Because dogs can’t just come out and say, “Hey! I am feeling very uncomfortable!”, WE need to learn dog-speak!

Most of the time, not all, dogs are giving clear signals before a nip or a bite happens… we humans are just oblivious.

ALERT TO OUR RAWFEEDERS!!

Raw feeders, take note! Avian Flu (H5N1) is on the rise and could pose risks to your pets. 🐕🐈🚨

🧭 Navigating a fresh food diet when a biosecurity concern enters into the food supply is uniquely challenging and often leaves pet parents questioning the safety of the food they feed.

👉 Here’s a breakdown of common food sources affected by H5N1:
Chicken
Turkey
Duck
Quail
Pheasant
Goose
Wild Game Birds
Eggs

🚨 Thoroughly cooking all raw products that are fed to cats is highly recommended to avoid the risk of H5N1 infection because of their increased susceptibility to death. Furthermore, cooking poultry and beef products that are fed to dogs is strongly encouraged until further data is obtained on cross-species transmission.

(Psssst.....pass it on!)
SALT DOUGH ORNAMENTS ARE TOXIC TO DOGS
Not all dog-owners are aware of this danger. Often, families will make these ornaments as a holiday activity together, or they will come home from school with the kids. Some people make paw prints in salt dough as keepsakes.
They are made from flour, water, and lots of salt, and dogs may be tempted to eat them like a cookie. You think they taste terrible, but that does not stop some dogs from ingesting them. Same holds true for craft-dough which has a lot of salt too.
Best to keep them out of the home if you have pets, or, at least, way out of reach, but why take chances.
Excess salt intake in dogs results in vomiting within several hours of ingestion. There is great thirst and urination. The clinical signs of salt poisoning can progress to weakness, diarrhea, muscle tremors, seizures, coma. Depending on the size of the dog and the amount ingested, it can result in brain damage, organ failure, even death, or the heartbreaking decision to euthanize.
If ingested, contact a vet immediately; this could qualify as an emergency, and make sure to relay how much dough was eaten and that the vet clinic understands right off the hop that it was not a typical cookie or regular dough eaten, but salt dough with a high concentration of salt.
Be aware. Be safe.

Facebook has "posting guidelines" for community members and businesses using its platform. We accept their right to enforce their rules as they see fit and do our best to adhere to their posting policies.

Occasionally Facebook breaks its own rules and removes valid or legitimate content and, unfortunately, the platform makes it impossible to speak to a live representative for a remedy.

We are a legitimate page representing a "brick and mortar" business, following their guidelines, and posting acceptable content but today they removed one of our posts which did not break their rules.

We opted to ask for a review, but the check-box options they offer do not match our complaint... so the outcome of their review is questionable. That makes us concerned as we are hearing reports of other pages and accounts being deleted.

How great is this?

PET SAFETY REMINDER: Remember that asphalt (and concrete) gets HOT during the summer and can cause burns to pets’ feet. On a 77-degree day asphalt temps have measured as high as 125 degrees – and on an 87-degree day as high as 143 degrees (it’s already 88 today in central Iowa and temps are climbing, so even more dangerous)! Skin destruction can occur in as little as 1 minute on a 125-degree surface. To keep your pet safe, press the back of your hand firmly against the asphalt (or concrete) for 7 seconds before walking your dog on it. If it’s not comfortable for you, it could potentially harm your pup. Even better, walk your dog in the grass to not even risk paw damage.
