Freddie and I had another great day at NASDA Trailing & Locating trial. She qualified in all 4 runs 👍🐾. She made 3 of them look easy, but not this one! With dogs barking on the left and wind blowing in the opposite direction from the hide, keeping Freddie on task was tricky! At this level, the handler knows where the rat is, but cannot face the hide, pull the leash or guide the dog is any way. All we can do is simply follow the dog, hopefully recall from distractions and not run out of time. Oh yeah and not get tangled in that crazy long leash! 🤪. Nerve wracking and fun at the same time! 😎❤️
Freddie and I started a new *thing* today: Trailing and Locating. In short: the dog needs to find a rat, hidden somewhere in the field or urban area. The best part: the judge is calling out when they think the dog found it. Less stress on me (already stressed handler! 🤣). Just have to hold on and not get tangled in the leash!
This was the first time Freddie was tasked with finding a rat. We tried barn hunt when she was a puppy, but she did not quite get the concept. Now, that she understands Scent Work, adding new scent was much easier. I was surprised and impressed at the same time! The NOSE is amazing! Freddie actually qualified in her first trailing & locating and urban locating trials! And we are just warming up 👍😎🐾.
Here’s Freddie yesterday. Only 2 odors, but very tricky room with big widows and sunlight/heat. She did very well with very little multitasking. Good girl!! 👍🐾😎
Who needs to sleep in on Sunday? Not us! We got up early in the morning to beat the heat for the NoseWork practice. Here is Rachel. Big area and her first search off leash. As you can see, she’s cautious but still working! Lots to learn for the handler… 😎🐾
It’s been pretty quiet at Blue Fairy HQ, but I found this video from the 4th of July show and Freddie in action. No competition, just a good practice 👍🐾❤️
Freddie spent yesterday afternoon reconnecting with her sister Alice. She also met Chester - Alice’s housemate and BFF. I’m happy to report that all dogs had a great workout and humans - very quiet evening 🤣🐾❤️
Rachel doing her thing - Scent Work Excellent Containers (practice). She just LOVES it!! ❤️🐾
Here is Bella’s practice earlier in the week. Nose in action 😎🐾❤️
Bella’s interpretation of the infamous “come” command. It works every time and she’s always very pleased with herself. And yes, she loves the treats! 🤣🐾. Senior life is good & off-leash 👍❤️🧚♀️
