Our Story
The Black Cat road race was at first designed with intent to provide a training race that would attract marathon runners especially those training for the Boston Marathon. Being 20min North of Boston, there was no longer distance race in close proximity to the Boston area, so there the Black Cat Sprung. It wasn't until later the event spiraled into not only a 20miler, but a 10miler as well. For many non-marathon runners, the 10mile option provided a much needed winter goal to dust off the sneakers and start the spring race season with a bang!
Course Details:
The 20 mile course is a two loop run with a few rolling hills, some good down hills and gorgeous scenic views. The event starts on Hawthorne Blvd. in front of the Hawthorne Hotel and takes runners through the Historic Streets of Salem, up and through scenic Marblehead and back into downtown Salem.
This event benefits Allie Castner of Marblehead who was tragically struck and killed by a car as she was crossing the street in her hometown, Marblehead, Massachusetts. Allie touched and enriched so many lives. It is through the Allie Castner Scholarship Fund that Allie will live on, providing other young high school students with the opportunity to benefit while representing the honor, integrity and purpose with which Allie celebrated each and every day: Loving, Living & Learning.
