I've reached day 1407 in the shelter.
Tomorrow morning, (Wednesday) my trainer will be visiting me from 9-10am. We're extending an invitation for you to join us on an adventure walk. Please message us to schedule, as this will take place before their open hours. You'll receive special guest treatment. Although the weather will be cold, I've endured a 16-hour wait overnight and require a substantial morning walk. 🌅
This was a fun little game I played with Marla as I was sitting with my injured dog at SAFE. She knows Sit and Down from a distance AND still follows direction when I'M sitting onnthe floor!.

Marla remains susceptible to startling noises, but her ability to cope with distractions has improved significantly. The sound was a tarp blowing.
She's learning so much!

Marla is still refusing to walk through doorways so I am taking every opportunity on our outings to walk under, through and in between objects. She even smiled in the tunnel on this visit!
Marla is making great progress and training needs to continue. She has ONE paid session left. If we stop now Marla will go back to an isolated kennel life and regress. 🌸Marla is making excellent progress, and I have begun integrating her into the main adoption room. Previously, she was overly stressed and unable to cope with the stimulation in this environment. However, her growth is evident. She was able to eat alongside others and, although still somewhat anxious, demonstrated improved coping skills that enabled her to manage the stress.

Where she once went on high alert and stressed out seeing new people, she is starting to get excited and ask to meet them! Improvements from her training outings have been noticed by staff!

Yesterday, Marla had the opportunity to practice greeting strangers with three rescue volunteers, and it was a great success!
I am seeking a few volunteers for next week to assist Marla in practicing greetings with strangers. We will meet, exchange greetings from a short distance, maybe take a brief walk together, and bid farewell. Volunteers must be able to follow instructions and keep their hands to themselves.
