We started the first of several ponds through our wet lands. The big Kuneโ€™s are going to be able to forage on nuts from oaks and hickoryโ€™s while they help pack the pool catch area. The entrance to the pool and the top of the shelf will have biochar barriers. These will bind any PFAS and microplastics coming into the farm. The barriers will be replaced periodically. The inlet will also get granite, lava rock and sand to help filter the water.

This is a step to help make the farm even more sustainable and healthier.

The greenhouse is cooking along now and keeping Farmer K busy. The plants are making lots of new flowers, so Farmer K is getting buzzy to do the job of the bees who have gone off work for the winter. We use an electric toothbrush to hand pollinate each flower for several days. We're also keeping the fire burning to keep these babies warm at night, which means a lot of late night visits to the greenhouse to check the stove. The wood heat adds CO2 for the plants as well as provides ash and biochar for soil amendments. It's a lot of work to keep the greenhouse going but in the end it is all worth it for the delicious summer flavor in the dead of winter.

Wednesday we got the opportunity to work with Stem students at Red Top Middle School. We want to say a big congrarats to Red top on winning a grant from Georgia Organics that helped with this project.

Lowe's Home Improvement in Cartersville and Vego Garden both donated to this project as well. Five raised beds were planted with winter veggies. These veggies will be harvested and used in the cafe at Red Top.

Students got to learn about how turnips are used as cover crops, as a fresh veggie, and to break up soil compaction.

These beds are now covered with low tunnels to help Red Top grow through the winter. Thank you Stephanie for starting this project.

This September marked our first year of being at our new farm and it has been a big one!

There have been many ups and downs and plans have been slower to come together than we would have liked, but the farm has transformed from where we began. Our year started with broken pipes and heaters, tractor break-downs, unreliable contractors, and down time for surgery. Phew! We've had more projects than time or hands, but we've managed to add fencing, a greenhouse, two grow areas, alpacas, pigs, sheep, chickens, bees, and now farm tours!

Our Farm Tours are officially open for everyone to come visit the farm, see the animals, buy farm goods, and visit with us starting Thanksgiving week! We have tours available currently through the end of the year and will be continuing to add dates and activities as we grow.

We have lots of new farm activities (homeschool classes, hay rides, u-pick, and more) planned that we will update as they become available. Next year we are also anticipating an exciting addition which will be occupying a lot of time, so our produce selection will look a little different. We have decided to scale back to melons, pumpkins, garlic, cucumbers, and tomatoes which will be available at our farm stand throughout the season in addition to our farm fresh eggs (corn-free, soy-free, GMO-free), pastured pork (coming next spring), and local raw honey.

We hope to see you all soon!

The 77 acres bordering our property is up for rezoning. This is a huge disappointment if it passes. Currently zoning would allow for 2 acre lots, this change would allow for minimum of 0.6 acre lots which will drastically impact our water quality and ability to farm the way we do. We had hoped the person who bought it and clear cut the land would do as he had originally said he would and create a cattle farm but unfortunately money talks and this is what we get. We don't have much faith in the Bartow County Government or Steve Taylor but we will show up alongside our neighbors to oppose this rezoning.
