It was -29C this morning, and human forced me outside for a p*e. I did not p*e, and quickly ran back inside. This was repeated x 3, still no p*e. Now I’m parked in front of this picture as a subtle hint of where I’d be (and p*e) if there was any justice in the world 😤

The contractors come in every morning at 7am. I bark at them and try to bite them. By the afternoon, we’re firm friends and I let them scratch me. The next morning at 7am they come in again, and I try to bite them. Repeat.

I’m still having some issues being alone in our cottage, so I’ve been hanging out a Caius’ home a lot. Last night I paid back for his hospitality by p*eing on their floor 🙈

Walkies are a bit of a challenge right now, because it’s -20c and my paws really hurt (I refuse to wear booties). I also don’t do my bathroom business unless I walk, so I’m being forced outside in the big freeze 3-4 times a day. A pack of four wolves were seen in the village a couple of days ago, so human is not very excited about the idea of a bathroom break outside at 3am 🥶 I don’t mind hanging out inside in front of the fireplace. My cousin Caius has been keeping me company.

Do I hear the sound of hypocrisy in the air? Hooman took me to the vet to get a blood panel taken because she thought I’ve been drinking too much. It’s a bit much coming from her to blame a girl for liking her drink 😤 Turns out there’s absolutely nothing wrong with me; I’m just a bit thirsty. The vet said I’m in very robust health for my age, but I did get new psychiatric medicine that will hopefully make long car journeys a bit easier for all of us.

It’s been fun to visit Grandma and Grandpa ❤️ I’ve stolen the cat’s food every single day, chased the cat once, located a fox den in the woods and been very excited about it, and chased after a crippled mouse that the cat had left in the yard. After all this excitement I’m ready to go back to the city.

(For those who don’t know, I have a background as a fake dachshund. When I was homeless, I pretended to be a doxie and got taken in by a dachshund rescue, who matched with my human. According to the canine DNA test, I have zero dachshund in my ancestry.)

I get to keep my eye. The infection has healed slowly because I am a lady of a certain age. The vet did all kinds of procedures to my eye and I got four different types of eye drops that human will need to force into my left eyeball for the next two weeks. Hard to say which one of us will enjoy this process less.

I might lose my beautiful, blue left eye soon 🥺 I got another eye infection at Easter, and it hasn’t healed very well despite rigorous medical intervention. My left eye has been blind since I had an unfortunate altercation with my late collie uncle Lasse (RIP) a few years back. The tear duct doesn’t work properly, so I’m very prone to eye infections. We’re seeing an eye specialist on Thursday.

I showcased my dottiest behaviour with the washing machine repair guy. At first I was very angry and barked at him for an unnecessarily long time. Then I realised that my initial evaluation was indeed wrong and he wasn’t a threat. The rest of the time he was here I didn’t leave his side, got in the way of his work and kept poking at him with my nose so he would scratch me and tell me what a good girl I am. We were after all paying him 250€ an hour.

Congrats to the leather puppy who is turning 2 years today!! 🎂 He loves me and gets very excited when I visit, but the feeling is not entirely mutual, although I’m very sweet and patient with him. Our mutual existence requires constant adult supervision, as the leather puppy often gets ideas that would not be very beneficial for my mental or physical well-being. Last night he was for example running after me with a thermometer, after Granny (against her better judgment) told him that you measure dogs’ temperature under their tail 🙈 Thankfully I was saved from the health inspection. My favourite thing about the leather puppy is when he sits in his high chair and drops food, or when I get his leftovers. Sometimes he runs around with food in his hand, at the perfect level for my nose and mouth… In those situations I have a mental battle with myself. I know I can’t submit to temptation, but one day the large humans will look away for a split second, and my moment will come… 😏

As a tough and hardened Finnish dog, I’m not too bothered about the snow or freezing temperatures. I actually went a bit crazy with happiness when first snow fell and ran around like a little lunatic. Snow makes all the scents even stronger and it’s easier for me to find other dogs’ p*email. (Petey is probably happy that he is already in the rainbow bridge right now, he would have absolutely detested this 😬)
