Hi, my name is Jilly Bean! 🫘🍬I was rescued by a Good Samaritan in Oakdale, CA.

I'm an adorable 4-month-old mini panther girl with an all-around purrfect purrsonality. I'm confident, affectionate, cuddly, curious, fun and energetic. I settle into new environments within a day, as long as there are humans around to encourage me.

Speaking of humans, I love and trust all humans who come my way. In fact, I am a huge purr machine for humans. Sometimes I start purring as soon as my foster humans just look at me! My purrs are very loud for how tiny I am. I love to cuddle and I love to sleep on my foster humans' arms or legs. I am both a lap cat and a shoulder cat! As a tiny girl, I also have lots of energy and I love to explore new things and play with all sorts of toys so I really do need a sweet and playful furiend in my forever home.

Basically, I'm the whole package! I'm cute, outgoing, bubbly, friendly and I come with lots of love. I'm a teeny tiny girl with a big purrsonality, and I'd love to go home with you today!

Hi, my name is Pumpkin! 🎃 I was found outside as a friendly stray cat in Tracy, CA.

I’m a beautiful cream-colored 3-year-old boy with a white bib and matching white socks. My personality is confident, friendly and affectionate. I immediately came out of the carrier to explore and say hi to my new humans when I arrived in my foster home. I have no fear and I don’t waste time on hiding when I’m in a new environment. It took me no time at all to settle in!

I love humans! I’ve mastered the art of headbutting and I love to push my face into my humans’ hands to ask for more pets. I am a purr machine and the purrs always flow once the petting starts. I’m cuddly as well. My first day in my foster home, my foster human woke up to find me sleeping on her pillow, all stretched out and curled around her head. Yes, I am very quick to warm up and to bond with humans! I am not super needy and I’ll let you do your work, but whenever you have time for me, I absolutely adore being pet, and I’ll come and lie across your stomach if you lie down to make it super easy for you to pet me more. Oh and I am not a vocal cat but I have the world’s most adorable quiet little meow that I use to talk to humans when they acknowledge me.

Even though I’ve had to fend for myself outside for a while, I am still completely trusting, easy-going, adaptable and sweet. I’ve been loving my indoor life and my soft cat bed and I can often be found sleeping belly up in it. I’m so grateful to be one of the lucky few to be rescued and I can’t wait to meet my furever family.

Hi! We’re Lenny & Scarlett, 4-month-old kittens! We were rescued in the Central Valley. We can be adopted separately if you already have a young cat at home.

I’m Lenny, the tuxedo boy with a white chin. I’m a sweet, outgoing and frisky kitten. I was so ready to get out of our carrier when we arrived so I could immediately check out our foster home! I love running around and playing with my foster human, my siblings, and even by myself with a toy... or two... or six.

I’m Scarlett, the tuxedo girl, and I’m a friendly, confident and bubbly kitten. I love to be silly and am having so much fun playing with my foster human, my brothers and even all by myself. And when I need a little recharge, I settle in for a quick snooze before heading into the next round of play. You may have noticed that my eyes are a bit cloudy. I had an eye infection when I was younger so I was taken to an ophthalmologist. The doctor treated my eyes and as a result my eyes will be a bit cloudy for six months or so but no further treatment is needed... YAY!!

We’re still young kittens with lots of energy so we’re looking for forever homes with playful kitty furiends to keep us company. If you don’t already have a kitty at home, you should consider adopting us together!

Hi! I'm Lucy, an 8-month-old brown tabby girl! I was rescued in Roatán, Honduras, a jungle island off the coast of Honduras. It's extremely difficult for kitties to find homes on the island because it's more common for humans to dump animals on the streets! Sadly animals living on the streets not only struggle to find food and safety but many also suffer abuse at the hands of bad humans. But I'm one of the lucky kitties who was rescued by Flight Angels of Roatán . They even found a flight for me to go to San Francisco to find my furever family!

I’m a sweet and petite bundle of energy who loves to be by your side. Whether you’re working from home or catching up on your favorite tv show, I’ll be there with you. And when you’re up and about moving from room to room, I’ll follow you around with curiosity and affection.

I love to play and will bring my toys to you so we can play a game or if you prefer to bring them to me, I’ll joyfully jump in and show you all of my pawsome moves.

I also love receiving love and attention. Pets, kisses, scritches… they all equal love in my book. Oh, and speaking of love, I do sometimes give love nibbles but it’s just one of the ways of showing you that I care.

I quickly found the best places to nap in my foster home so when it’s time to rest, I know exactly where to go. Whether it’s on one of my favorite blankets or on you, if you have an open spot for me, a comfy place to nap makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

I am so happy to be in a safe and loving foster home and can't wait to meet my forever family and start having fun, sharing love, and creating lots of ameowzing memories!

Hi! We’re Austin, Lenny & Scarlett, 4-month-old kittens! We were rescued in the Central Valley.

I’m Austin, the brown tabby boy, and I’m a charming, kind and playful kitten. I was nudging for position in our carrier when we first arrived in our foster home so I could be the first one out and have a head start to explore. I love my toys, beds, toys, trees, toys, windows, and did I mention toys? My foster human likes to wave feathers through the air for me to catch and it’s so much fun!

Hi! I’m Aria, a 1-year-old girl! 🤎 I was rescued at ACT Spay/Neuter Clinic in Stockton, CA.

I’m a sweet, patient, trusting, gentle and overall easy kitty. I warm up to every human I meet and will happily accept some nice pets and chin scritches from them. I’ll even roll onto my back for belly rubs! I also like to think of myself and being confident and curious because even if a loud sound startles me, I almost immediately want go check it out to find out what it was.

When the toys come out, so does my playful side. I love to chase toys and I’m quite content playing with my spring toys on my own but I’m always super grateful when my humans want to play with me. Nothing beats having fun with my toys AND my humans at the same time. After chasing my toys around and it’s time to relax, I’ll get comfy by a sunny window, next to you on the couch, or on your lap.

I’m very polite and laid-back even when it comes to food. I’m not that kitty who will try to steal your food when you aren’t looking because food isn’t my center of attention. As a matter of fact, I prefer to eat my food slowly and will often graze for a couple hours after my meals are served.

Hello! I’m Freda! I was rescued with my three sisters from a backyard in San Francisco and I’m so glad to meet you!

I’m a sporty, dynamic 1-year-old Tortoiseshell girl with a bit of spicy “tortie” personality to match. I can be a bit feisty at first, says the Tortie… hehe, but all I need is some time to relax and for us to get to know one another and then my playful personality will emerge.

I love to play with the cat dancer toy and am quite the flying acrobat! Another way to my heart is offering me some treats and I’ll even lick Churus right off your finger. After some time and some play, I’ll happily welcome some head scratches and pets and will give you a little tap if I want more!

I love spending time by the windows so I can surveil the neighborhood and like to meow at the people passing by. I would be happy as an only cat while I’m finding my rhythm in my new home.

Hi! We’re Cadbury & Hershey, 2-year-old Siamese mix brothers! 🍫 We’ve been waiting for 152 days 😭

We were rescued in Doha, Qatar. 🇶🇦 We were rescued from a colony where a caring human was feeding us and other kitties. She fell in love with us and knew we needed to get off the streets and into a safe and loving home so she took us to a sanctuary where we flourished and showed just how pawsome we are. Then we went to a doctor to be vetted and that’s when they found out we’re FIV+. Unfortunately humans in Qatar think differently about FIV+ cats than they do here in the US. Even knowing how amazing we are, our rescuers knew it would be difficult finding a home there and they worried we might end up back on the streets if in the wrong human hands.

We’re extremely handsome, super sweet, very loving and generally calm kitties, although we do have a playful side too! When we first arrived we immediately came out of our carriers to check out things and say hello.

We were excited to greet our foster human and check out our foster home when we got here. We settled in nicely and now we’re having such a great time playing, receiving lots of attention, and finally being able to relax and not worry about the dangers and uncertainties we faced when we lived on the streets. This indoor lifestyle is incredible! We get to play chase and tag, eat lots of yummy food and relax with our human. I like to sit by our human’s feet while Hershey likes the higher spots so it works out purrfectly for everyone. And while we both love receiving attention, especially in the morning, we never compete for it.

We’re looking for a home together, preferably with a multi-human family so we can receive extra love and attention. We traveled a long way to find our forever home and are so excited to finally have a family to share our love!

Hi! We're Calvin & Hobbes, 2-year-old gray and white boys! 🩶🤍 We were found outside and taken to the Peninsula Humane Society, where we got adopted, but just a few months later, our previous family didn’t want us anymore. 💔They asked that someone from the shelter pick us up but when the person arrived, Hobbes was missing!😱 Calvin was taken back to the shelter without Hobbes and was very distressed being back there solo.

Thankfully Give Me Shelter offered to give Calvin a safe and loving foster home to decompress. Then about a week later, Hobbes was found by a Good Samaritan and taken to the shelter! Hurray! Now we’re back together.

I’m Calvin, a playful, sweet, and gentle kitty. I’m initially more nervous in new environments than Hobbes is and it takes me a longer to warm up but Hobbes really helps me out by making me feel more at ease.

I’m Hobbes, a friendly, affectionate, and playful kitty. It can take me a few days to begin warming up in new environments but I’ve gone through some big changes and I just want to make sure I’m safe. I’m the more confident one and lead the way with Calvin by my side. Once I’m feeling comfy in my new environment, my curiosity kicks in and I’ll be walking around checking everything out and head bumping for pets.

We both love spending time with humans and receiving attention from them. We’ll ask for pets and cuddle up next to you so it’s easier for you to give us attention. Hobbes tends to ask for more pets while we’re settling in but Calvin loves them just as much as Hobbes does - it just takes him longer to ask for them.

When we aren’t relaxing in the sun or by the window, we like to play! We have lots of fun playing together and we’re excited to play with all of our new toys. We also love to play with our humans and it’s a great way to build trust.

We're looking for a quieter home with loving humans who know it will take us a little time to open up. Will you give us your patience, love and some sunny spots for naps? We purromise we're worth all of this and more!

Hi! I’m Rusty! I was rescued in Fresno, CA.

I’m a shy, sweet, calm and affectionate 2-year-old kitty who likes to take things slow. Living on the streets taught me to be very cautious so I need extra time to adjust to new environments.

I was very nervous when I first arrived in my foster home so I found a safe space where I could decompress. Lucky for me there’s a kitty cave here, they’re my favorite, but even a corner with a cozy blanket in a quiet room does the trick. It can take me several days to build up the courage to leave my safe space to explore a bit but I’ll always return to my space afterwards until I’m feeling more confident.

I love humans and really want to create an unbreakable bond with my human but I do need some help to get there. Slow and gentle pets really help me feel more at ease and some tender encouragement from you really helps a lot too. You can pick me up and put me on your lap for pets and I’ll expression my appreciation with purrs. You can slowly wave a wand toy and although I won’t leap across the room to get it, it will peak my interest and with time I’ll slowly open up to playing too. Little by little I’ll open up more and more and reveal just how pawsome I am.

I do get along well with other kitties and having a calm and more confident kitty around to mentor me would be great!

I’m looking for a calm and quiet home with a cat savvy family who will be patient with me and help me build up my confidence. I’m a very sweet kitty who just needs extra time and extra love. Will you give a shy kitty like me a chance?

Hi! We are Tartine and Macaroon, 4-month-old girls! We were rescued in the Central Valley after we were dumped in a backyard. We can be adopted separately if you already have a young cat at home.

I’m Tartine, the black cat 🐈‍⬛ and I’m a purrfectly sweet and gentle kitten. I like to be in the meow-mix, playing with my fellow foster kitties, but I’m also pawsitively fine doing my own thing too. I have the cutest little meow and use it to let you know when it’s time for some eats. Food is my happy place—it’s whisker-lickin’ good! I also enjoy bird-watching from the window, getting purrs and pets from my foster mom, and catnapping on the softest objects I can find. I’m very well-behaved and use my kitty scratch posts and litter box like a true champurrion. I don’t mind a busy household with kids, but I’d be purrfectly happy in a quieter home too.

I’m Macaroon, the tortie, and I’m a purrfectly sweet kitten with lots of cuddly energy. I pawsitively adore other cats, people, and even those tiny humans called toddlers. My favorite things to do are munch on delicious treats, play with my meow-nificent mouse toy, fetch a ball like a pro, and chill with my fur-tastic cat buddies. I prefer to sip from a fancy kitty fountain and curl up next to my foster humans at night for some cozy snuggles. I get the zoomies at all hours, turning the house into my personal race track. I’m always ready to be in the meow-ment, not just a passive paw-ticipant.

Hi! I’m Karlie, a 3-year-old girl! I was rescued in Stockton, CA.

I LOVE humans and all of the loving attention I receive from them. I’m incredibly warmhearted and sweet and humans just can’t resist me. I immediately showed my foster human my ultra affectionate purrsonality by rolling around for pets and sitting on her lap. Yes, I’m a lap cat!

I love humans so much that I follow my foster human around wherever she goes because I want to be right by her side. When she goes to work I sometimes curl up in the closet and pine for human companionship, and nap of course. I’m so happy when she comes home and I come right out to spend time with her. I’m becoming more curious as I become more comfortable with my new surroundings and have even tried leaving with her so I won’t miss her. Okay, I know I’m being a little dramatic but you get the point… I love humans, meow!

I also have a playful side that comes out now and then and will bat at a wand toy if you wave it around for me. As long as you’re playing with me I’m a happy kitty because… you guessed it, humans make everything better.

I have so much love to share and I can’t wait to share all of it with my forever family!

Hi, my name is Mirado and I’m a 4-year-old boy! I was taken to the Tracy Shelter in Tracy, CA in early May. The theme that month was Cinco de Mayo so they named me "Mirado" which means "looked" in Spanish. Why? Because I’m a looker with the deepest green eyes that I use to give humans the sweetest loving looks.

I had a badly injured tail when I was brought into the shelter and after I recovered I was just sitting in a kennel day after day, waiting for someone to come take me home. I greeted everyone who approached my kennel but I kept getting overlooked and no one ever considered adopting me. 💔The Tracy Shelter asked Give Me Shelter to take me in so that I can relax in a foster home and get more visibility!

I’m a beautiful orange boy 🧡 with stunning green eyes. 💚 I also have the softest pink toe beans you'll find in a rescue cat! 🩷 My personality is confident and laid-back. I immediately came out of the carrier to explore and say hi to my new humans when I arrived in my foster home. I have no fear and I don't waste time hiding when I’m in a new environment.

It took me no time at all to settle in and now that I'm settled in, I’m low-maintenance, easy-going and chill. My boisterous days are behind me and nowadays I spend my time snoozing the day away, walking around to get my daily steps in, and enjoying brushing sessions from my humans. You can find me being a perfect orange cat loaf on the couch, on top of backpacks laid flat on the table, and even on a laptop. I've mastered the art of loafing.

I can get along with other cats if you do a slow and gradual introduction, but I'm also very happy being your one and only kitty. I've waited long enough...if you want an easy cat, look no further and adopt me today!

Handsome Charlie is still waiting! 🧡 Word has it that l’m a sweet, goofy, and fun-loving cat. Are you looking for a cute guy who knows how to jump through hoops and is learning clicker training stuff? I’m that cat! My other impressive cat credentials include: - I’m an expert purrer and biscuit-maker. - I’ve purrfected flopping down on the floor for pets. - I enjoy hanging out with my favorite peeps, and sometimes follow them around if they’re on the move. I’m looking for a cat-savvy guardian who will give me a safe and loving home and who will continue to help me become super confident. I can still be a little shy at times, but it doesn’t take me long to overcome my hesitations. Charlie is still waiting for his forever home! 1-year-old orange boy “Handsome Charlie” was originally turned into SF Animal Care & Control as an under-socialized kitten. Unfortunately, he was not given the full time he needed to learn to trust people and not made available for adoption there. ☹️ Luckily, we had the resources to take him in. We found him an experienced foster who has been working with him to build up his confidence around humans for the past months and Charlie has made tremendous progress. 💪 Charlie has nailed down his purring and biscuit-making, as well as flopping down on the floor for pets. He is a huge fan of playing with humans and other cats, and would love some feline buddies at his new home. 👯 Charlie still has a bit of room to grow when it comes to being picked up and being carried. But he has shown so much potential that he can definitely get there with a patient adopter who will keep up the confidence-building work. Of course, Charlie’s foster will be there for any advice and support. Charlie has never truly had a home of his own. 😭 After all that Charlie has gone through, we’re really hoping that a cat-savvy guardian can step up and give Charlie the chance he desperately needs. There is no doubt that he belongs in a safe and loving home with a human who will spoil him forever. [Seeking hero adopter] If you can take in one of the GMS cats most in need of adoption, please consider Sunshine! ☀️ Sunshine is a 5-year-old orange and white boy. He was initially rescued as an abandoned cat on the streets of San Francisco. His person has a terminal illness and can no longer care for him. 😔 Sunshine loves hanging out with people, whether it’s watching movies, reading books or doing puzzles. He also loves racing after toy with his 9 and 11 year old human foster sisters and their friends! 😸 When it’s time to chill and recharge, Sunshine loves to stretch out for naps in the sun and he is a sucker for getting a good brushing and a massage too from head to tail. Just an all-around great feline buddy!😽 Sunshine has had a tough time recently. Not only did he say goodbye to his previous human, he also was just diagnosed with diabetes. Don’t be scared - it just means twice daily insulin injections + a wet food diet. All training and support will be provided to the adopter. 👌 We promise that all the work will be repaid ten times in affection and companionship! ❤️ Sunshine has so much love to give and we’d hate for him to get overlooked because of his special needs. #WhereAreTheyNow Remember Rhea? This quirky tabby girl came to us as a tiny kitten. She has a cute head tilt due to an inner ear infection as a kitten. Despite our best efforts to promote her, Rhea got little adoption interest for a very long time. After waiting in foster for 790 (!!) days, Rhea finally went home to her forever humans this January. 🥳 Recently, her adopter shared with us, “Rhea has transformed into a total love bug. She will sleep on the cat tree next to me all day while I’m working. Saving Cats from Abuse, Abandonment, and Neglect

Founded in 2003 by Lana Bajsel, Give Me Shelter Cat Rescue (a registered 501(C)3 non-profit organization), has worked tirelessly within the San Francisco community to help stop the overpopulation of abandoned and unwanted adult and senior cats.

As a small group of dedicated volunteers, we try to save as many feline lives as we can. We provide behavioral and medical intervention, unconditional love and a safe haven while we seek new forever homes for our feline friends.

As many of you know, the odds are stacked against older cats that are placed in local shelters. Here in San Francisco, most adult cats are at a 70% risk of being euthanized, whether it is due to their age, easily treatable medical conditions, or due to the stress of being placed in a shelter. We believe that adult and senior cats, with their typically calm personalities, can make the best of family pets. Our mission is to rescue these cats and find them loving, permanent homes through fostering and active adoption strategies.

Every time you adopt a cat from us, you allow us to save another cat that would have otherwise died. We receive new cats into our system almost every week. Our website is constantly being updated, so please check back often!
