Puppies generally bite for two reasons. One, they are in pain from teething, and two, because they want attention.

For pain, the simplest solution is to give your puppy frozen toys. I personally like to freeze a Kong with peanut butter or almond butter inside. 🥜

When you are petting your puppy, they bite because they want attention. Stop petting your puppy when he bites you. If you keep petting, you are rewarding him. Resume petting after your puppy stops biting.

We use 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 methods to teach your dog to in a calm manner, We do this in baby steps, rewarding each step of the way.

For example, if your dog gets excited when he sees the leash, reward your dog only when he remains calm. If your dog is pulling to get out the door, reward for being calm when wearing the leash while standing at the door.

Thanksgiving is a time for family and friends - but it can also be a very hectic day and stressful for your dog.

Thanksgiving also coincides with an increase in emergency vet visits across the U.S. due to the extra, often unsafe “human” food that dogs end up consuming at this time of year.

Here are some foods that it is safe to feed your dog:
• sweet potatoes, plain
• potatoes, plain
• green beans/carrots/peas, raw or plainly cooked
• turkey meat, plain with no bones or skin
• pumpkin or plain canned pure pumpkin puree

Journaling over a period of weeks or months about your dog’s behavior and training will help you see how it changes and improves over time.📅

It’s easy to see a bad day as a setback in your progress, but it's important to see the bigger picture.

You can also journal your answers to questions such as:
• What was my dog’s behavior like a _____ (year, month, etc.) ago?
• What is my dog’s behavior like this _____ (month, week)?
• How has my dog’s behavior improved?
• What training methods have been working with my dog?
• How can I appreciate my dog more?
• How can I express gratitude towards my dog and the progress that we have made together?

Bradley came to me with a hyper border collie named Leo. Because he started training so young, we were able to channel his puppy’s energy into commands and learning instead of destruction.

He loved how Leo learned how to respond so well to sit, down and target. Target was one his favorites. Target is getting your dog to touch your hand on command.

Bradley used Target with Leo to do the following:
• Move his dog into an exact position instead of having to grab his collar
• Teach Leo to follow him during leash walks
• Redirect Leo off of smells and get his attention

Our dog training course fun, and both Bradley and Leo enjoyed the positive reinforcement training experience.

When COVID hit, I became an expert with live online dog training through Zoom.

I learned from other professional dog trainers that give great value online. I took courses to fine tune my online dog training skills.

You know you’re a dog parent if your hobbies include... always saying “Leave it.”

"Leave it" is one of the commands that we teach in our Elementary Obedience Course.

We also teach Sit, Down, Stay, Come, and more.... that will make life easier for both of you!

Your dog can start training as young as 8 weeks old. Once their eyes are open and they are walking, they are learning. Puppies are like sponges, so seize the moment to train your puppy when he/she is young.

Here are some tips to make it enjoyable for both of you:
• Plan your route. Some parks are larger or more rugged; choose trails that match your dog’s fitness, age, and comfort.
• Bring enough water for both of you. 💦
• Be sure to bag your dog’s waste
• Be prepared to leash your dog. (BTW - Utah State Parks have a rule that dogs "must be kept on a maximum 6-foot leash at all times, and not left unattended.")
• Be courteous of other hikers. And their dogs.
• Respect wildlife 🦌
• Enjoy your time together!

Is your dog trying to walk you? There are many tools to help with loose leash walking. We recommend tools that are gentle on your dog.

Purchase a Freedom Harness or a Pet Safe Easy Walk Front Hook Harness. When the leash is hooked on the front of your dog, It is harder for them to pull.

Are you stressed about your dog not listening to you?

Let’s teach you a secret that will get your dog to listen to you quickly.

Focus on what is going “right” in your relationship with your dog. Stop yourself when you feel the urge to say “no.”

Get rid of that negative mindset.

Instead, take a deep breath. Get your clicker and treats out. Begin to focus on what your dog is doing right and reward that instead.

Your dog will love the attention and will start to do more of those “good” behaviors. 😊
