🐾 September is Animal Pain Awareness Month 🐾
Pain in pets can come from many different sources—sometimes obvious, sometimes hidden. (Check out our last post for common symptoms of pain to watch for 👀).

🐕🐈 Remember—pain isn’t always just a sign that your pet is “getting old.” While age can play a role, discomfort often comes from treatable conditions. If your pet is showing changes in behavior, activity, or appetite, it could be a sign of an underlying problem. With the right care, many pets can live comfortably and happily for years. ❤️

Today, we pause to remember the lives lost and the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001.

To the first responders, service members, and everyday individuals who stepped forward in courage and compassion during one of our nation’s darkest days — we extend our deepest gratitude. Your bravery and selflessness continue to inspire us all.

Though 24 years have passed, the memory of that day reminds us of the strength, resilience, and unity that carries us forward.

From all of us at Spencer Creek Animal Hospital, we honor the fallen, we thank the brave, and we keep the families forever in our hearts. ❤️🤍💙

💙 Today is World Su***de Prevention Day. 💙

Su***de touches every community and profession — prevention and awareness are vital for everyone. No matter your career, background, or story, your life matters.

For those of us in veterinary medicine, this day carries an especially heavy weight. Veterinarians face one of the highest su***de rates of any profession, which is why the Not One More Vet (NOMV) movement was created — to provide support, break stigma, and ensure no veterinary professional feels alone.

But prevention is not limited to one profession. Each of us can make a difference by reaching out, listening without judgment, and reminding others that help is always available.

💛 If you or someone you know is struggling, please reach out:
📞 Call or text 988 (Su***de & Crisis Lifeline)
🌐 Learn more at nomv.org

Together, we can build a world where compassion, connection, and prevention save lives — in every field, for every person.

🐾 September is Happy Cat Month! 🐾

A happy cat is a not bored cat! 🐱💡 Just like people, cats thrive when their minds and bodies are engaged. Boredom can lead to stress, unwanted behaviors, and even health concerns.

✨ Interactive play, climbing spaces, puzzle feeders, and safe window perches are all great ways to provide enrichment. Even a few minutes a day of quality playtime makes a big difference in keeping your cat healthy and happy.

The American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP) emphasizes that enrichment is essential for feline wellness — keeping your cat’s body active and mind stimulated helps them live their best life.

💜 Celebrate Happy Cat Month by adding something new to your cat’s daily routine!

🐾 September is Animal Pain Awareness Month 🐾

Our pets can’t tell us when something hurts, but they do show signs in their own ways. Sometimes these changes are subtle, like differences in activity, appetite, grooming, or behavior. Recognizing pain early can make a huge difference in their health and happiness.

🐕🐈 Pain is never just “slowing down with age”—it’s a signal that something needs attention. If you notice your pet acting differently, it may be their way of telling you something is wrong. ❤️

🤍🐾 Happy National White Cat Day! 🐾🤍

Did you know? Only about 5% of cats are pure white—and many have dazzling blue or odd-colored eyes. Some white cats can even be prone to deafness, making them extra unique and deserving of a little extra care. 🐱✨

At Spencer Creek Animal Hospital, we love celebrating cats of all colors—but today, it’s all about the snowy beauties. ❄️ During visits, we make things easier on your feline friends by using treats, gentle distractions, and even our bird feeders to keep them calm and comfortable.

So if you share your home with a white cat, give them an extra cuddle (or snack!) today in their honor, and drop a photo below! 📸💙

🌿🐾 Happy National Wildlife Day! 🐾🌿

At Spencer Creek Animal Hospital, we celebrate the incredible wildlife that shares our Missouri backyards, trails, and parks. Encounters with wild animals can be exciting—but it’s important to know how to handle them safely (for you and the animal).

Here are some quick tips for common Missouri wildlife:

🦝 Raccoons & Opossums – If you spot them in your yard, admire from a distance. Don’t feed them—they’ll quickly learn to come back!

🐢 Turtles – If you see one crossing the road, you can help by gently moving it in the direction it’s headed. Never relocate it to a new area.

🐍 Snakes – Most are harmless and play an important role in controlling pests. Give them space and they’ll move along on their own.

🦌 Deer – Drive carefully at dawn and dusk when they’re most active. If you encounter a fawn alone, don’t touch—it’s usually waiting for its mother.

🐦 Injured Birds – Place in a small, ventilated box and contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator.

⚠️ Remember: If an animal appears sick, injured, or orphaned, do not try to care for it yourself. Contact the Missouri Department of Conservation or a licensed rehabilitator for help.

Today, let’s celebrate the wild creatures that make Missouri so special—and keep them safe by respecting their space. 💚
