A long walk, a good brush, and a tasty treat = a happy boy!

When you think about getting that cute, fluffy husky or malamute remember this photo.
One day they’ll still be insanely cute but also VERY hairy. Wispy, floating hairs e v e r y w h e r e. 🙃 At minimum he is brushed 2x per week after walks & I wear just as much of his hair home that I throw away.

Happy HOWL-O-Ween! 🐕🦴

Borrowed this cute idea from a fellow dog owner on IG & put the Soul Mutts twist on it!

Spooky Ghost Pup Pops 👻
-Banana: cut in half diagonally 🔪
-The Honest Kitchen Cod Ocean Chews. These are big chews so I cut 1 into 6 for the number of pops I am making. Insert into the bottom of the banana. 🐟
-Nonfat Green Yogurt: you can dip but I found using a spoon easier.
-2 Carob Chips for the “eyes” per pop. You can also use your dogs kibble. 👀
-Freeze 🥶

THEN share w/ your pup + take cute photos. I’ll share our photos later today of the pups who enjoyed this creation. 🎃👻💀 📸

Behind The Leash: Bruno

This week I’ll cover why my regulars hired a dog walker & where we are now.

Bruno - a lovable Rottweiler mix & one of my “OG clients”. His owners were referred to me by his trainer. We started together at nearly the start of Soul Mutts & he was around a little over 1 year old.

Problem: Bruno was eating the drywall, cabinets, and once the sofa while left alone during the adolescence period. 😬

Why?: Bruno was bored for the traditional work day period so he was finding his own ways to keep himself entertained.

Solution for an intact household: Hire a dog walker who can handle a strong dog to get him out of the house. We started w/ 5 days a week then it was trial & error to see what amount of downtime he could handle. Slowly he stopped destroying the house between walks & being left w/ appropriate things to chew on. His owners have always been receptive to my suggestions for him. A win for us all! 👍 🐾

Where we are now: Bruno will turn 6 in December. It’s hard to believe we’ve spent nearly 5 years walking together every week. We’ve experienced every season & grown up together essentially over these years. From park days, to making dog friends, and even mini training session refreshers plus learning some new things, he is a GOOD DOG who needed a little extra help in his life. 🐾 🐶

Behind The Leash: This week I’ll be running a behind the scenes for you all. A glimpse into the life of a dog walker & her regulars.

I realized something the other day. I haven’t done a formal “about me” since 2018! I’ve been having too much fun with the dogs. 🐾 I’ll kickstart the week so all the new followers can get to know me.

My name is Tracey. I am a dedicated professional dog walker with a passion for our four-legged companions. I shifted my focus from pharmaceuticals in 2018 to focus on pet care. Like most dog owners I had my own personal struggles balancing work, everything that comes w/ being an adult, and ensuring my own pets had physically + mentally enriching lives. Soul Mutts was born as a solution to this problem! Some days or seasons life doesn’t allow us to walk our dogs. I’m here to help resolve the “dog owner guilt”. Between “sniffaris” and “brain games” I like to ensure my clients experience a wide range of enrichment.

When I’m not with my clients, you’ll find me with my own pack of 4 🐶 , the Muttley Krew, + 1 🐱 who thinks he is an honorary dog. We won’t tell him any different. Rescue/Shelter dogs are my other love. I’ve been a foster caregiver for a decade. I’m a nature enthusiast, self proclaimed coffee connoisseur, lover of thrifting, books, and am always at the ready to present a pun or dad joke to brighten the day.

A new journey in my life started earlier this year when I began interning w/ a certified professional dog trainer to work towards earning contact hours for CPDT-KA. (Certified Professional Dog Trainer-Knowledge Assessed). Not only does this allow me to handle dogs more effectively but it also allows me to work with clients to have well rounded dogs. I’m in a very engaged season of life as we head into the end of 2023 but I can’t wait to see what the next chapter brings!

I am officially back stateside but use the term “back” loosely. I picked up a few hitchhiking germs on the flight home as a last minute souvenir which has me down for the count this week.
I am thankful for all my understanding clients who have kindly lost me for a 3rd week and look forward to all the happy pups next week!

“Ellie's pathogy results are back. One tumor came back as a low grade level 2, the other was benign. Margins were clean. There is a possibility that more tumors can pop up near surgical site- but we are hoping for the best. Overall good prognosis!

Soul Mutts has 2 Boykins on our client list - BamBam & Gadget.
In 1984, South Carolina Governor Richard W. Riley declared the first of September to be Boykin Spaniel Day, a date that coincides with the beginning of dove 🕊️ hunting season. Besides being excellent flushers and retrievers, Boykins make friendly and enthusiastic family pets. 🐶
