The dreaded trailer - oh wait, Rajah loves the trailer!
From the time I got Rajah tame enough to lunge outside the pen, trailer training began. This isnt something I wanted her to be good at for my own convenience. This is something that is ESSENTIAL for every single horse. Very rarely, if ever, are horses going to live their life without needing to be trailered. Trailering alone is stressful enough on the body. (A 5 hour trailer ride can actually cause your horse to lose over 30lbs - stated by the amazing ) Dont make trailering more stressful that it needs to be and PRACTICE with your horses or reach out to a trusted trainer. Dont wait until its a necessity to try and load your horse - be prepared!

“Soft hands do NOT make soft horses.”
This statement may be a little conflicting.
In my opinion, EFFECIENT hands and good timing make a soft horse. Horses do not “like” pressure and are going to usually pick up on what lets them catch a break pretty quickly.
Softness takes time - like every other aspect of training. So you cant expect to jump on your c**t for the 5th ride and have a soft responsive horse. But being FAIR in what you are asking and firm in HOW you ask will put the horse on the right track.
Notice that fair and firm go hand in hand. One without the other will just lead to frustration on both ends. Training really is based in balance. ⚖️

💨Meet Smokey💨
🐴2017 GRADE mare
📏She stands 14.3hh and is a TANK
💪🏼This mare has seen alot through 20 mile trail rides, roping in the pastures, pushing cattle, going in the roping pen (has headed and heeled), has been ridden bridleless, and done great with arena work. She is GREAT on the ground, has had bunches of kids all lovin on her with no issues. Great for farrier - goes well shod or barefoot.
❤️Smokey is a great all around mare but would do best with an experienced rider.
📍She is currently located in Boerne, TX. Can help arrange shipping as well.

Something I have really come to love within my past year diving into training is body control. Mastering body control on the ground is like learning the ABCs before reading a novel. It's the foundation that paves the way for effective communication when started under saddle. By teaching the horse to move different parts of its body on the ground, you're laying the groundwork for a smoother, and more enjoyable, ride when you're in the saddle. The horse has a basic knowledge of your cues, creating a more efficient, and less stressful training experience in the saddle for both parties.
I know, it sounds like just another thing to spend countless time on but by investing time in teaching body control and movement on the ground, you're not just doing groundwork. You are creating a solid foundation to build upon when starting your horse undersaddle.
