With CPDT-KA & ABCDT DOG TRAINING CERTIFICATIONS, The Social Dog provides professional services in and around Rowan County, North Carolina! Types of training offered include puppy manners & house training, basic obedience, socialization, loose-leash walking, addressing behavioral issues, scent tracking for fun, alleviating fear aggression, as well as preparation classes for AKC Star Puppy, AKC K9

Good Citizen, and Therapy Dog Certification evaluations. With years of experience working with shelter dogs, as well as completion of the Fear Free Shelter Program training, it is our passion to train rescues & their people to live their best lives together! Training plans are customized for individual dog's needs. Support is also available outside of training sessions to answer questions that pop up along the way. We'd love to help you and your best dog(s) with whatever training needs you might have! DISCOUNTED SERVICES available for senior citizens, teachers, law enforcement, veterans, and folks who have rescued from a county shelter or registered organization!

We sound like a broken record at this point but the dogs just keep flooding in! We really need the communities help in getting some of these kennels cleared out to make room for the other animals who need to come into the facility! If you have space to add to your family come out to the shelter to meet some of these AMAZING dogs! Can't add to your family right now, but want to help, SHARE this post! Our dog kennels are FULL again! We have had an influx of strays enter the facility and we can not house them all! We need your help in getting these sweet dogs ADOPTED!

Looking for a way to get your business involved in Meals on Wheels? We have several flexible volunteer opportunities and ways to give back that fit your busy schedule.

One of our business partners, The Social Dog, helps pick up, pack, and distribute food to our participants and their pets! Thanks to our friends like The Social Dog, we can deliver pet food every two weeks to our participants with their meals.

Did you know that when dogs use their nose hunting, they expend a TON of energy and it really tires them out in a relatively short period of time?!

Benelli is a a Labrador that just turned 2 years old. He has ALL the energy! However, 10-15 minutes of “hunting” play wears him out!
“Find it” is one of his all time favorite games to play! After putting pheasant scent (see what we use in comments) on a green rag (dogs can’t see green, so no cheating!) it is hidden in the yard. Sometimes in low branches of the shrubs! HE LOVES IT! It is so good for his busy mind!

If you’ve got a busy-minded pup with extra energy, but not always a lot of time to spend everyday walking them, we’d love to help!
This game is relatively easy to teach and so worth it on the days you’re running short on time to play!

Thanks to Samantha Evitt Smith for teaching us how to teach others!

P.S. Benee knows to finish the game, he has to BRING the pheasant back. This video was his fourth round of play, so he was already getting tired. See the second video in comments where he crossed the finish line! Good Boi Benelli!!

Congratulations to this girl!
Heidi finished her Therapy Dog Training this month and PASSED her evaluation this morning with flying colors! She is now a Certified Therapy Dog and will soon be visiting schools & senior citizen facilities with her handler! 🎉🐾❤️

We wish our project would have been a success, but it wasn’t in the hand we were dealt. However, we are happy to throw our support behind this public event.

Author Christina Barenburg, who published the book Second Chance is going to have a book signing at our new dog wing today. Her book is about the dog she rescued from the shelter! Sunday Funday plans!

This Sunday!!

Come by the brewery for our first ever Local Artisan Pop-Up Market.

This is something we want to hold several times a month during the Fall, but wanted to give it a trial run.

We have several vendors lined up, live music by Jon Linker and the Waffle Chick food truck!

Stay tuned as we hope to really grow this event. So, please come out and show your support.

We've been chasing this "Dog Hangout Spot" dream for a long time. We are sorry to say that we're finally giving up. Not for a lack of trying, research, learning, flexibility, or investment (time & money). It's just not meant to be. -In Salisbury or Rowan County anyway.

Those of you who have been with us since the beginning remember the Dog Pub goal right? We held on tight to that for 2 years through multiple lease agreement disappointments until we realized we'd be better off on our own! "If you build it, then they will come" kinda thinking! So exciting! Nope.

Even WEIRDER things happened. Like offering over asking price for a property, only for the buyers to change their mind and NOT SELL. And MORE things like that!

Then in December 2022, we found the best spot in Salisbury! We consulted the city regarding our plans for the property before buying, and got blessings to move ahead! So exciting! Nope.

Here we are almost NINE months later. Again, we did all the things. Research, learn, spend... Hired professionals. Plan appropriately. Built a construction entrance. Demolished an abandoned house. Capped an open 30' water well. Cleared the lot of scrub trees. -All while waiting to get the go ahead from the city. Like where we could put a parking lot and fence?

As of last Friday, 8/18, we still had no clear guidance on how we might proceed. Might it have been coming this week and we just quit too soon? Maybe. But it's nearly September. Enough is enough.

Tapping out is disappointing. BUT WE ARE CHOOSING TO FOCUS ON THE GOOD STUFF WE PICKED UP ALONG THE ROAD. Like exposure to some wonderfully positive, cheerleading individuals in the community (you know who you are)❤️ many of whom have graciously promoted us on social media personally, as well as through their own businesses. Thank you ALL.

The Social Dog WILL survive.

We love training dogs and plan to keep doing it! We love to support the causes that mean so much to us: dogs, seniors, teachers, veterans, and law enforcement and WILL find ways to do that too. We wish we could have hosted y'all at our park, but fate has other things... Right?!

Dolly (just turned 1 yr old) & her Dog Dad Allen are ROCKSTARS! Dolly is not only a super smart girl, but typically likes to do her own thing when she feels like it.

Allen has been working on basic obedience with Dolly, practicing in short sessions at home daily.
His consistency is KEY! 🎉

Dolly was working on the command “Look” today. Once she has it down, it’ll go a long way in refocusing her if/when distractions pop up! Pay attention to Allen’s PATIENCE allowing Dolly the time think & learn.

Also notice he’s using a ball rather than a treat! You can/should always mix up your bag of rewards for good work, so dogs don’t resort to waiting to be bribed with food before listening.

Well done Allen & Dolly! WELL DONE! ✅🐾🏆

Our board is FULL! All the dogs seen here are available for adoption. This Board does not include the 7 puppies also available because we just simply could not fit anymore. The shelter is full and we need your help. Do you have room for another member of the family??? ALL three pups LOVE chasing the ball, but since Benelli is bottom of the totem pole in dog rank, he never actually gets to get the ball when matched against his sisters. Heidi just got her doctor’s release this week to do some leash walking! 🎉 Once you get to know this girl, you’ll realize just how much SHE LOVES LIFE! Running, zigzagging, juking her pursuers…ALL JOYS, SKILLS & BLESSINGS THIS GIRL CLEARLY DOESN’T TAKE FOR GRANTED! Once we are up and running ourselves, in addition to our Dog Memberships, we will be offering Human Only Memberships for those folks who LOVE DOGS, but might not be in a position to have a dog of their own right now. Watching joyful dogs play is something that truly lifts & heals the soul! We want to share the 🐾 JOY!
