I want to share one of the hardest things for farms like ours. We are a market farm that relies on farmers markets to help us reach consumers wanting high-quality produce, meats, and other farm products.
Places like the Cartersville Farmers Market are vital to farms like ours and for Bartow County. For the second year in a row, we have been denied a spot in the Cartersville farmers market with no clear explanation. They for years have restricted access to their market by limiting the size and access for new vendors rather than serving the businesses of Bartow by choosing a larger, more accessible location that would give more options for consumers, better access for vendors and shoppers, and would allow new businesses an opportunity to join. It’s things like this that prevent farms like ours trying to fill the need that has been created by rising prices of tomatoes, eggs, and other produce at the grocery store while ours stay the same.
So if you value having access to local, high quality produce close by, speak up to places like Bartow County UGA Extension that oversees the Cartersville Farmers Market or support your local farms by purchasing directly from them.
