This mare is for sale due to me being pregnant and being a wimp about riding c**ts at the moment 😅. Due to this, I haven’t rode her since about April/May. I will post the videos I have of her riding back then. I have been lunging and doing ground work with her a few times a week just to give her brain something to do. She HATES sitting and will literally walk/trot the whole pasture after not being worked for a week or two so she needs a new home that’ll put her to work. She needs and loves a job. She will work all day everyday and never be tired. To me, she trains and acts nothing like her running bred side but fully like the cutting/cow lines she has. She will cut horses in the pasture and is a quick and turney thing. Naturally plants her butt in the ground. I think she’d make a phenomenal barrel horse but can also easily excel in the cow horse world.

These fundamentals are so much more important for barrel horses than actual pattern work is.

Just 3 weeks into this mares training, when she came she had no sense of staying between your hands and moving off your body. She pulled and pulled against the bit and wouldn’t engage her hind end. She’s really starting to soften up and move off my body now as well as use her body more correctly. This will help teach her to rate when I sit down coming into a barrel and lets her know it’s time to engage her hind end and slow up. I love watching training horses transform. ❤️

This 9 year old mare is in to be fancy broke and put on the barrel pattern. When she first came she would push against the bit like crazy, try to take the reins out of my hands, and had no give to her. She didn’t know how to be soft or bend. Also didn’t know how to stop using her hind end. She is coming along really nice. This is just about 2 weeks into training. 😊

This mare continues to amaze me more and more each ride. Today was the first time I really asked for her to add a little speed and only the 4th session doing pattern work.

Ground driving, such a vital step before I ever get on a c**t. This guy was 5 with no prior training. Pretty much teaches the horses how to ride from the ground. They learn my voice commands such as that clicking means to trot and kissing means to lope. It also teaches them how to steer, move off of bit pressure, and respect the bit without me having to fight them on their back. By the time I get on them, they are practically broke 😉.

I see a lot of people get frustrated at races because they always have the “same time” and don’t make progress.

How much effort are you putting in at home? Your horse and you are athletes. If you want to be faster you have to be stronger as well as your horse. If your times aren’t getting faster. Double what you are doing for workouts. Double the days you are riding your horse during the week. A barrel horse should be rode 5X a week minimum to be at top performance. They should not have a belly. They should be lean and muscular.

But also, what are YOU doing to be better? If your horse gets stronger and faster, but you don’t, you will be left behind and/or holding your horse back. How in shape the rider is has a lot to do with the horses ability. This is why anyone could buy a 1D horse but not just anyone could place in the 1D with it.

If you lose the excuses and push yourself harder the progress will come and it’ll come fast.

I get a ton of questions about how I c**t start so I figured I’d try to remember to video the process with one of my training horses rather than trying to explain it over text constantly. 😊

This guy is a untouched 5 year old. I couldn’t even lead him to his pen without a buddy by him because he just didn’t know anything. Never had a saddle, pad, stable blanket, etc on. This is day 2 of his training. I start everything in the round pen and make sure it’s in a way “broke” on the ground before I ever hop on its back.

I’m trying to get better about posting current videos of my training and what I do!

Don’t mind my rambling, I suck at videos 🤣

This gelding came in just 1.5 weeks ago. He didn’t move off leg, it took lots of kicking and smooching to get him to trot, and then again to get him to lope. He was real lazy in his movement and put no effort into what he was being asked to do. He also didn’t know how to bend around my leg, bend his rib age, etc. It felt like getting this horse to take off into a lope, heck even just a trot, from a standstill would be impossible 😂. I am really impressed with how far he’s came in just 1.5 weeks and excited to continue watching his progress. ☺️

The trouble I watch a lot of people run into with their barrel horses is they don’t have them broke/responsive enough. They start running them before they can even do these basic steps at the beginning of this video which is just going to set you up for failure. If your horse can’t correctly do everything you ask for, every random/new barrel drill you throw at it, then it isn’t broke enough to be running barrels.

It sure was nice taking a year off of training others horses and regrouping mentally...but I can’t say I didn’t miss this. ❤️ this time I’m keeping the amount of horses I take in monthly smaller to be able to put more time and focus into each horse/owner and not burn myself out. Quality over quantity ✨

Little by little our place is coming together and it’s such a beautiful site ❤️ once we get the rest of our acreage fenced off we will have enough pastures to rotate and all the trainers/my personal horses will have grass to eat 24/7....for now they enjoy grazing through the night 🥰 thankful for everyone that continues to believe in my process. I truly appreciate all of you!

Someone who’s bored and needs a nice project here’s the one for ya! As always, I’ll be picky where he goes.

7 year old gelding, FAST, knows how to use his butt. He’ll be 1D no doubt but I don’t have the time right now to figure him out. I was hoping he’d be more of a “fix his pattern up and start entering him” kinda horse. He’s phenomenal at home. Gets hot on the pattern/doing drills but nothing crazy. Never bucked, reared, etc. i thought he would be ready to enter this weekend or next. I took him to an outside arena yesterday and he lost his marbles. HOT would be an understatement. Still didn’t do anything nuts like bucking, rearing, just needs the proper time put into him. I won’t be hauling to local shows until this fall so I don’t have the time to work through these kinks with him right now as I’m only going to the bigger shows. Broke to death. Knows everything. Patterned real nice when he wants to be a good boy. Anyone could trail ride him he’s SO chill.

If someone wants a bomb trail horse he’d be perfect for that as well and really enjoys trails. Not spooky at all. Rides out fantastic alone. Not buddy sour.

Nice conformation, straight back, not downhill at all. Straight legs.

Training c**t Gracie at the end of her first 30 days ❤️

When this mare came in she wouldn’t back up and would loose her mind when I asked her to, giving to the bit or any sort of pressure was nonexistent (she’d grab the bit and throw her nose up), didn’t know how to trot or canter off nicely you had to really kick to get her going and would only canter straight lines. She’s come so far in just 30 days I can’t wait to get her even more fancy in the next 30!

5 yr old gelding. Off the track. Just started getting fancy broke and coming along real fast. Super quick learner. Everything I’ve taught him he’s caught on within one session. Nice and soft. Naturally wants to use his butt. Trail rides great. Literally ANYONE can ride him he’s so dang chill. I’ve had beginners on him. Picks up his leads, collects pretty nice, just needs some finishing touches and to be put on the pattern. No quirks. Not spooky.

The beginning VS end of what the first training session looks like on colts that have had no ground work. My goal for session one is to get them to start understanding how to give into pressure along with getting them to move out away from me and have forward motion. This filly was very stuck next to me and didn’t want to leave at the beginning. She would rear and charge into me VS move away from me. Then once she started having forward motion she would dart to the gate to try and get close to her friends. Her mind was all over the place and she had no idea what I was asking of her. By the end you can see she has a calm mind, is nicely walking in circles around me, she’s putting no pressure on my line, and is figuring out how to switch directions and give into the pressure on the line. My goal is for every colt to have a calm mind and want to learn so by the end of session one I want them calmly walking circles on the line and relaxed giving into pressure. I want them moving forward when I ask for forward motion but I don’t want them trotting or cantering all over the place, tugging on the line, feeling like they have to go a million miles an hour etc. Calm but responsive is always my goal 💜
