Winnie is BACK! Thank you to Jeff Zeeck for keeping an eye out for her! Brandy recieved a call from her mom this morning that Jeff possibly saw her behind one of his sheds by the bean field. She went out there and Jeff showed her the spot where he saw a cat hanging around. Once they pulled up the cat ran into the bean field, so Brandy started calling for Winnie and she could hear meows, but thought it sounded more like a kitten. Once she got closer to the edge Winnie popped her head out and gladly wanted to be picked up! So we now have our other three legged monster back! Thanks to everyone who shared and watched for her, but the search is over now! Thanks again Jeff!

For pets, houseplants and ornamentals are a common source of potential poisoning. It is important to identify not only the common name of the plant ingested, but also the scientific name. Save this guide for future reference!

Did your pup have a run-in with the neighborhood skunk? 🦨 Don’t worry! We’ve got you covered. We've been handing out our skunk recipe out frequently today! This at-home skunk spray odor removal works wonders. Here’s what to do:

1. Do NOT spray your dog or cat with water yet.

2. Mix the ingredients in the picture below together. A plastic soda bottle with a cap works great for this. The solution will fizz.

3. Keep the mix out of your pet’s eyes. Use a sponge or face wash towel to clean his or her head, and around their mouth and eyes.

4. Knead the solution into the fur, be sure to get every part of your pet with the mixture. Let it soak in for about 10-15 minutes.

5. After letting mixture sit, rinse thoroughly with water.

6. Shampoo with pet shampoo if you like. It will help with the smell.

Say goodbye to that stinky situation! 🤭

🎆🐾 Fireworks season is here, and while it’s a time of celebration, it can be a stressful period for our furry friends. We want to help you prepare and keep your pets calm during fireworks. Here are some tips to reduce anxiety in your pets:

-Create a safe space: Designate a quiet area where your pet feels secure.
-Comfort items: Use their favorite toys, blankets, or even a piece of your clothing.
-Sound masking: Play soothing music or white noise to help drown out the loud bangs.

-Stay calm: Your pets can sense your anxiety. Stay calm and act normally.
-Consult us: If your pet has severe anxiety, talk to us about possible medications or calming solutions.

If your pet has previously had medications, please make sure to refill them ASAP!

We're here to help! Let’s keep our pets happy and stress-free this fireworks season! 🎇🐶🐱

‼️TICKS, TICKS, AND MORE TICKS! ‼️

We are pulling ticks off of pets daily. Things you can do:
🐾 Put your pet on a preventative product that will quickly kill ticks before disease can be transmitted.
🐾 We can test dogs for heartworm and tick-borne diseases (Lyme, Ehrlichiosis, and Anaplasmosis) in one simple test. If they're already showing a positive result we can get them on medications to get them better.
🐾 Schedule an appointment today to get the products and testing your furry friend needs.

04/20/2024

Today is 4/20, so we wanted to educate owners on the importantace of making sure to keep ma*****na out of your pets reach. We have had an increase in cases of ma*****na ingestion since it was legalized! If you think or know it's possible your pet ingested ma*****na, please don't be afraid to tell us.

Ma*****na contains a psychoactive substance called tetrahydrocannabinol or THC. This is the substance that gives humans a “high.” It is also the substance that makes ma*****na toxic to pets.

Pets can be poisoned by ma*****na in different ways: they can eat commercial or homemade edibles, such as baked goods or candies; or directly ingest ma*****na or ma*****na-related products (e.g.: oils, inhalers); or they can inhale it through second-hand smoke. Dogs and cats are far more sensitive to THC than humans and can have dramatic reactions to even a small amount.

🐾Signs:
Signs can occur anywhere from five minutes to four days after a pet is exposed. The signs may last several days, depending on the amount of ma*****na ingested or the concentration of THC in the substance consumed.

🐾Common signs include:
-Lethargy
-Overreaction to sounds
-Dilated pupils or glassed-over eyes
-Dazed expression
-Difficulty walking
-Vomiting

🐾Other signs include:
-Low or high heart rate
-Whining or crying
-Agitation
-Increased or decreased body temperature
-Incontinence/dribbling urine
-Tremors
-Seizures
-Coma

Consuming a ma*****na product with a higher concentration of THC or ingesting a large amount can result in seizures, coma, or death, especially in cats and small dogs.

If your pet ingests ma*****na, contact your veterinarian, or call the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center at (888) 426-4435 or Pet Poison Helpline at (855) 764-7661.

If your pet shows signs of wobbliness, incontinence, is hyper-reactive to sounds, has seizures, or is showing signs of hyperthermia such as excessive panting, you should take your pet to the nearest animal emergency hospital.

🫀April is National Heartworm Awareness Month and we wanted to take this opportunity to discuss the importance of prevention for this serious disease.

Heartworm disease is transmitted through the bite of infected mosquitoes. 🦟

All breeds of dogs are susceptible to heartworm infection, regardless of size or age. Even indoor dogs are at risk if mosquitoes are present in their environment. Heartworm disease can lead to severe health problems in dogs, including damage to the heart, lungs, and blood vessels, which can ultimately be fatal if left untreated.

Prevention is much safer, more effective, and less expensive than treating heartworm disease. There are several FDA-approved heartworm preventives available including monthly oral medications and topical treatments. We are happy to answer any questions you may have regarding heartworm prevention for your pets! Give us a call and we are happy to help!

March is Pet Poison Awareness Month! ⚠️ A common medical emergency that vet clinics deal with regularly. We want to remind pet owners to take a moment to pet-proof their homes and keep common poisons, including ma*****na and certain foods out of your pet's reach. Time is always of the essence if your pet gets into something toxic. Call your vet or 24/7 ANIMAL POISON CONTROL CENTER: (855) 764-7661 if you suspect your pet has ingested something poisonous.

Here is a list of what dogs can and can't have. Everything is in moderation, and if you don't remember what they CAN have, giving them their favorite dog treat is always a great choice! Fatty foods are hard for animals to digest. Poultry bones can damage your pet’s digestive tract. And holiday sweets can contain ingredients that are poisonous to pets.

🦃Keep the feast on the table—not under it. Eating turkey or turkey skin—sometimes even a small amount—can cause a life-threatening condition in pets known as pancreatitis. Fatty foods are hard for animals to digest, and many foods that are healthy for people are poisonous to pets, including onions, raisins, and grapes. If you want to share a Thanksgiving treat with your pet, make or buy a treat that is made just for them.

🦃No pie or other desserts for your pet. Chocolate can be harmful for pets, even though many dogs find it tempting and will sniff it out and eat it. The artificial sweetener xylitol—commonly used in gum and sugar-free baked goods—also can be deadly if swallowed by dogs or cats.
Yeast dough can cause problems for pets, including painful gas and potentially dangerous bloating.

🦃Put the trash away where your pet can’t find it. A turkey carcass sitting out on the table, or left in a trash container that is open or easily opened, could be deadly to your family pet. Dispose of turkey carcasses, bones, and scraps—and anything used to wrap or tie the meat, such as strings, bags, and packaging—in a covered, tightly secured trash bag placed in a closed trash container outdoors (or behind a closed, locked door).
