Dressage / Eventing trainers, here is an opportunity if you are looking for a flip. Or keep him and make him yours !

Stunning (and he knows it) 16.3h tb gelding. 10 yrs old. Bay with no chrome. Chip has extensive training but he hasn’t been able to find anyone who can access all that wonderfulness. Fancy mover. He is an athlete and a forward thinker but listens well and performs with an experienced rider. Chip is super sweet and playful. He wears fronts but no other maintenance.

Price SIGNIFICANTLY reduced to find a home THIS WEEK! Barn closing!

“Farm work doesn’t make you stronger. It doesn’t make you anything. It reveals you.

There’s gym strong and then there’s farm strong. They’re mutually exclusive.

The toughest women you’ll ever meet spend their days on a farm.

There are more uses for twine than you can possibly imagine. You can tie up a hole in a slow feeder, fashion a tail strap for a horse’s blanket, mend a broken fence and use it as a belt.

“Well that certainly didn’t go as planned,” is one thing you’ll say quite a bit.

Control is a mere illusion. The thought that you have any, at any given time, is utterly false.

Sometimes sleep is a luxury. So are lunch and dinner. And brushing your hair.

If you’ve never felt your obliques contract, then you’ve never tried stopping an overly full wheelbarrow of horse manure from tipping over sideways. Trust me, you’ll find muscles that you never knew existed on the human skeleton to prevent this from happening.

When one of the animals is ill, you’ll go to heroic lengths to minimize their discomfort.
When you lose one of them, even though you know that day is inevitable, you still feel sadness, angst and emotional pain from the top of your head to the tips of your toes. And it’s a heaviness that lingers even though you must regroup and press on.

You’ll cry a lot. But you’ll never live more fully. You’ll remain present no matter what because you must. There is no other option.

You’ll ask for so many miracles and hold out hope until the very last.

You will, at least once, face-plant in the manure pile.

You’ll find yourself saying things like, “we have maybe twenty minutes of daylight left to git ‘er done” whilst gazing up at a nonspecific place in the sky.

You’ll become weirdly obsessive about the weather.

You’ll go out in public wearing filthy clothes and smelling of dirt, sweat and p**p. People will look at you sideways and krinkle their noses but you won’t care.

Your entire day can derail within ten seconds of the rising sun.

You can wash your coveralls. They won’t look any cleaner, but they will smell much nicer.

Farm work is difficult in its simplicity.

You’ll always notice just how beautiful sunrises and sunsets really are.

Should you ever have the opportunity to work on a farm, take the chance! You will never do anything more satisfying in your entire life.

Well, that about sums it up, folks!” - unknown author

So true. All of it.

My mom was the toughest woman I ever knew.

ANYONE looking for a SAFE gorgeous large pony with show experience? This guy is an absolutely safe bet for any kid or adult. Branded and registered quarter horse, this bay, foundation bred guy stands at 14.2h and takes up a lot of leg. He is barefoot, requires no maintenance and lives off of air. EAZY keeper. Spur trained, he also respects the crop and will go where you point him. Much more a push ride, he does have his own slow motor that is except his smooth. He would be an amazing pony for anyone looking for safe quality pony on a budget. He has done IEA and BEST, low level eventing and has been trail ridden. The past 2 years, this dude has been working on western dressage and has a ton of buttons. He will do what is required but takes a joke if he isn’t sure what you are asking- a gem of a steady eddy. Some of his buttons include half-pass, shoulder-in, leg yield, haunches in, turn on haunches, turn on the fore, collection, and he always holds himself in frame. While he doesn’t not have an auto change, he has an easy simple change. This guy is so smart that it will be easy to teach him. He just has not been asked!
He has been voted Horse of the Show for a few years in IEA and is a barn favorite. A perfect gentleman for the farrier and vet. Will stand all day at the trailer, in cross-ties or in a stall. Can live in or out. He is not a bully in the field but will stand up for himself if the need arises but he doesn’t look for trouble.

We cannot say enough about him. This guy does it all and we will be sad to see him go.

🦄🦄Believe in your horse

Earlier this week, I went to do some filming with a hunter jumper trainer named Archie Cox. I was so inspired by being around him. He truly is an incredible horseman. Archie said something that really stuck in my mind. He said “believe in your horse because if you believe they can do it, they believe they can do it!

And this is so true. The more that you reward and praise your horse for the things they do right and the more that you focus on what is possible rather than on what it limiting you, the more you can achieve.

Lately I’ve been in a rut with my riding. Our barn has been on lockdown because of the Vesticular Stomatitis so we’ve not been able to go to shows and I’ve not been able to go train with my coach Joh Hinneman. Sometimes I just feel like I’m not making any progress.

But this week, I’ve been really focusing on rewarding my horses and focusing on what is possible rather than on their limitations. Horses are incredible creatures. Each day that we have with them truly is a gift. Pet them, love them, believe in them, and it will pay off!

Happy Riding! Amelia

Make Them Carry Their Saddle

A father of a darling girl and I were talking last week and he said that he wanted his daughter to ride more and not have to do the work part of the catching, grooming, and saddling. I smiled as I explained.

Riding horses is a combination of strength, timing, and balance. Kids in this country are physically weak (unless they are actively involved with weight training and physical conditioning 4+ times a week.)

When you walk out to the field, you are clearing your stress from being under fluorescent lights all day; feeling the sun soak into your bones. As your body moves on uneven surfaces, it strengthens your legs and core.

When you groom your horse (especially currying), you are toning your arms and stabilizing your core.

When you carry your saddle, your arms, chest, and back are doing isolated strengthening work.

Being near horses, calms and makes you tune into the splendor of these empathetic animals.

When you ride at a posting trot, it’s equivalent to a slow jog calorie burn wise.

After a lesson, the riders are physically tired and mentally quiet and balanced.

Horses feel your heart beat and mirror your emotions back.

Riding large and somewhat unpredictable animals makes you resilient and pushes your expectations.

Working with horses is so much more than learning how to ride.

So parents, make your children carry their saddles. Don’t do the hard parts for them, as long term it actually hurts them. To advance with their riding, they must get stronger.

I love having you all at the farm, and am so grateful to get to share these fascinating animals with you.
