URGENT CALL TO ACTION - Bruce Rotz violated NY anti-horse-slaughter law - Join Animals' Angels complaint to finally hold this large scale kill buyer accountable!

On December 13, 2023, New York Governor Kathy Hochul signed bills A5109/S2163B into law, banning the slaughter of horses throughout the state and making it illegal for any entity to transport horses in or through the state of New York if the horses are intended to be slaughtered for human or animal consumption. The law went into effect in April of 2024.

Animals' Angels has found proof that between April and September 2024, Rotz shipped over 200 horses to slaughter in Canada, using the Champlain border crossing in New York. We have provided this evidence to the NY Attorney General and the NY Commissioner of AG, asking them to launch an official investigation into the matter. Rotz’s business could face a penalty of $2,500 for each horse he transported to slaughter, which means he could be facing fines totaling $500,000 or more for these violations.

A man rescues a horse from a kill truck for $200, unaware that he has just acquired a three-time champion.

The story of Raven, a horse once facing a grim fate on a kill truck, is one of victory and renewal. Drew Boies, an amateur roper and farrier, was drawn to Raven's distinctive grulla coat and recognized her potential despite her frail condition. Abandoned by a breeder who could no longer care for her, Boies perceived a unique spirit within Raven.

He spent $200 to buy the yearling and committed himself to restoring her health and spirit. By the age of three, Raven began her training, and by 2016, she had impressively secured the title of three-time Congress Champion, competing under the name Ravens Silver Angel.

The Boies family eagerly anticipates future competitions for their champion and has already initiated discussions regarding Raven's well-deserved retirement. "Of course, she will retire with us at home and eventually bless us with some beautiful foals," Victoria stated.

Raven's story highlights the urgent need to end unnecessary horse slaughter in the United States. According to the Humane Society, "over 100,000 horses are slaughtered each year, many of which could be rehomed; not every horse destined for slaughter needs to be rescued."

With proper care in their natural environments, horses in the United States can lead fulfilling lives. The Humane Society's website underscores that the solution for horses at risk of homelessness lies in curbing excessive breeding, educating owners about alternative rehoming options, and improving adoption initiatives.

It is highly probable that horses like Raven are eager for a second chance at life. Victoria expressed her admiration, stating, "She is an exceptional mare who always gives her best. We feel incredibly fortunate to have her in our lives."
