I've had a knack for photographing animals for as long as I can remember and nothing makes me happier than truly capturing the spirit of a pet my photos. My goal is to make sure every client (both four and two-legged) has fun at their session and is blown away by the images we make together. I'm available for private commissioned work throughout the San Francisco Bay and also do commercial and adv

ertising work for companies all over the country. When I'm not shooting for clients I volunteer my time and talent to local pet rescue and animal welfare groups.

Boo and Happy Halloween! This year I again had the pleasure of helping out the good folks at with their now annual aPawcalypse clear-the-shelter adoption event

We wanted to create some memorable, spooky-cute images of puppies and kittens in the shelter’s little studio to get the word out which I believe we managed to accomplish.

Who’s your favorite little monster?

One of the few downsides of being a pet photographer is your subjects simply aren’t around as long as people.

After nearly twenty years of doing this it still hits me hard each time a client of mine passes because when I’m working with a dog or cat we always connect and that stays with me. I may not remember what I had for lunch yesterday but I still have vivid recall from shoots a decade and a half ago.

This week I got one of those DMs that I dread about a sweet, happy dog named Munchie that I photographed earlier this year.

She passed away suddenly just a few days ago and her family is understandably devastated. I’ve been there. Most if not all of us pet lovers have been there and it’s one of the hardest things we ever go through. Those relationships we have with our pets run deep and primal. They’re very, very different from the ones we have with people. The bond is pure and never tinged with ulterior motives or secrets or doubts. They are always there for us no matter what.

So, take a moment to put some good thoughts out there for Munchie and her family and spend a little extra one-on-one time with your pet today. Safe journey, Munchie. I’m glad I met you.

Pick your favorite puppy pic!! It’s Friday. It’s been a really long week and I think we deserve a big dose of cute little dogs. Puppy pile anyone?

I took these last year on a project with and managed to forget to post them!

The best thing about working with dogs this young is that they like to snuggle to keep warm and often end up in all sorts of interesting and insanely cute puppy janga configurations.

Here’s a few .of the ones I really like but please help a guy out and choose your favorite and post in a comment!

If you’re interested in having your puppy photographed while they’re young and tiny I’d love to do it for you. I can shoot at your home or in my new San Francisco studio space. Message me for details or scheduling

Say cheese!!!!

This cute little spud is from a litter of 4 tabby kittens at .

I met him today during my regular visit to PHS to photograph cats available for adoption. PHS along with most shelters are all popping at the seams with cats and kittens needing homes so if you are thinking about adding a feline family member this is the time!

If you’re interested in having eye-catching portraits of your cat and live in the SF Bay Area I’d love to work with you! Link and email are in my profile!

Who’s ready for a dose of Pug?!! Meet Boba, a handsome guy I worked with at my studio recently to celebrate his 6th birthday! As you can see he came prepared with an appropriate costume for the occasion.

Not all of us can pull off a crown and mantle but I have to say Boba is not among that group - this suits him to a tee! We did try a few different colors and looks but I can say this was my favorite.

If you have a dog or cat you think deserves the royal pet photography treatment I’d love to help you make that happen. DM me directly if interested!

On a last note, many have noticed I haven’t been exactly active on social media the past few months. Something happened in real life that I won’t get into here but it’s great to be back and I look forward to hearing from everyone!

Pick the pic! Which is your favorite from this small sample from Charlie the Golden Retriever Puppy’s first photoshoot.

The little guy did really well. Puppies can be a little tricky to photograph but I’ve learned over the years how to best harness that puppy energy and just roll with it.

That energy can vary quite a bit — sometimes wildly even over the course of a few seconds so you have to be ready…and quick. At least until they fall asleep!

If you have a new puppy you want captured in all their puppy-energy glory DM me about setting up a studio session. They only look this young and cute once and you’ll be glad you have those special images to remember.

Today’s set of adorable kitten photos comes with a bit of a backstory You may have already heard the term Kitten Season or perhaps you haven’t. While it sounds cute it really isn’t when you learn it’s the time of year when un-neutered cats go into heat and have litters— sometimes more than one per cat per season and these days that season can last from April to October or even November because it stays warmer longer.

Many litters are abandoned and newborn kittens are left to fend for themselves which they cannot and the consequence is shelters filled up with baby cats who can’t eat or even p**p on their own. Volunteers like the ones in these photos come in to syringe or bottle feed them and then play and socialize them. Needless to say, the kitten require lots of care and as they grow older and adoptable they take up space normally reserved for older cats who need homes, too. Adopters often go for cute kittens over older cats and this compounds the shelter crowding. It’s a brutal, ceaseless cycle.

So what can you do to help?

1. Neuter your own cats and consider adopting rather than buying from a breeder
2. Volunteer at a shelter/rescue or as a kitten foster parent for groups like and
3. Donate to shelter or cat rescue group
4. Spread the word — share this post or talk to your friends and co-workers about it.

Please consider sharing this with others to help let more people know! Thank you!

Who doesn’t love getting a bath? Max!!!! Max the Australian Shepherd had his modeling debut last week and it was a doozy. Which is your favorite pic of him enjoying his pre-groom wash?

This is a little sneak peek from my shoot at of their brand new Grooming Academy. The brand new facility and program will provide vocational training to people facing barriers to employment, including Veterans, survivors of domestic violence, formerly incarcerated individuals, and others, preparing them for well-paying, in-demand jobs in the growing pet-related sector.

Stay tuned for more pix next week.

PS. Max did great and I’ve talked him into trying this again in the future. Maybe for a new dog treat promotion next time?

Isn’t it time you had an epic photo of your best friend?

I think everyone deserves an image of their pet that truly captures them being them. That’s why I’ve been photographing dogs, cats and all sorts of other companion animals in the San Francisco Bay Area since 2006.

Whether you want an expertly lit studio portrait, an action shot at the beach, a quiet moment at home or a heartwarming interaction between them and you or your child I can shoot it.

If you’re interested in learning more about my pet photo sessions message me check out my website (link in my profile).

I’d love to work with you.

Just because it’s one of those days…

Some say cats are aloof and utterly self absorbed. I completely disagree. My cat, Jimmy Chew, is capable of displaying variety of expressions not normally seen in this solar system.

Needless to say he brings humor to situations that really benefit from a good laugh.

…I also think this sequence would look fabulous as epic metal prints on a bedroom wall.

If you want to immortalize your best friend and make some artwork for your home I’d love to work with you.

I’ve been going through my photo archives lately for a project with a veterinary office—they’re decorating their exam room walls with my work.

I stumbled upon this one when I was looking for that shot of Girlie Sue—the Boston Terrier vamping it up in the pink boa—I posted last week.

It’s from the same minisession shoot at Under One Roof and I really do remember it like it was yesterday. The dogs are named Hershey and Missy and as you can guess from the expressions one of them was extremely excited to be there and the other was not!

I recall that Hershey the chocolate Pommie did not want to leave kept pushing Missy off to the side or standing in front of her. It took me and their dad together each holding treats to get them focused but man was it worth the effort.

Interested in having your pet’s personality captured and made epic? I’d love to work with you. DM me here or schedule a time to talk on my website— link’s in the bio!

There are a few pet portraits I’ve taken over the years that have a lot of staying power. This is one of them. I met Girlie Sue and her dad in 2008 when I was just two years into this second career that’s turned out to be my longest-running and best job. I was doing a pop-up pet photography event at a store called Under One Roof in the Castro — still one of the best gift shops I’ve ever been in (unfortunately they closed in 2012)

I was still quite new to all of this and compared to the knowledge and experience I have now with my camera and lighting it was very low tech - just me and Canon 5D (the first one!) with no flash. Girlie Sue showed up at the very end with her dad, Eli. We hit it off right away and it brought a lot of good energy to the session — something I’ve always appreciated and strive for more in my shoots with pets. We were almost done when Eli suggested we add a prop and he plucked a pink feather boa from one of the store racks and hung it over Girlie’s shoulders.

Needless to say, it really worked and combined with her regal demeanor and expression it’s still one of my all-time favorites. Eli had it printed into a giant canvas over his fireplace (see next picture) and I photographed him and Girlie a number of times over the years until she passed in 2017.

Girlie’s been on my mind this week — I got one of those Facebook memory prompts that I generally ignore but this time it was this boa image again and it made me smile and remember why I love photographing pets so much. Another pet photographer friend of mine used to say everyone deserves at least one special portrait of their pet they can keep on their wall and in their hearts. I wholeheartedly agree. Thank you, Girlie!

Interested in creating a unique, memorable portrait of your dog or cat? I’d love to do it for you. Reach me through my website (link in profile) or DM me.

Group shot! Say the words and many photographers start to sweat a little — especially with large groups or groups with short attention spans (or both!)

For us photographers that deal with animals or kids the difficulty level and patience required is an order of magnitude higher and it gets exponentially more difficult the more subjects you add. Getting multiple beings in focus is challenging when they’re standing still. Dogs tend to not do that for very long —especially when they’re right next to their friends and want to play.

All this is lead up to the pictures I’ve posted here. Getting five rambunctious Brussels Griffons to focus after they’d already been at the studio for 90 minutes for mini-sessions took me plus 4 people behind me — all of us making weird animal sounds. I’m sure it was quite a sight. Fortunately, we managed to get one image with ALL of them looking at the camera. If you look at the second picture which was taken literally a half-second later every single dog is looking in a completely different direction. It really does take a village!

I’m happy to help you wrangle your animals for a group shot or just photograph them individually like any sane person would! Check out my website (link is in my profile) or message me and we’ll make it happen!

Some of my favorite portraits don’t show a face. Some do. Take this pair of images of a lovely Irish wolfhound named Oiefe I took at Bernal Heights. I just love the one of her looking out over the hills — to me it not only catches a truly dog moment (anyone with a dog has seen one) but it’s also a slice of her real essence. I also really like the close-up of her amazing face (those eyes!). Together, these two photographs give you get a real sense for her Oiefe-ness.

I love finding those moments when I’m working with people’s pets —the ones that truly capture them. That’s my job as a pet portrait photographer and I’d love to do it for you! I am opening my schedule for more private sessions both on location and in my studio than I have in the past few years so if you’ve been holding off on photoshoot for your dog or cat or have recently added a new furry family member to your pack please get in touch. My website is listed on my profile or you can DM me here!
