The first official mascot for the Summer Olympic Games was Waldi, a dachshund created for the 1972 Munich Olympics. Elena Winschermann designed Waldi, who was inspired by a real dog owned by the president of the International Association of the Sports Press. Waldi's design incorporated the colors of the Olympic rings, with a light blue head and tail and a striped body with at least three of the six Olympic colors
