Rachel and Freddie had a fun morning at the Urban Good Canine Citizen test. I learnt a while ago that testing 2 dogs at the same time was not a good idea, so today it was Rachel’s day, with Freddie along for the ride. They both did well, with Rachel getting a ribbon and a new title. Good times! 👍🐾❤️

Another fabulous weekend full of nose adventures and ribbons! 🎀🧚‍♀️. Rachel is on her way to get her Excellent Scent Work title in all 4 elements. Fun fact: she was one of only 5 dogs to qualify in exterior search yesterday! One more leg to go! Freddie collected whole lot of ribbons! She finished her overall Advanced SW title and got her fist legs in Excellent Contsiners & Interior elements. There is no stopping her now 🤣🐾👍

Happy 9th Birthday to our St. Patrick Party Pups Poppy, Zelda, Cordi, Emme, Lily, Colin, Floki and Rachel!! 🐾🎂. All pups are doing well and we are grateful to the owners for their love & care ❤️. Happy 9th and many more! 🧚‍♀️🎉

Results are in: Freddie is a CHIC dog. What does it mean you ask? It means we completed all recommended breed-specific health checks and published the results with the OFA.
Hips: Fair
Elbows: Normal
GT: Clear

Getting up at 7am on weekends is not my thing. My girls are also too excited about anything disrupting their beauty sleep at such early hour (weekend or weekday 🤣). But, I gave them no choice! Scent Work weekend trial demands sacrifice! We went, had fun, got ribbons and titles 👍🐾. Im soooo proud of my girls!!
Rachel: Excellent Interior & Buried titles.
Freddie: Advanced Exterior title & 1st leg in Excellent Containers.

Another fabulous weekend at the Palm Springs KC Dog Show in Indio. Freddie and I returned to the show ring - who doesn’t love a dose of cardio in a perfect 75F+ January weather..? 🤣🌴. Freddie got her hips & elbows Xrayed and got the GT test done as part of our pre-breeding evaluations 👍. She finished the weekend with the Novice Trick Dog title - bonus! 🐾🧚‍♀️. I have to admit: she’s a great travel companion with great social skills and fondness for hotel beds. Just like me! 😎

Freddie and I had another great day at NASDA Trailing & Locating trial. She qualified in all 4 runs 👍🐾. She made 3 of them look easy, but not this one! With dogs barking on the left and wind blowing in the opposite direction from the hide, keeping Freddie on task was tricky! At this level, the handler knows where the rat is, but cannot face the hide, pull the leash or guide the dog is any way. All we can do is simply follow the dog, hopefully recall from distractions and not run out of time. Oh yeah and not get tangled in that crazy long leash! 🤪. Nerve wracking and fun at the same time! 😎❤️

Bella’s son Logan spent a whole week with us over Thanksgiving week. He’s such a gentle giant! ❤️🐾 I’m continuously impressed with his great temperament, always happy, full of joy and in love with my truck, in case it’s time for a walk! 🤣. He’s also very conversational, especially if I was gone with the girls for a while. I guess I’m missing having a boy Otterhounds.. 😎🧚‍♀️

Another fabulous weekend with the girls at the Scent Work trials. Rachel continues to work on her excellent qualifying legs on her own pace, while Freddie is getting her Advanced runs done in record times. This weekend she got two 2nd and one 1st placement, finishing her Advanced Interior title. There is no stopping her now! 🤣🐾🧚‍♀️

Our Story

Our mission as the AKC Otterhound Breeders of Merit is to promote and preserve these wonderful hounds. With less than 800 Otterhounds in the world, they are one of the most endangered dog breeds. Our Otterhounds are social and versatile. All our dogs are AKC Champions or Grand Champions and Good Canine Citizens. We participate in a variety of dog activities, including confirmation, obedience, agility and NoseWork. Our hounds are intelligent, friendly and great breed ambassadors. In our breeding program, we promote good health, temperament and most of all great family companions. Our puppies are raised in our home as family members with emphasis on good nutrition and both physical & social development. We welcome all opportunities to introduce our Pack to the public. Sharing our love and enthusiasm for the breed and a lot of doggie kisses!
