This page features Boxers being networked through the Boxer Rescue Project of SD and cross-posting for other Boxers needing adoption through legitimate rescue groups & shelters. San Diego Boxer Rescue was active for over 17 years, run by Alice Via, who saved the lives of thousands of Boxers, until 2010 when her rescue went inactive. There are two groups, however, in SD County whose main focus is r
escuing Boxers -- The Boxer Rescue Project, with a main focus on networking Boxers for re-homing .. home to home... generally not shelter dogs or strays. Simply photographing, assessing, advertising/networking and assisting in matching Boxers with the right forever family. All Boxers in this group are personally tested, assessed, and evaluated before being networked for re-homing. The second group is called Last Chance at Life Rescue (formerly Boxers 'N Birds) in Oceanside, CA. They are a full-fledged rescue operation with a veterinary affiliation (Mission Animal & Bird Hospital), a kennel/adoption center (Mission Ave. in Oceanside), and a thrift store .. also on Mission Ave. LCAL is an all-breed, cat, and bird rescue, but their main focus is rescuing Boxers, and they generally have 5 or more Boxers in their care at any given time. Most of their focus is taking in animals in danger of euthanasia from local shelters due to time/space and/or medical issues. Due to the downturn in the economy, our kennel facility and foster homes generally run "full" all year long and, sadly, we aren't able to take every Boxer out there. Last Chance At Life Rescue generally takes in sick/injured dogs on death row from local shelters, so if you're looking for a special needs Boxer to rescue, that is the place! Check out their website at www.lastchanceatlife.org. Boxer Rescue Project assists individuals and families with re-homing Boxers, requiring that either you foster or keep your dog until we can find a permanent adopter or foster home, as we do not have a kennel facility. Together, BRP and LCAL work arm-in-arm in trying to help as many Boxers in San Diego County that we can. If you can open your home to being a foster, please contact us! You will help us in saving more lives. We turn down many dogs each week from death row simply because we have no place to put them. If you are having to surrender your Boxer, please e-mail us so that we can try to help. E-mail "[email protected]" for a surrender questionnaire. Please note - we do not take in any dogs with aggression issues whatsoever. If you have an aggressive Boxer, please contact a trainer/behaviorist and/or veterinarian for assistance. You can also e-mail us for the names of trainers who can help manage your dog's aggression.
