We are proud to be a Cat Friendly Practice. We have an exotic doctor on staff full and are happy to provide wellness and sick care for reptiles (snakes, lizards, bearded dragons, etc.), amphibians (e.g. turtles), pocket pets (rabbits, Guinea pigs, ferrets, hamsters, rats, mice, etc.), and birds to name a few! Happy New Year from the doctors and staff at Animal Hospital of Northwood! 🌟🐕🐈 We are looking forward to a year of cuddles, tail wags, purrs, and squawks but most of all another year of keeping your furry family happy and healthy! 🩺🐾

Thanks to everyone who voted for our Gingerbread houses!
The winners are in 🏆 Deb got 1st place, Julian got 2nd, and Jordan got 3rd! We loved getting to share this Christmas tradition of decorating gingerbread houses with our staff.

The holidays are approaching quickly! 🎅🎁🎄🎆 We have some changes to our regular business hours surrounding the holidays to allow our staff to enjoy some time with their loved ones.

With all the excitement around the holidays and family coming to visit, it is one of the most common times for pets to go missing from their home. But a microchip can help you reunite with your furry family members!

Wishing you a stress free holiday season 👍✨

Here are some tips to keep your pets safe and the season stress free:
🎄 Beware of Toxins: Chocolate, alcohol, tree preservatives, and mistletoe can be harmful if eaten.
🎁 Watch That Wrapping: Dispose of wrapping paper, ribbons, and bows to avoid tempting chew hazards.
💡 Candle Caution: Keep an eye on decorative lights and candles. These can pose a serious hazard for pets.

When we first met Kimchi, we all fell in love with his outgoing personality. He had a big round belly, but this not uncommon for puppies and kitten. It can just be from eating a lot of food right before the appointment or sometimes if they have intestinal parasites. His abdomen felt normal during his initial physical exam.

However, Kimchi's mom noticed his belly kept getting bigger and more firm so she brought him back in to see us a few days later. Dr. Woodman found some free fluid in his abdomen, we collected a sample and sent it off to the lab for analysis. Kimchi was diagnosed with "wet" Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP). This is a viral infection that caused him to develop the fluid in his abdomen. FIP progresses very rapidly and the cats decline quickly as they get sicker. Until recently had no treatment or cure. Thankfully that is not the case anymore!

Thanks to Dr. Woodman's rapid diagnosis, we were able to get the medication that Kimchi needs to treat the FIP started within a few days. Kimchi is responding to the medication well, he continues to grow and be a playful normal kitten. The fluid in his abdomen continues to reduce. While he still has a long road of treatment ahead, we are so thankful to be able to help him along on his journey back to being a healthy happy kitten! 💜
