HUGE thank you to P**p Magic Dog Waste Professionals for helping me get out of this guy's thickly blanketed driveway this morning!! Thought I could shovel my way out, but I was *soooooo wrong*. With winter weather arriving in the Kansas City area over the next week, here are some pet safety tips from our Animal Services Division designed to help keep pets safe!

During the winter months, if you are concerned about an animal in distress that is outside in Kansas City, MO, you can report it to 311 or use KC Pet Project’s online portal to submit information. Video and photographic documentation of the animal, the location and the surrounding area are very helpful to Animal Services.

Use a few drops of ear cleaner or wipes, exercising caution not to go too deep into your pet's ear canal. Your four-legged friend will thank you for it!

We were playing frisbee in the snow and this boy was energized! Then, as the flakes got bigger and the sounds around us started to fade in the thickening air, his zen mode kicked on and he stopped everything to enjoy the moments.

If only we could all slow ourselves down to enjoy the awe and zen of Mother Nature. ❄️

Our friends at Piney Paws Pet Services said it perfectly...

"What happens if your pet sitter cannot get to your home to care for your pets?

Do you have up to date emergency contact information on file?

Sometimes inclement weather can cause a pet sitter to be unavailable to drive safely to your home to care for your pets. (Icy roads, flooding, etc)

In this event, it’s a good idea to have a neighbor or someone within walking distance who can be contacted to cover the visit.

We will contact you and your backup emergency contact to ask if they can cover that visit instead. We never want to leave your pets without care and we do not want to worry you while you are away so we take care of things like this when they arise."

That's exactly why I get an emergency contact, or two, when starting with new clients. My job is to have a Plan B and C in place for your kiddos for the times when Mother Nature acts up.

Make sure your pet sitter has an eye for detail; that he or she notices things like excessive licking of paws and wary eyes. It's easy to dismiss those details after walking and having treats because grooming is normal. Would your sitter notice when it's not normal? Paying attention to the details is how I discovered Moose's broken dew claw.
