🐾 September Impact at Sage Compassion for Animals 🐾

In September, we awarded 12 life-saving veterinary care grants totaling $23,379.35, all thanks to YOU, our incredible community of animal lovers.

This month, we helped pets facing urgent medical crises like feline urinary obstructions, pyometra, and broken bones. Because of your compassion, families didn’t have to choose between financial hardship and their beloved pets’ lives.

Pet Obesity Awareness Day 🐶

Did you know over 50% of dogs in the U.S. are overweight? Extra pounds may look cute, but they can shorten your dog’s life and lead to serious health problems like diabetes, arthritis, and heart disease.

Here’s how to check if your dog might be carrying a few too many treats
-- Ribs: You should be able to feel your dog’s ribs without pressing hard.
-- Waistline: Look from above, you should see a gentle waist tuck behind the ribs.
-- Belly: From the side, your dog’s belly should curve up, not hang down.

Keeping your pet at a healthy weight means more years of play, love, and tail wags.

Meet Bella, the Brave Poodle! 💕

At just 7 months old, little Bella had already been through so much. She came to her new family with a limp, and X-rays showed a fractured paw and shoulder. After surgery and weeks of rest, she was finally healing until she began limping again.

💔 Another fracture was found on the same leg. Her family, having already spent their savings on previous surgeries, didn’t know where to turn.

Thanks to the and a grant from Sage Compassion for Animals, Bella received the surgery she needed to walk again.

Today, she’s happy, playful, and thriving, living her best life thanks to our amazing community of animal lovers, donors, and rescue partners. 🐾

🐾 Meet Oreo, a brave 2-year-old Yorkie mix who survived a serious accident. Tragically, he was hit by a car, leaving him with a severe leg fracture and causing him immense pain. His back end was dragging, and surgery was far beyond what his family could afford.

Thanks to a Sage Compassion for Animals grant and the amazing team at East Hills Veterinary Hospital, Oreo received the life-changing surgery he needed a leg amputation and is now pain-free and thriving.

Today, Oreo is back home, full of energy, and enjoying life as a happy, playful dog. His story is a reminder of the resilience of pets and the power of veterinary care, animal rescue, and compassionate pet support. 🐶✨
