Help Keep Families Together. Pet Food Donations Needed! 🐾

We are seeking donations of unopened dog and cat food to support families in need. Your generous donation can help keep pets with the families who love them and reduce the number of animals entering our shelter. 💕🐕🐈

Help us work to ensure no pet goes hungry. Donations can be sent to or dropped off at ACS, located at 4710 State HWY 151 during our open hours.

Together, we can keep pets in loving homes and strengthen the bond between families and their furry friends. 💙

Last week, our Animal Care Officers received a rather unexpected call—a stray donkey was spotted wandering around town! When they arrived, they found that an SAPD officer had already hee-hawed into action, securing the adorable donkey (who we later named Eeyore) to a nearby pole. Our Animal Care Officers offered Eeyore some water then transported him to ACS for additional care.

Once at ACS, Eeyore quickly became the mane attraction. This lovable guy enjoyed all the affection we could give (and trust us, he wasn’t shy about hee-hawing when he wanted more)! We kept his spirits high with plenty of enrichment activities, including equine toys and even a special donkey popsicle filled with yummy veggies and treats! 🍦🥕

We’re thrilled to report that Eeyore has now trotted off to greener pastures—he’s been transferred to the loving care of one of our equine rescue partners, Triple Me Mac Equine Sanctuary. 🐾

A big THANK YOU to Triple Me Mac Equine Sanctuary for helping us help animals like Eeyore in their journey to finding loving homes. Remember, if you spot an animal in need, please make a report by dialing 3-1-1. Together, we can help turn every tail into a happy one!

Ready to make a friend of a lifetime? Meet today’s playgroup pals!

These four adorable pups had a blast during our recent playgroup session—one of the many forms of enrichment our trainers conduct throughout the week. Playgroup helps dogs like Annie, Blanco, Wilfred, and Zelda socialize with one another and enjoy some time outside, making new friends (both canine and human)! 🐶💕

Annie started off a bit timid, but she slowly opened up as she spent time in playgroup. She’s a gentle soul who loves affection and is ready to find her forever home. 💜

Blanco is a handsome floof who had the time of his life running around and making friends with everyone in playgroup. He’s full of energy and would make a great addition to any family! 🐾

Wilfred and Zelda are two peas in a pod! These playful pals loved chasing each other around the yard and splashing in the pool. They both enjoy hanging out with other pups and people and are looking for a family to share their fun-loving spirits with! 🎾

If you're looking for a new best friend, consider adopting or fostering Annie, Blanco, Wilfred, or Zelda! Visit our shelter to meet them today!🏡❤️

Chato’s journey began at just 14 weeks old when he was brought into ACS, a tiny, fluffy puppy facing a big battle. When he arrived, Chato was unable to move and was very ill, his future uncertain. But where some might see a challenge, our dedicated clinic staff saw hope. One incredible staff member decided to foster him, providing round-the-clock care for this little fighter. With time, endless love, and unwavering patience, she nursed Chato back to health.

Day by day, Chato grew stronger. His once fragile frame blossomed into that of a fun, vivacious puppy. He started to wag his tail, explore his surroundings, and embrace the world with the joy only a puppy can bring.

Now, Chato has found his forever home with Ms. R and her family, where he continues to spread happiness every day. His journey from a sickly puppy to a lively, healthy companion is a beautiful reminder that with love and care, anything is possible.

Thanks to the tireless efforts of our clinic staff and the loving embrace of his new family, Chato is living his best life—a life filled with love, joy, and boundless energy.

You see how I take treats? Very demure. Very cutesy. Hi, I’m Waffle!

You see how I sit politely for my photo shoot? It’s because I’m very mindful. Imagine how great I will be in a home where I have routine, structure, and loving humans to show me the ropes.

At 5 months young, I’m eager to learn and love. I love making my humans smile, and I’m always ready to show off my new skills for a bit of praise (or a snack)! 😋 If you're looking for a sweet, smart, charming and demure companion, I’m your guy! Let’s create some amazing memories together. 💖

Will you be the one to give me a forever home? Visit me at ACS today and see just how cutesy I am! 🐶

The three husketeers are finally back with their loving family! 🤗

Last Wednesday, the three adventurous pups, whose real names are Misty, MJ, and Cinnamon, wandered into the ACS parking lot. Our team quickly stepped in and guided them to safety.

When Mr. V noticed his beloved pets were missing, he suspected they might have found their way to ACS. A quick search on our website confirmed his hunch when he spotted MJ’s photo. Knowing the rest would likely be here too, he came to ACS to begin the reclaim process.

The whole family is overjoyed to be reunited! As Mr. V put it, “My pups are my family, and there is nothing you wouldn’t do for family.” 💕

🐾 Winnie here, sweet as a honey bee and ready to make a new furiend! 🐾

I was found wandering a local San Antonio neighborhood in late April, looking for a family who could be mine. Some kind neighbors saw I needed help, and I ended up at ACS, where my wonderful foster mom, Ms. F, took me in and gave me the love and care I needed. Now, I need a furever family to call my own!

I absolutely adore cuddling and playing with my foster siblings, and I get along great with kids. I've even made friends with a few cats! I'm a quick learner and know how to sit, come when called, and walk nicely on a leash.

My foster mom's favorite part about having me around is how affectionate I am with her and my foster siblings. I have a big heart full of love, and I can't wait to find my forever home where I can share all my cuddles and sweetness. If you're looking for a loyal, playful, and loving companion, I might just be the perfect fit for you! 🐶❤️ Email [email protected] so we can meet!

Happily ever afters do exist, and Cinnamon is proof of that!

We are thrilled to announce an exciting update on Cinnamon! After arriving at ACS in March with severe wounds, Cinnamon's story took a wonderful turn last month when she was transferred to the care of our amazing partners at the Footbridge Foundation.

Under the Footbridge Foundation's care, Cinnamon continued to thrive and blossom in foster care, capturing the hearts of everyone she met. Her happy ending came last week when she found her forever home with a loving family who saw her for the beautiful soul she is.

Cinnamon now enjoys a life full of love, joy, and endless playtime, living the beautiful, happy life she was always meant to have. Thank you, Footbridge Foundation, for helping make Cinnamon's dream come true!

Sweet Panchito was found early last month by a caring resident who reported his injuries. At just 3 years old, Pancho has endured more than his fair share of hardships. His scars tell a story of fending for himself.

When Panchito arrived at ACS, we discovered he had suffered an injury that caused him to drag his back leg. Despite this challenge, Panchito never stopped fighting to recover. He is now able to do all the things a cat loves to do. Panchito’s journey has revealed his sweetness and resilience, and he’s now ready to share his love with a family who will cherish him. This sweet boy is ready to meet you today, we are open until 5:00 pm.

As the school year kicks off, our shelter’s team is busy working to give each pet gets the individualized attention they need to find their perfect match. Our trainers, like Andy, work with our pets to help them feel comfortable and confident in their journey to a new home.

Bob, a large and gentle dog, quickly showed his love for treats and affection. Sadie, initially shy, warmed up to affection with a little patience and a few tasty snacks. Daisy and Destiny, a pair of small pups, were timid and overwhelmed in their current situation. After some kind words and treats from Andy, they seemed more open to the idea of human companionship, though they’re still on the shy side.

As you check off your back-to-school list, don’t forget to add a new furry study buddy! These pets, along with many others, are looking for loving families.

You can sign up to be their foster hero by visiting saacs.info/foster 🍎🐶

Duke’s story began with a promise—a promise of companionship to an elderly couple who welcomed him into their home with open arms. A friend had assured them that Duke wouldn’t grow too big, making him the perfect addition to their quiet household. But Duke had other plans! As weeks turned into months, the once-small pup blossomed into a magnificent 87-pound bundle of joy.

Despite his size, Duke remained gentle and loving, never forgetting the kindness of the couple who cared for him. However, as Duke grew, it became clear that his playful energy and need for space were more than his elderly guardians could manage. It was with heavy hearts that they made the decision to surrender him, hoping that Duke would find a new home where he could truly thrive.

Now, Duke is on the lookout for his forever family—a place where he can stretch his legs, chase after tennis balls, and enjoy the simple pleasures of being a dog. He’s a social butterfly, getting along well with other dogs and always ready to make new friends. More than anything, Duke longs for a home where he can be showered with the attention and cuddles he so deserves.

If you’re looking for a loyal companion with a heart as big as his paws, Duke is your guy. He’s ready to fill your days with fun, laughter, and endless love. Visit Duke today! 🐾

No matter how dire the circumstances may seem, there’s always hope on the horizon, and that was certainly the case for Paxton and Cupcake. Paxton, a courageous cat, and Cupcake, an adorable ball python, faced the devastating aftermath of a house fire.

Thanks to the swift actions of Animal Care Officer Centeno, these two special friends were rescued just in time and brought to ACS, where they received the medical care they needed.

In the midst of their guardian's own troubles, we were determined to find Paxton and Cupcake a safe place to call home. Thankfully, Ms. R stepped in and offered them the loving care they deserved.

Now, Paxton and Cupcake have settled into their new, safe home, and we’re grateful for the support of everyone who made their happy ending possible. It’s stories like these that remind us of the incredible impact of rescue and the power of community.

Hey there, future best furiend! 🐶👋

I'm Rosie, a 10-month-old pup with the most gigantic, pointy ears you’ve ever seen! Seriously, these ears could pick up radio signals from space. They’re perfect for hearing the crinkle of treat bags and the sweet sound of “Who’s a good girl?”

Though the team here has shown me lots of love, I’m dreaming of a forever home or a loving foster family. Let me tell you a bit about myself: I’m a pro at sitting when asked, especially if there’s a tasty treat involved. And I’ve got good bathroom habits – I know where I’m supposed to do my business.

I’ve met a couple of doggy friends during my stay, and we got along just fine. Plus, I’ve discovered a deep, passionate love for watermelon. 🍉 You have no idea how good that stuff is until you’ve seen me devour a slice with pure joy.

But what I love most? Affection. Cuddles, pets, belly rubs – bring it all on! I’ll happily soak up all the love you can give. Imagine us having fun adventures together – a game of fetch, a walk in the park, or just snuggling up for a movie night. I promise to greet you every day with my biggest, goofiest smile.

So, what do you say? Ready to add a little more love and a lot more ears to your life? Come meet me and see just how perfect we could be together! I can’t wait to find my forever family – maybe it’s you!

Even if you’re not ready for a fur-ever love, we can still hang! Visit me at the shelter and consider signing up to be my foster hero!

After seven long years, a reunion that could melt your heart between Ms. M. and her beloved pup, Indie, has finally happened.🤗 Indie was stolen from his home seven years ago, leaving Ms. M.'s life. But thanks to a kind resident who found Indie roaming the streets and a microchip that never failed, we were able to reunite this special pair.

Ms. M. was both surprised and overjoyed to hear that her long-lost friend had been found. She rushed over, anxious about Indie’s condition after all this time.

To everyone's relief, Indie remained the calm and sweet dog he was before. As Ms. M. walked into the shelter, Indie trotted out with a smile on his face, as if no time had passed at all. The bond between them was as strong as ever, and their reunion was filled with tears of joy and wagging tails.

This touching story remind us of the power of microchips and the incredible impact of community kindness. We’re overjoyed for Indie and Ms. M., who are now back together where they belong.

Free microchip and vaccination services are available every Saturday! For details on our events, visit: saacs.info/events.

After two long years apart, Tupac the pup has finally been reunited with his beloved guardian, Mr. W.

Mr. W shared that he had to go out of town for work and left Tupac in the care of a family member. Unfortunately, Tupac slipped out and went missing! Despite their best efforts, Tupac couldn't be found.

Two long years passed, and Tupac was surrendered by a resident living in the same area Mr. W used to live when Tupac went missing. Despite the time that had passed, Tupac's family never gave up hope and continued searching for him.

What an amazing surprise it was when they saw Tupac's picture posted on our website! They came immediately to pick him up. When Tupac saw his beloved guardian, Mr. W, he felt an overwhelming sense of calm and relief. 🥰

Tupac wouldn’t let anyone else handle him, so Mr. W went to our clinic to assist in microchipping him, ensuring Tupac would never be lost again.

This beautiful reunion is proof of the power of never giving up on your loved ones and the importance of microchipping. Welcome home, Tupac!

Reminder to all – we provide free microchips (and vaccinations) every Saturday! To view our events please visit: saacs.info/events.

In the bustling world of a shelter, it's often the playful puppies and serene seniors who catch one’s eye. But in between, there's a special group that often gets overlooked—middle-aged dogs like our dear Millie.

Millie is a sweet-natured dog who has so much love to give. At her perfect middle age, she balances the best of both worlds: the playful enthusiasm of youth and the calm wisdom of experience. She loves treats and will sit patiently, waiting for her yummy reward with those expressive eyes that will melt your heart. 💕

When in play group, Millie showed her gentle nature by peacefully co-existing with other dogs. She greets everyone she meets with a happy wag of her tail, always ready for pets and play. 🐕❤️

Heartwarming Reminder: Microchips Bring All Pets Home, No Matter the Type!

Heizenberg, the 24-year-old sulcata tortoise decided to take a leisurely stroll to enjoy the rainy weather, possibly trying to cross the road to get to the nearest Shell station! 🐢😆 ️⛽️

A passerby spotted this adventurous slow slogger and promptly called 3-1-1 to report the sighting. That's when our amazing Animal Care Officer Perry and Cadet Sanchez sprang into action. Lucky for Heizenberg, he was transported to ACS, where our officers decided to scan him for a microchip. And guess what? He had one! We were able to locate his guardians, Mr. and Mrs. Hernandez.

Ms. Hernandez shared that Heizenberg has been a beloved family pet for over 10 years. He was microchipped years ago by a specialty veterinary office precisely to prevent him from wandering away and not being able to come back home. 🏡

Heizenberg lives a very happy life with the Hernandez family and shares the home with other pets, including dogs. His story is a heartwarming reminder of the incredible power of microchipping. Regardless of the pet type, microchips help bring our beloved pets back home. ❤️
