While I was out today my tree got a bit of rain & snow (tinsel & cut paper snowflakes). I can hardly take my eyes off it when it gets to this stage - but the labs only have eyes for Steve.

The puppies needed to come inside (in all their muddy glory) to get new collars today. At seven weeks they were constantly bursting their “litter identification” collars. I can’t wait to get them out on some non-squishy grass for more action photography!

These 5-week-old pups were in leafy heaven with a trip to the lawn. It was almost impossible to get photos because they currently move at the speed of light! When you get one to sit still, then pick up your phone, they switch to charging speed!

Puppy portraits in the front yard. Today was the first day introducing gruel after Kate feeds them. They got all excited, and then slept like rocks!

Day 17 and big things are beginning in a small way! The puppies began to blink yesterday. They are all trying to get up onto four paws, and we have our first four-pounder!

Relaxing before the big day. Kate is such a happy dog, always wagging, smiling, giving hugs, and love-talking! With only a week left before whelping day, she is finding more opportunities for napping just now.

And the vet sez: “Congratulations!!! Kate is SOOOOoooo pregnant!” It was the most celebratory vet announcement ever. We almost had a conga line of our veterinarian, two vet techs, and a veterinary student from UCDavis coming to proclaim the exciting news. Yep! We’re all pretty happy, and expecting pups pretty close to Valentines Day.

Daisy and Jack’s puppies are almost four weeks old! These are the boys and one of these handsome fellas doesn’t have a deposit!

And then there were three! (Eight weeks old today and four have gone to their “real” homes.) It’s odd to have such variations in go-home dates. Rosie will continue with us until after her owners do a college drop-off in New York!
