We have long been known as the rescue to contact if you find a sick or injured animal, and today was no different. This beautiful Shepherd was found in the Gasconade River, near drowning as she was unable to get herself up the embankment to safety. Thankfully weekend boaters were able to reach her and bring her in to us. She is severely emaciated (20-30 pounds underweight) and nearly every parasite has invaded her body. Treatment has been started and our shelter veterinarian has placed her on a re-feeding regimen to avoid issues that can happen with the reintroduction of food.

While we were getting the Shepherd started on treatment, another call comes in about a kitten found laying in the roadway in poor condition. Another call to our shelter veterinarian with photos and stats so we can get urgent treatment started on the kitten. Along with a severe upper respiratory infection making breathing difficult, she is also emaciated, dehydrated, anemic, and signs of possible heat stroke. She is still in guarded condition this evening and can use all the positive thoughts you can send her way.

We have had many other urgent medical cases these last few weeks and the expenses associated with their care has added up and have quickly depleted our funds. FOSTER NEEDED: Nala came into our care a few days ago and blessed us with 11 puppies overnight!! The shelter is a noisy and stressful environment in itself, let alone trying to protect and care for 11 babies.

Nala would love to go to a foster home asap, where she can spread out and care for her babies. Note: This will be an 8-week commitment, Nala and babies will need a separate area in the home away from other household pets, and of course keep in mind that the babies will grow and will need space to run and play in just a few short weeks.
