Although we still get them discounted, we need $1000 for enough Bravecto for each pup to be safe from fleas for 3 months… can you help us?

We have a fundraiser running, though it takes about 45 days to receive those funds. We also have donation links in the bio!

Sir Coco was examined and they will be removing 12-13 growths on September 13th!

That’s the day after his birthday so he will celebrate turning 15 right before he goes in! His birthday wish is to have his surgery covered so he doesn’t have to feel so uncomfortable in his senior years.

Fortunately his surgery is not going to be excessive, it will only cost $200, with blood work! That’s an amazing price and it’s purely thanks to Rach Veterinary Clinic making things affordable for the animals in this area of Texas.

Sir Coco had surgery to remove a growth that had burst open in 2021. Unfortunately, as we were told might happen, he now has about 13-15, and several are now open and weeping. This puts him at risk for infections, especially staph infections.

He is going in to see Dr. Rach today, and get put on the surgery schedule to have them ALL removed.

Today’s visit will likely be around $50, unless bloodwork is needed, which could push it higher. My dream is to have a little amount on file at Dr. Rach’s so I can take him in without trying to figure out the cost!

If you can help, they are open to take donation call ins at (409) 787-2113, between 230pm and 5pm CST. They are hard to reach due to sheer volume of calls, but please keep trying!

Instagram fundraising will be very helpful, but please keep in mind it takes 45 days to receive those donations, so they will not make it in time for todays visit, or for surgery, though we appreciate any donations, in any form!

In order to travel states, each pup will need a health certificate, which means each pup needs a new wellness package!

Siri also needs to be spayed, as she has physically recovered from losing her baby, and we will prevent her from experiencing any more trauma.

Each wellness package is $65 and you will receive a digital certificate with pictures of your pup, thanking you for caring for the VF pups!

Hi all!

Let me (re) introduce myself! I’m Hailey James, formerly part of a large Texas rescue, finally ready to relaunch the VF Rescue & Sanctuary!

It’s going to take time to go through my backstory, and the story of the 16 pups who are already a part of this rescue. So stay tuned!

Things are moving! The 501c3 application was completed today! Per the IRS, they are processing applications from May, but the average time on the website says 22 days to process so….

We need all fingers and paws crossed that all goes well (and I didn’t mess up anything on the application!) and hopefully we will have good news soon!

First step. We needed to find a van for the trip and future efforts. Who knew they had gotten so expensive? Cheapest used vans are $3500 and up!

So a very good friend suggested we look at motor homes, and wow the price difference is staggering! We’ve found a few decent ones between $1500 and $2000. That solves not only travel, but a starting point on the land we are looking at for the sanctuary! Which is amazing!

Because we are NOT a 501c3 yet, donations are not tax deductible. That means you can make them, but you can’t write them off at tax time. We hope you’ll consider it a worthy investment anyway!

Adoption Update!

Back when I found Milo running on the streets of San Antonio, a neighbor on the street helped me calm him and get him loaded up. They recently asked if Milo had ever been adopted and I realized y’all are not up to date on the VF pups who came with me these last two years.

So let’s fix that!

Starting with my first adoption, sweet Buddy Lemon aka Chippy () found an amazing home with his friend Neville () in New York!

Unfortunately, Neville passed away last year and just this month, little Chippy followed him over the bridge. It breaks my heart for both sweet boys, and their mama, but I know he couldn’t have gone to a better home as a senior chihuahua where he was given all the love he didn’t have before. Run free sweet boys. You’re so very very missed.

Canada Pups:

Milo was also fortunate because he went to where not only is he living a great life, but his hair has started growing back over his whip scars thanks to the care of his new mama.

Y’all remember Mama, and her 6 pups? Left starving in the garage in San Antonio, Mama ate a couch to save 6 of her 8 babies. All that effort wasn’t wasted as she was actually adopted first and now lives with a brand new baby sister!

Delta, her pup, was the next to go and she was adopted by a very special family who found Delta and their child had an amazing bond. She’s living her best life.

Foxy and Whiskey, bonded sisters were adopted together, however their story is a little less happy ending and a little more cautionary about the difference between rescues, and dog flippers. That’s for another post and at least I can say they are both doing well.

Olaf just headed up to her new home this past week and from all I’ve seen so far is going to be one spoiled pup!

Tango, Echo, and bonded pair Wilma and Spanky have yet to find their perfect home, but they are staying with the VF crew until they do. When I took them in, I promised they would be safe and cared for until that happened, and I stand by that. So they leave Texas with me and head to Arizona! Look for updates and new photos of these beautiful 4 soon!

Big, big news!

And a couple of huge updates, so I’m probably going to split this into a few posts.

Update 1: today I filed to dissolve the VF Rescue & Sanctuary in Texas because… we are bringing the rescue to Arizona!

That’s right, VF Rescue & Sanctuary is coming back to life!

For those who weren’t here, or don’t remember, I went into this with all the enthusiasm I had in me… and very little experience or practical knowledge.

Save the dogs! I said. But then… um… how??

So I did the smartest thing I could have done. I set aside my dreams and went to work in real rescue.

I originally planned on one year, which just shows you I had no idea what I was in store for.

It’s been just over two years now, and it’s time to take everything I learned, the good, the bad, the ugly, and bring my dream to life!

I’m so excited (or terrified, it all feels the same), and it is time.

Fortunately, our EIN will be the same. Unfortunately, because I paused it, I have to start over in the 501c3 application.

What does this mean? That any donations until that’s granted will NOT be tax deductible. I’ll keep everyone up to date on that progress as we go.

But it doesn’t mean anything as far as moving forward. Land is being looked at, plans are being planned.

And we are starting with 16 rescue dogs, some adoptable, some sanctuary. Their stories are coming soon (bring tissue).

All in all it’s been a heartbreaking couple of years, but both I, the dogs, the dream, and the work we will do, is all stronger for it and I am so grateful for everyone who continued to follow us while we were immersed in rescue, and everyone who will join us as we continue to grow and save lives!

Echo here. When we got that medicine I thought we were flea free! What happened???

Echo has just been introduced to East Texas, where the fleas outnumber the people a million times over.

Unfortunately it’s prime flea weather, and Bravecto isn’t as effective here. All the pups will get Bravecto at the beginning of June, until then we need the magic drops. Fortunately Tractor Supply has them and I can run into town. Unfortunately the cost is a bit out of reach.

We need:

2 - Frontline Plus 5-22lb drops
2 - Frontline Plus 23-44lb drops
1 - Frontline Plus 45-88lb drops

Each box is $39.99, plus tax, for a total of 199.95 plus tax. With tax it’s roughly $215-$220.

Mama, Spanky, Wilma and the pups are all going in for Spay/Neuter surgery on June 10th!

All 9 are being microchipped, updated flea medicine, and the 6 young pups are getting their final rounds of shots!

We have a few fundraisers going in different places (and will be posting about all the amazing folks running them soon!), but we will more than likely need a bit more for all of the costs, including transport.

For Mama, Wilma, and Spanky: transport is not needed until someone in Canada falls madly in love with these beauties. So for their final prep needs, we are looking at $150 each. Once transport is needed, they will need $200 additional, each.

Friday to Friday - Funding Fuel and Fighting Fleas - RARE 2:1 Fundraiser - $3000!!!

We have a small group of business people that has pledged to do a Christmas fundraiser for us every year and they saw that we are in very tight straits here in May. They have agreed to free up $2000 (OMG! Yay!) and send it to us early if other donors will donate $1000 between now and next Friday. It seems like a lot, but it's only $50 from 20 people and then we get the $2000!! This would be beyond wonderful and help us stay on mission - honestly, we are really, really in a tight spot and in some danger of falling off our mission curve. We are in the final countdown of the move and I want to thank all of you! The shares, the donations, the food, even (and especially) the cleaning supplies… we are so grateful to you all. You’re amazing and I hope you know how incredibly lucky we are to have all of you keeping the pups in your heart.

We have some really big changes happening with the rescue.

I don’t know if anyone realizes just how hard and heartbreaking rescue is until you’re in it.

We didn’t start easy here. Is there any such thing as “easy” when it comes to the dogs?

Is it ever easy to pick up a dog that someone discarded on the freeway? To save a dog from euthanasia whose only crime was growing old? To lose pups, and always wonder if you could have done more or something different? To have people call/tag/message everyday and ask you to take on more because other people did less?

No, it’s never easy.

I’ve heard that rescue is like the mafia, once you’re in there’s no getting out. I suppose that’s true for me. I’m heartbroken. Tired. Stressed. Dealing with hardships in my own life while still making sure the dogs are priority one. But I’m not quitting.

I am pulling back for awhile though. The dogs (all of us) are pulling up stakes and moving to work with another much larger rescue. I’ll make that announcement later because I want it to be filled with the joy and enthusiasm it deserves.

For now? We need your help. Money doesn’t grow on trees and all of the dogs have needs.

Princess, the Doberman left in a locked cage with no food and water, is going to her fantastic forever home this week, but thanks to car issues, transportation funds are needed.

Milo is coming home and moving with us so transport is needed there.

Food and supplies will still be needed up to and after we move.

Spanky (male) and Wilma (female) are a bonded pair. They will need to be adopted together. Both love humans and are major cuddle bugs.

This sweet girl is a puppy mill survivor. She’s lost babies and been treated like an object instead of the warm, loving, LIVING CREATURE she is. All she wants is to live the rest of her days in a home where she is given cuddles, a warm bed, food and water, and lots of pets. It’s not asking for much!
