Please do not give a pet as a gift unless you are 100% sure the person (the family/household) not only can care for the pet in a healthy and safe way - but do they even want a pet.

Many of the shelters and rescues have deals for adopting pets around the holidays.

However, if you’re not in a position that you’re able to adopt, consider some of the options in the graphic to help out the pets in need.

If you are considering adopting, be sure you match your life style (hours away from home, kids, other pets, exercise level, space, time and of course, budget) with the right pet for you.

Many shelters have smaller animals available for adoption too.
Most will know the temperament, and the specific needs of the animals in their care.

If you’re unsure, it’s great to talk to the staff at the shelter to get their help choosing the best pet for you, your household or other ways you can help out without adopting.
