A Pet's Choice Veterinary Care

A Pet's Choice Veterinary Care At A Pet's Choice Veterinary Care, we offer primary care for cats and dogs in the greater San Antonio area. We look forward to meeting your pet care needs!
(90)

We also provide surgical services, dental care, internal medicine, and advanced diagnostics. At A Pet's Choice Veterinary Care (previously Affordable Pet Care Basse), our veterinary clinic team tries to treat you the way we would want to be treated. We want pet care to be as affordable as possible. Here are just a few examples of how we try to make that possible:

* We do not require that you have

to see the doctor if your pet is healthy and just needs vaccinations as long as they have a current annual exam (If any pet seems unhealthy we reserve the right to withhold vaccinations and will recommend an examination and/or other services)

Our slogan/motto at A Pet's Choice Veterinary Care is “Caring Makes the Difference”, and we aspire to reflect that on the people that matter the most – YOU, the client. Pets are brought to us because of concern and love. We strive to offer our services and products at competitive prices consistent with good medicine. We want to provide good clinical judgment and practical options for our clients. If we can’t provide the kind of care you may need or request, we will gladly refer you to another animal hospital of your choice or to a board-certified specialist. We want our clients to have the best care they are comfortable with and can afford. We not only want to help keep your pet healthy, we want to bond with our clients as we would our friends. We want to create each client relationship on an individual basis and show you that “caring makes the difference”.

Keep Your Pets Safe During Treat Season

Holidays are filled with sweets and treats, but remember—what’s fun for us can be dangerous for our pets! Chocolate is one of the most common hazards, especially around Halloween, Valentine’s Day, and Christmas. Even a small amount can be toxic to dogs and cats, so it’s crucial to keep all chocolate safely stored away.

If you’re hosting guests, remind them not to share human treats with your pets, no matter how convincing those puppy-dog eyes might be! Instead, stock up on pet-safe snacks so your furry friends can join in the celebration safely.

Let’s make every holiday a happy and healthy one for the entire family—pets included.

🎃 Happy Howl-o-ween from A Pet’s Choice Animal Hospital ! 🐾

Halloween is all about treats and tricks, but let’s make sure it’s a safe celebration for everyone – humans and pets alike! Here are some tips to keep your furry friends safe and your holiday full of fun:

👻 No Tricks with Treats! Keep the candy out of paw’s reach – chocolate and sweeteners like xylitol can be dangerous for pets.

🎃 Costumes with Care: Make sure your pet’s costume is comfortable and doesn’t restrict their movement, vision, or breathing. If they’re happier without it, a festive collar or bandana is a perfect alternative!

🕯️ Decor with Caution: Curious noses + candles or cords = possible accidents! Opt for battery-operated candles in your jack-o’-lanterns to keep things spooky and safe.

🍬 Stranger Danger: Some pets may be spooked by all the new faces in costumes. Consider setting up a cozy, quiet space for them to retreat to during trick-or-treat time. Making sure your pets microchip information is also up to date is very important in case our furry friends accidentally run out of the house.

Wishing you and your pets a safe and “spook-tacular” Halloween! 🎃🧡 Share your pet’s costume pics with us!

Daily Bowl Care = Long-Term Pet Health!

Did you know bacteria in dirty bowls can lead to dental issues in pets? 🦷 Unclean bowls can contribute to plaque build-up and bad breath in both dogs and cats. By washing their bowls every day, you’re not just protecting their health but helping to keep their smiles bright! 😁✨

Kidney (or renal) disease is very common in dogs and cats, and it may be reversible or permanent based on underlying causes. The disease could be a result of age-related changes to the kidneys, acute injury or toxin ingestion, congenital defects present from birth, or in rare cases, a side effect of some medications. To prevent kidney disease or slow its progression, it's vital to stay regular with wellness visits so that together, we can monitor renal levels with blood work and urinalysis and catch any changes ASAP.

We get it: when your pet is itchy, you start to scratch, too! The good news is your pet doesn’t have to live with incessant itchiness. Learn to spot the signs, then book a visit so that together, we can discover the cause and explore options for long-lasting relief, like:

Cyptopoint®: an injectable therapy that provides 4 to 8 weeks of allergy relief with a single in-office dose. ¹ Plus, for a limited time, get $25 off when you buy 2 doses of Cytopoint. ²

Or Apoquel®: an oral medicine that can be given at home for fast relief of allergic itch.³
