Meet our Employee of the week….Selma and her dog Bon 🐶
Selma is a surgical technician assistant and has been with AVC for over a year now. In her free time she likes to hike, read, spend time with her dog and discover new places or TV shows. If Bon had a job, it would be a Forest Ranger. Her favorite memory of Bon was when he got the zoomies during the first snowfall where he ran around the park and Selma threw snowballs for him to catch ☃️She loves to hang out with her friends and family and has a love for trying new things. She enjoys cooking, thrifting books and painting. What she loves most about veterinary medicine is her love for animals, science, and the desire to be there for them when they need her the most. Please help me in giving her a warm welcome and a big thank you for being a vital part of our AVC family!

🐾 Calling All Hero Dogs! 🐾

Did you know that your dog could be a lifesaver? 🩸❤️ We are in need of canine blood donors to help save the lives of other dogs in need of critical care. From trauma and surgery to cancer treatments, blood transfusions are often the difference between life and death.

If your dog is healthy, between 1-9 years old, and weighs 45 pounds or more, they may be the perfect candidate to donate! Donating is safe, simple, and can make an incredible difference in the lives of other pets.

🌟 Why Donate?
Save lives: Blood donations can help dogs recovering from surgery, illness, or injury.

Support local shelters: Donors help us maintain an emergency blood bank for animals in need.

Your dog’s gift will keep on giving: Every donation can save up to 4 lives!

Interested in becoming a Canine Blood Donor Hero? 🐕✨ Reach out to Lindsay at Advanced Veterinary Care to learn more about how your dog can make a lifesaving impact today.
Together, we can give the gift of life. 💉🩸

Thanksgiving Treats or Trouble? 🦃🐾
Thanksgiving is a time to be grateful, but it’s also a time to be cautious with our furry friends! It’s tempting to share your feast with your pets, but some holiday foods can be harmful or toxic to them. When in doubt, keep it out of their bowl!

A happy, healthy pet is something to be thankful for! 🧡
Enjoy the holiday and keep your pets safe.

Cancer is the abnormal and uncontrolled growth of tissue. Did you know that about 1 in 4 dogs will at some stage in their life, develop cancer, with almost half of dogs over the age of 10 developing cancer. Dogs get cancer at roughly the same rate as humans, whereas it affects about 1 in 5 cats. Unfortunately, the cause of most cancers are not known so prevention can be difficult.

Early detection and subsequent treatments are the best ways to manage cancer. Since November is cancer awareness month it’s important to watch for possible signs and/or symptoms in your pets. They may include:

Weight loss
Lethargy or depression
Bleeding or discharge
Appetite changes
Persistent limping
Bumps, lumps or abnormal swellings
Distended abdomen
Non healing wounds
Bad/Foul odors
Hesitation to play or decrease in stamina
Difficulty breathing or going to the bathroom

The diagnosis and treatment of cancer in dogs and cats is similar to that of human patients and includes surgery, radiation, chemotherapy and immunotherapy. Thanks to our peers whom we look to for advancements and top of the line treatment at places such as Flint Animal Cancer Center, CSU who provided the above information and picture.

Pets are living longer due to advances in medicine along with an emphasis on better nutrition and preventative care. Give your furry friends the best possible chance at life. If you notice any of the above signs don’t hesitate to reach out to our oncology team here at AVC. Your pets health and your satisfaction are our primary concerns. 🐾❤️‍🩹🐶🐱

The owner was so kind and went out of her way to create and customize a very yummy smelling candle for the oncology department! She gave a shout out to each AVC team member that helped her and Max throughout the whole process!
