Stars and Stripes Dog Rescue EIN # 88-0888840 We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. We are grassroots, boots-on-the-ground, shelter less, foster-based and volunteer-powered organization.

The mission of Stars and Stripes Rescue and Training Center is to rescue at risk shelter dogs and to train them to become the highest quality service dogs to military veterans suffering with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. We will rescue dogs from Northern California high-kill animal shelters. We will also network with local rescue/shelters that might have a need to transfer dogs out of their faci

lity. We also provide free medical support for dogs of service members who are involved with Service Dog programs. We also find temporary homes for their dogs while they attend those several month-long programs. Knowing their dogs are safe and well cared for while they are away helps ensure those service members can successfully complete the programs. Dogs will complete the Canine Good Citizen™ Program and must pass the CGC Test. They will then move on to Service Dog training with the focus on PSTD skills. Once the dogs pass their “Support Dog” certification training, they will be adopted out to a fully screened applicant at no cost to them or their family. We also provide temporary housing and care (including veterinary support) for the dogs of military veterans while they participate in health care programs.

A BIG Thank You to Dulce & Hiram from Docs Crealities who stopped by and dropped off a huge load of dog supplies. These supplies will be used at the Stand Downs coming up in September.

Without generous donations like this we couldn’t provide the level of support to our Veterans.

When one thinks of PTSD, the standard image is that of a soldier returning from war or an individual who has suffered severe personal trauma. However, PTSD is not confined to humans alone. Dogs, too, can suffer from it, and this condition usually manifests in ways that are not only heart-wrenching b...

The 4th of July is a time for celebration, fireworks, and gatherings. However, while humans may revel in the festivities, our canine companions often find the day stressful and frightening. The loud noises and bright lights can cause anxiety, fear, and even panic in dogs. To ensure your furry friend...

We met Riley Carroll from Fox 40 News at the Placer Stand Down. She was so impacted by our story/mission that she wanted to do a story on us. She met us at a local park to watch one of our dogs in training work (very warm morning) and we did a 30-minute interview. With the exception of my sweaty brow, Riley did an amazing job telling our story. Take a look:

Meet Dallas, a 2 year old Jack Russell Rescue dog. Her dad is Navy Veteran who served in the Gulf War, spent time in Iraq, Iran, and Kuwait. She was very reserved when I arrived but after some basic slip lead training (and the best treats) she really warmed up. Her dad also had some Service Dog training at the Menlo Park facility so he is eager to get to work with Dallas.

We would like to thank Spoof Dawg to the Rescue, Jake’s Journey Home, and Placer Animal Shelter for their incredible support and donations of everything a dog needs.

I have never seen so many grateful and excited dog owners.

Thank you Dr. Bronwyn Szignarowitz for donating 2 days of her time to help take care of all the dogs. We would be lost without support.

An amazing turnout of veterans and their fur babies. We were able to provide vaccines/nail trims/check ups and tons and tons of dog supplies for so many pups at the Placer Stand Down this past Tuesday/Weds at Grounds in Roseville. Here are just a few of the faces we were able to meet.

Who is RRUFF?

RRUFF is a small nonprofit based in Rocklin, CA. They are 100% volunteer developed and staffed. Their original mission was to build the first off-leash dog park. The park opened December 23, 2011; and is the premier off-leash dog park in the Greater Sacramento Region. In 2014, the Healing Heroes program was added. This program funds service dog training for Disabled American Veterans and First Responders with Post Traumatic Stress and other invisible disabilities. Since 2014, their mission has expanded and is now focused on serving the disabled veteran/first responder community and their canine companions. 17 Veterans die by su***de every day, and more first responders die by su***de than on the job. They exist for the sole purpose of being a catalyst for hope and change. We do this: 1 Hero & 1 Dog at a Time. They are a non-salaried 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity registered with the Internal Revenue Service and the California Attorney General Registry of Charitable Trusts.

The Boardwalk in Orangevale has named a drink in our honor. If you are in the area, stop by and try it out. We will get a portion of the proceeds from every Tail Wagger sold.

Our great friends at Jake's Journey Home are also on the menu. If you aren't in the mood to have your Tail Wagged, try out The Jake.

A big shoutout and Thanks to Sara for designing our drink and helping to get the word out about our organization.

Welcome to our latest furball members of Veteran owned dogs in training.

Shadow the black lab, has received her Canine Good Citizen Certification and is working on fine tuning her tasks before her Public Access Test.

Next is Dixie, 2 year old Doberman Pinscher. Also passed her Good Canine Citizen Test and already has her tasks down. We are working on some recent confidence challenges. She was a bit shy today when we took her picture. 😁

Both are incredibly sweet and extremely intelligent dogs.

On Saturday, March 9th from 9:30am-3pm, the VA Northern California Women Veterans Program will be hosting Celebrating Women Veterans Health and Wellness Retreat, Town Hall, and Resource Fair at the VA Mather campus at 10535 Hospital Way, Mather, CA 94566.

This event will be held indoors in Building 650 and Building 700. Including mammography screening, cervical cancer screening, and flu/covid vaccination for any women in need of preventative care.

Additionally, there will be mini-workshops for arts/creativity, education, and body movement.

We will be there talking to veterans about the importance of service dogs, how we can help them either train their dog, or get on our waiting list to receive a service dog.

I recently heard back from the Program Director at Folsom Prison - New this morning. They just went through an almost complete management change in the last two weeks. The Warden is the same and a couple of the Management team is still the same but they have 6 new executives.

We are still a go for the program, they were set back a little because of all the changes. The Operating Procedures will go around this week for review. Once they get back with edits (if there are any,) it will go for final approval.

We are now looking at April 1st start. I am sure there will be additional meetings/presentations for the new execs.

They have also narrowed the Program Name to two:

Second Chance Canine Academy
New Leash on Life Program.

Once the inmates are selected for the program, they will be given the opportunity to vote on which name to use.

Progress has definitely been slow to get rolling, but we are using the time wisely to fine tune the training material and ensure we have all the training gear purchased and ready to go.

Thanks for your continued support.
