m so grateful to all the people who came out and made a bid to take Remi home, I hope you all become mustang adopters one way or another after meeting this spectacular animal.

Thank you to Susan Clogston for being everyone’s cheerleader. Thank you to all competitors, volunteers, and board members of MYWY Mustang Madness TIP Challenge Event
You guys gave me a whole new lease on life and I can’t wait to continue to improve and come back stronger every year.

I will be back for MYWY 2025 for sure, and I’m so excited to see everyone then.

Until next time, I bid you farewell.

Horses (and all living beings) need 2 things to be successful.

The knowledge
&
The motivation

It’s like this epic teeter totter of training that applies to everything. It applies regardless of your methods, discipline, or the breed.

One without the other is a path to nowhere and keeping the balance is of the utmost necessity.

Too much knowledge and not enough motivation? You’ll have a horse that knows but is unwilling to do.

Too much motivation and not enough knowledge? You’ll have a horse who is happy to do but is without direction.

Beyond that, there’s 3 distinctions in training that I feel is too often ignored.

Behavioral rehabilitation (let’s call this Therapy)

Skill creation (let’s call this School)

Physical preparation (let’s call this Yoga)

A horse bolting isn’t caused by them not listening to the aids and therefore cannot be solved fully by teaching a horse to better respond to the aids.
That horse needs Therapy.

A horse who is struggling to be responsive to the aids but does not react fearfully needs practice and advance in their understanding and this cannot be solved by excessive exercise. That horse needs school.

A horse who knows how to travel well in collection but has been sitting in the pasture, cannot be expected to return to work without proper preparation.
That horse needs Yoga.

The thing is just like most people, the average horse needs all of the above to be successful. They need to work with their bodies and their minds all while learning to accomplish a task and be motivated to accomplish said task.

This is my training theory.
