‼️URGENT NEED ONE OR TWO FOSTERS BY TOMORROW
We saved these two baby boys from being euthanized due to overcrowding with the generous help of sponsors to assist with vet fees, but the work is not done yet and we need you! These literal baby boys need a place to stay while they are waiting for their furever homes. Each baby can go to separate foster families or both can go to one if you have room for two enclosures. Fostering is a great way to dip your feet in the water before taking the plunge. If you've been thinking about getting a bunny companion, why not foster one? Experience is not necessary and we will teach you everything you need to know about the rewarding world of house rabbits. If you are looking for a bunny friend for your bunny, we are experts in bonding. One of these sweet boys could be the perfect match for your bunny! Setup can be provided. Indoor homes only please. Text (408)771-3271.

UPDATE 8/16/24 - Wonderful news everyone! Hitchcock Road Animal Services has been completely cleared of bunnies! (For now.) Thank you to SaveABunny (rescued Becky), House Rabbit Society (rescued the REW) and Lisa Redmond of Rescue Rabbits Rock (helping us with fostering Hopper and rescuing Della.) Also, a big thank you to those that have helped sponsor a bunny for us so we could save Hopper, Snowy and Bear. We also appreciate all the shares. If you are interested in adopting any of the bunnies please contact the respective rescues. We still need fosters for Snowy and Bear. Please text (408) 771-3271 or message us if you can open your heart and home.

UPDATE 8/13/24 - URGENT NEED FOR FOSTERS
Thanks to a couple more donations we are able to rescue the black baby boy too! A big shoutout to the 4 people that are helping sponsor the bunnies. You are truly saving lives!

While 2 bunnies (Della and the white female) are still at the shelter, they are safe for the time being as this shelter has room for 3 bunnies. A big thank you to Lisa Redmond for offering to foster Hopper! We are so grateful!

We URGENTLY still need two more fosters by Thursday or one that is willing to take on 2 bunnies. Both the black baby boy and Snowy, the baby lop, need you to provide a loving indoor home. Both these bunnies are males they were mis sexed due to being so young. Please text (408)771-3271 if you can foster! We can only save bunnies with your help! Setup can be provided.

We are experts in bonding, so if you are looking for a friend for your bunny, one of these boys could be the perfect match!

UPDATE 5:30 PM 8/8/24 Just confirmed that 3 bunnies are still at the shelter (Della, the REW girl and the new black one who is only an 8 week old baby boy 😢). We've also learned that Snowy was mis-sexed due to his age when he came in. He is a boy not a girl. We desperately need a foster for Hopper and Snowy still. Since they are actually both baby boys they can go to the same foster family if someone is willing to take both or to individual households. Please, please, please friends! Let's get these last 3 out and get fosters/adopters in place! I've been told they are all sweeties. Please open your heart/home to them. Out of the area adoption is ok if approved! Only indoor homes, please. Text (408) 771-3271

UPDATE 8/8/2024 - Three bunnies are SAFE. The two bunnies that were most critical (Becky and Hopper) due to being "blacklisted" over behavior issues and Snowy. SaveABunny is taking in Becky and we are taking in Hopper and Snowy. We do still urgently need two fosters for Hopper and Snowy, who are both very young bunnies. Please text (408) 771-3271 if you can foster. Setup can be provided.

The shelter is currently now back down to three bunnies as another bunny just came in. The heat is off them for now, but as soon as another bunny comes in they will be right back in the same situation so we still want to help them get out. We can't do that without you!

‼️URGENT AT RISK OF EUTHANASIA
Bunny friends we need your help! Hitchcock Rd. Animal Services in Salinas is again over capacity. While all 5 of these bunnies need help to avoid euthanasia, 2 are extremely critical (Becky & Hopper) and need out ASAP as they are extremely stressed out, due to not being handled properly, and starting to act out. This shelter is high kill and only has room to house 3 rabbits. If you can help foster/adopt/sponsor any of these bunnies please let us know by texting (408)771-3271 or send us a message. They are also available for adoption directly through the shelter. We are experts in bonding so if your bunny needs a friend we will happily bond them for you. We cannot help anymore bunnies without you!

Snowball would like to demonstrate for you one of her favorite ways to cool down when it gets hot. Tile and marble pieces from the hardware store are great for buns to lie on as they stay nice and cool. You can even put them in the freezer to make them extra cool before giving to your bunny. Snowball loves her tile and literally pancakes on them when we put them in her pen! Snowball is available for adoption/foster.

Willow's foster family is adopting her! I went over to bond her with their other bunny to make sure they could co-habit before we finalize everything. It was a wonderful success and the two girls are getting along and have been sharing the same xpen area since Monday with no fighting. Silly Archie decided I was a jungle gym she could jump and climb all over!

We love getting pictures and updates from our adopters! If you remember, Eeyore was the Flemish we rescued from Hitchcock Road Animal Services back in March after he was dumped. He's doing well and adapting to his new life as a house rabbit. He's putting on weight and will never need to worry about not having food or a safe indoor home again. He is loved and spoiled by his mama as he should be.

Kiwi is a nice big New Zealand Red bunny with lots of love to give. He was rescued by a wonderful woman after her neighbor moved him outside to a small cage after they decided to get a puppy. 😢 She asked for our help after trying to find him a safe home and hasn't been able to. We of course said we'd help and are so grateful she has such a big ❤️ and saved him after he was discarded by his family. If you would like to foster or adopt Kiwi please message us or text us at (408) 771-3271.

Thank you everyone for all the shares and to those who volunteered to foster the bunnies from Hitchcock Road Animal Services in Salinas, CA. A big thank you to House Rabbit Society for taking in two of the bunnies too. Together we were able to save 4 bunnies. The sweet little Lion Lop, Becky, is the only bunny left at the shelter. She is safe for the time being until more bunnies come in. The shelter only has room for 3 bunnies so they can become overpopulated quite quickly. If you'd like to foster and/or adopt Becky let us know. She can also be adopted from the shelter.

Rescue never stops. Rescue doesn't sleep. Rescue does not care if it's late or you don't feel good. When you are in rescue you are always "on". This little one came to us at 10:00 pm after some good citizens noticed this baby had walked right up to a cat. His eyes had just barely open so he was only about 10 days old. We went to work right away and got baby warmed up with a snuggle safe and built him a nest using donor bunny fur/hay and some soft fleece. Baby was dehydrated and had a head tilt. Baby was lucky they didn't have any noticeable injuries or bites. Cat bites are toxic to baby bunnies. We were able to get some rabbit replacement milk, using a special ni**le, into baby and tucked baby into the nest to sleep. While awake we noticed baby kept playing with their ear. It was obvious something was in their bugging poor baby causing baby to hold their head tilted. The ear was not quite fully open, but we were able to get in a bit and pulled out a small bug (looked like an ant) and dirt that had gotten in. Over the next couple days as the ear opened we were able to get everything out and the head tilt went completely away. Infants are hard to raise without their siblings; we gave baby a small stuffed animal that baby snuggles with to help. Baby is doing great and is running, doing binkies and starting to nibble on some baby pellets and alfalfa. This little one is very lucky! The issue is this is now the third infant found on the property of the good citizens. Somebody in the neighborhood is letting their rabbits breed and these poor innocent babies are being released and most of them are dying/being eaten. No mama bun is having just one baby, but each time it's happened the family has looked all over but have not found more.
Rabbits can get pregnant minutes after giving birth and gestation is 31-35 days and average litters are 5-6 kits but they can have double that too. Do that math! If the people that have the rabbits would come forward we will help them get their rabbits spayed/neutered. They have not been able to find them yet.

UPDATE SAFE - The male Californian was adopted and the Lionhead Lop, Becky, is still at the shelter, but she's safe for now until more rabbits come in. ‼️URGENT - NEED FOSTERS TO AVOID EUTHANASIA

UPDATE - SAFE Placement was found for Mama and her 6 babies

‼️URGENT NEED FOR BUNNY FOSTERS - South Bay, Bay Area, San Jose, Los Gatos, Campbell, etc.

Bunny Friends we need your help! A South Bay shelter has a mama bunny that just gave birth to 6 babies. The shelter does not have the capacity to care for them and they need rescue placement ASAP. We would like to help but since we are already over capacity it would require moving a few of our bunnies out of our nursery site to make room for them. If you are able to assist and foster, please message or text 408-771-3271 so we can help them. Setup can be provided.

05/27/2024

It's been so busy we are behind in our posts but will try to get you caught up. Sage, the bunny that was dumped at the HOA that we rescued had her vet exam/surgery appointment on Monday. While doing her intake exam the night we saved her we had felt what we believed to be an abscess or cyst in her abdomen. We alerted Dr. Cheung of Happy Valley Pet Hospital right away to get her in ASAP to have it taken care of. Sage, is doing great and recovering nicely at one of our medical foster sites. Dr. Cheung is an amazing bunny surgeon and we always know our bunnies are in the best hands. We can not thank her and her staff enough for how well they take care of our bunnies.
We also want to give another shoutout to Renaygarseeya Renaygarseeya who posted about Sage as soon as he saw her spearing her rescue efforts. We could tell by the p**p we had found Sage was already not feeling well. Sage's infection would have spread and she would have died a cruel, painful and unnecessary death.
Not only did her owner condemn her to death by dumping her, but every resident that knew about her and did not report her played a part as well. According to all the interviews we had, most residents were aware she had been there for at least a month, yet not one tried to get her help. Please do not add to the problem. Notify your local rescues and post on social media if you see bunnies running around outside in parks, neighborhoods, etc. If you see a bunny that is any color other than brown they are most definitely a domestic rabbit and needs help. There are brown bunnies that are domestic too so if unsure take a picture and ask.
Wild bunnies around here are small and brown with long/big ears in relation to their head size and will runaway very quickly from you. Domestic bunnies will run if being chased or you get too close, but you are able to get closer to them and they don't panic the same way a wild bunny does when being approached. Obviously, if the bunny has loped ears or a mane, like Sage, this is a "designer" bunny and definitely not wild.

05/21/2024

Our beautiful Sage, the bunny we rescued after she was dumped is slowly adapting to eating like a bunny should. Previously, she had been surviving on garbage like french fries, noodles and melon rind. We were able to get her to eat hay the first night, but she didn't have interest in pellets or greens. The video below shows the very first time she decided to try cilantro. Her foster mommy also says she is starting to get excited for pellet time. her p**p is looking far better and is no longer and long strands, small and misshaped. We're still working on getting some more weight put on her, but she's doing great and is very grateful for her new indoor life with people to love her.

05/14/2024

We would like to share the rescue story of Sage with you. This is a long post, but we believe change can only happen through education and so we want the public to know about the amount of effort, time and resources it takes to rescue just one dumped bunny.

Please stop dumping your bunnies. Domestic bunnies cannot live off the land like wild bunnies; you are sending them off with a death sentence. Majority of bunnies will not be lucky like Sage and get rescued. Most dumped bunnies will suffer horrific and completely preventable deaths. We also want to reiterate that there is no such thing as a "neighborhood rabbit." Please also do not add to the problem because you think the rabbits are cute; report any domestic rabbit you see, and most importantly, do not interfere or purposely work against the rescue of any bunny, or for that matter any animal, an organization is trying to save.

It took us four days to locate and rescue Sage. During this time we were victims of theft and also experienced neighbors trying to stop us from saving Sage. When working a case of a dumped bunny that needs to be located and helped, you go through terrible anxiety/stress and you don't get much sleep due to constant worry if the bunny is ok, sick, injured, being attacked by predators, still alive, etc.? It is mentally quite draining for all volunteers involved.

The first evening out to the site we were able to meet with the person who originally posted on Facebook about a rabbit in a HOA car park and had him show us the exact area he had seen her in and talk to him about how the search and rescue would be done and what we were going to do to help her once she was found. We were very thankful for his cooperation as it was very helpful.

We then interviewed some of the neighbors and got a pretty good idea of where the perimeter was that she was keeping to. During these interviews, we also learned that poor Sage had been fending for herself for over a month! Yet, NO ONE bothered to report that she was there or try to help and get her to safety. Kids were feeding her French fries and bowls of noodles and the parents were allowing it to go on! Adults were leaving winter melon rind, so basically, she was being fed garbage!

We left her an entire head of romaine, cilantro and pellets, but the next evening when we came back she had barely nibbled at the romaine and that was it. Most bunnies would have enjoyed that whole feast. That was a worrisome to us.

This particular HOA, was quite large, but we made sure to check every bush and search for any evidence that could help us determine that she was still in the area. During the search, we were finally able to locate the area that she was using for her bathroom. Rabbits are very clean animals, and even when they are outdoors, fending for themselves, they still tend to use the same place. By examining her p**p we found that she was producing long strands of misshapen, small and very dark p**p. We knew that this meant her digestive system was not very healthy and that if she was not feeling well, she would start hiding more, making her even harder to find. The clock was ticking for her. Not only that, but the weather was changing from cold and windy to hot. Rabbits do not farewell in the heat and can easily go into heatstroke and die. We had to find her.

The second time out, while we were searching the bushes in the areas she had been seen at, someone stole our bag that had all our supplies. We had food and water for her, posters to put up to inform people to call the rescue if people saw her or knew any information, scissors and tape to put them up, a lantern, a blanket and drinks for us as we would spend hours out there each day, etc. We believe it to have been a resident that didn't like us out there. We had already experienced some closed lip individuals that didn't want to help in the cause, but knew about the bunny.

By the fourth day our hopes in finding her was dwindling as we had been told she was out every night, but that seemed to have stopped as soon as we showed up. We also did not see any fresh or new p**p in her area on the fourth day. Our plan for this evening was to put up the posters we had made to replace the ones that have been stolen, and to knock on some of the doors to see if any of the other neighbors had information they were willing to share about the bunny. We started initially by taking a lap around the HOA to see if she was there.

Miraculously, out of the corner of my eye, I caught the slightest little movement underneath a bush. There she was lying flat and blending in with the soil. I told my volunteer and pointed her out and she immediately asked for my keys so she could run and get the xpen from the car. I stayed to keep eyes on the bunny. She was in a perfect place and all we were going to have to do is each take an end of the xpen and slowly incircle the bush and we would have her.

All of a sudden, a man came out of his condo and asked what I was doing there. Mind you I was standing on a path in the common area and nowhere near his property. I immediately told him who I was and to please not come any closer as the bunny was right there, and not to scare her. The man continued to purposely head towards the bush the bunny was under. I again asked him to please stop as we have been trying to find and rescue her for days. He replied back to me that the bunny is there all the time and continued towards the bush. I again asked for him to stop that she was going to dart if he continued to move towards her and told him that domestic bunnies should not be running around neighborhoods. Right as my volunteer rounded the corner with the xpen, the man took the last few steps to the bush and the bunny darted. We tried to stop her, but she was too quick and she ended up running across the street right next to a very busy intersection. If a car had decided to turn right at that moment, she would've been killed. We followed after her as best we could so that we wouldn't lose eyes on her. She ran under a truck and we tried our best to block an area off, but she must've darted in the couple seconds we were facing the other way.

What that man did was completely unnecessary, heartless and selfish. He put the bunny in eminent danger after I repeatedly told him to stop. For those of you who do not know me, I am disabled and walking is hard enough for me not to mention trying to run after a bunny. Normally, I would send volunteers out to rescue stray bunnies that are running outdoors, but no one was available, and my heart could not just leave her there. So, his selfish act made her rescue even more difficult.

Since I now knew she was still in the area, I started to place calls in the hopes I could get someone else out to help us as we would have to locate her once again and the search area now had grown larger as she was now in a completely different apartment area. A couple of my regular volunteers said that they would be able to join us after work. While we waited, we continued to try to find the bunny.

Finally, my volunteer located her and started to ever so slowly creep near her tossing small pieces of banana to entice her. My other volunteer showed up at the perfect moment as the bunny had moved under a staircase, and we were able to block her in using the xpen and two of us to man the open areas. My other volunteer got inside and within a couple attempts was able to get her.

We named her Sage as there was a large amount of Sage near the staircase where we rescued her.

We would like to give a big shout out to Renaygarseeya Renaygarseeya for posting about Sage being in the HOA car park when he saw her. Without him doing that she would have never been rescued. Also, a SUPER big thank you to my 2 volunteers who actively participated in her rescue.
