Bunny Friends, while at one of our bunny appointments this week our vet informed us that she had 2 confirmed RHDV2 cases. The bunnies were from the same household and passed within days of each other. The diagnosis was made postmortem as it was sudden death. The bunnies were indoor bunnies. Due to privacy laws, she could not give us any more details but wanted us to be aware, so that we can help get the word out for people to make sure they get their bunnies vaccinated if they have not done so yet.

The vaccine that is approved in the US is made by Medgene and is safe. The first year your bunny is vaccinated they will need 2 doses 21 days apart. After that they will only need one booster dose annually. We've included a few resource links about the disease, vaccine and recommendations to help keep your bunnies safe.

Wednesday and Pugsley, who we rescued from Hitchcock Road Animal Services, moved into their new foster home this evening and settled right in. Wednesday even started nibbling hay as soon as she was put in her new space. We are so grateful to all our fosters. Without fosters we cannot continue our work helping bunnies. If you are interested in adopting or fostering any of our rabbits please text (408)771-3271 or send a DM.

Please sign & share. You wouldn't let people do this with cats or dogs so why is this ok with rabbits? Rabbits live in family homes, use litter boxes, come when you call and are extremely smart. It's our job as a rescue to help educate the public and change the views towards rabbits. They should not be thought of as "meat rabbits" anymore they are companion rabbits. This practice is outdated and needs to stop.

People never seem to believe us when we tell them how loving bunnies are and that they form deep connections with their hoomins just like cats and dogs. They are super smart, use a litter box, play with toys and will make you laugh and smile all day. They learn their names, come when you call (if they feel like it at the moment) and are excellent time keepers who will let you know if you are late bringing their meal. They leave you silent little clues like putting a toy in their water bowl to let you know it's almost empty or the not so silent clues like picking up their bowl and banging it around until they are sure you realize it must be refilled right now! The answer to the most asked question after you tell people these things, "but they can't snuggle with you, sit with you or sleep with you like a cat or a dog?" Yes! Yes, they can and they will. Open your heart to a bunny and they'll open their heart right back. It takes patience, especially for the rescue bunnies with traumatic backgrounds, but when you gain their trust, no bunny will love you more. This is how my bunny and me start each morning. He jumps up on the bed, nose bops me awake, settles into the crook of my arm and we snuggle for about an hour. For those that do not believe these tales to be true, here's some video evidence. If you look closely, you will see his cheeks vibrate and move as I pet him. This is him purring. Yes, bunnies purr when they are happy and content by rubbing their teeth together. You need to be careful to not confuse purring and pain though because bunnies will grind their teeth when in pain. We tell people the easiest way to know is read the room. Is bunny getting loves and pets, or is bunny huddled in the corner? Shouldn't be too hard to figure out.

If you are ready to open your heart to a rescue bunny either by fostering or adopting, send us a message or text 408-771-3271. We have bunnies waiting to meet you! Wishing happy bunny snuggles to all!

Hoppip is such a good brother to Pidgey and always there to support him. Even if that support is allowing Pidgey to stand on his head so he can get closer to the food heading their way! Such brotherly love! 🤣🐰❤️🐰 Hoppip and Pidgey have been with us since they were a week old and have just turned one. They are available for fostering or adoption. Text (408)771-3271 if interested. We can provide foster setup.

We need to move our sweet Snowy into a new foster home ASAP. Snowy is one of the rabbits we rescued from Hitchcock Road Animal Services. Snowy is about 6.5 months old and he gets along fine with kitties. No experience is necessary and we can provide setup and training. If you've been thinking about getting a bunny fostering is a nice way to see if a bunny is a good fit for your family. Looking for a friend for your bunny? We are experts in bonding. Snowy could be that friend your bunny is missing. Text us at (408)771-3271 or send us a message if you could foster or are interested in adopting Snowy.

Update on Abigail. She had her surgery with Dr. Stern to remove her tumor. The pathology has come back and it was a carcinoma which can be very aggressive. Dr. Stern believes she was able to get all of it, but she will need to be monitored closely as they can come back. Thank you to everyone who helped towards Abigail's surgery. Her mama, her bunny brothers and sisters and us are eternally grateful.

Been helping with a lot of bondings recently. It's honestly my favorite part of rescue. Seeing that new love grow and blossom is so special.
Ginger (Lionhead) and Pan (Lop) were referred by The Rabbit Haven for assistance with bonding. They would seem ok with each other during bonding sessions at events, but at home it was a full on smackdown leading to a couple injuries.
Their hoomins had adopted Ginger first, a few years back, and had returned to find her a bunny friend as Ginger was getting stressed out when her hoomin kid was at his mom's.
They quickly fell in love with Pan, but the fighting and difficulties between the bunnies was leading to severe stress in the hoomins as the thought of having to give him up if he didn't work out was too painful to think about. On top of that the dad had a back injury making it hard to travel to the events for more bonding help.
We of course said we would be happy to help. If at all possible we want bunnies to stay in their homes. Bunnies remember you and having to change homes and caretakers multiple times leaves them with a little more baggage each time it happens.
An appointment was made for the next week when both dad and son could attend. Part of our bonding work is educating owners on how and when you need to step in so it's important owners be present. We will also explain bunny language and behaviors to you during the process so you have a better understanding of what is going on.
The big day arrived and a few hours later we had mutual grooming, mirroring and cuddling. 💕🐰🐰
No more fighting for these two! All check-ins have been positive. We are so happy for this furry couple and their hoomins!

My very good friend Sasha needs help to pay for her bunny's surgery. Abigail the bunny has a cancerous tumor that needs to be removed. Sasha has always been there to support any bunny in need. When the fires were burning during lockdown she took in others' bunnies to get them out of the smoke. When we were working on trying to save rabbits from a rescue that was finally forced to close due to negligence and abuse, Sasha stepped in and adopted bunnies that needed sanctuary to get them out of there. She even paid for the vet bills with her own money to treat a bunny that we rescued from the same place who was discovered to have 2 broken feet with dead bone sticking out of them and severe infections.
Abigail happens to be one of these sanctuary bunnies. Abigail was forced to have babies at that rescue due to negligence and carelessness causing "accidental" litters all the time. She lived in filth with her babies in a dirty hutch until she was finally adopted and bonded to another bunny that had been adopted from the same place.
Abigail and her husbun were returned to the rescue due to unforeseen events. When Sasha heard they were back at the rescue, she went straight there and asked to adopt them to save them.
It was during the heat of the Summer where many bunnies would perish at the rescue every year as the bunnies were kept outdoors in hutches and dog crates with very little water, if at all. Due to cramped and dirty conditions, because there were so many rabbits, disease also spread rampant. This year the fires were also burning and the bunnies were in the smoke.
Sasha was told "no." The director had grown suspicious of her because she was helping the bunnies. This didn't stop Sasha though. She was determined to save Abigail and her husbun. She continued to go and ask until finally the director gave in and let her adopt them. They have known nothing but love ever since.
Now it's our turn to help Sasha and Abigail. Sasha has kept her safe and happy for all this time and losing Abigail would devastate her and Abigail's husbun.
Please help save Abigail.

These babies are just too adorable to watch. It's been warm so we gave them a small frozen water bottle and they are in total bliss! Wednesday and Pugsley are available for foster. Please text 408-771-3271 if you are interested in providing a temporary home for these little ones to grow up a little more before they'll be ready for adoption.

The littles we rescued from Hitchcock Road Animal Services are here! Thank you, Caitlin Lupien for transporting them to us yesterday! These babies are very young. So young in fact, it was difficult for an experienced rabbit person to confirm with a hundred percent accuracy their s*x. We have confirmed that yes, they are indeed a male and female as thought. They will obviously need to be split up, at least for a little bit, as they mature and get their respective spay and neuter done, but for now, at this age they will thrive much better together. They are very close and always touching each other. These babies have been through a very scary experience from being on the street, captured, stay at a shelter where they were in risk of euthanasia due to overcrowding and then switching caretakers and environments in a very short period of time, along with a long car ride to safety. The one constant they have had is each other which they are clinging to. If at all possible, we would like these brother and sister to stay together for now due to such a young age. They will share the same space, litter box, bowls, toys, etc. so it's not that much different than what it would be like if you fostered just one. Will someone please come forward to foster these sweet babies together? We are in the San Jose/Los Gatos area and will be keeping a close eye on them as they mature so we can get their spay/neuters done when required and monitor their growth and health. You need to have reliable transportation to make it to these visits. Please text (408) 771-3271 ASAP if you can help. We need to get them moved into foster right away. Thank you!

Snowy has recovered nicely from his neuter and now he is being spoiled by his new foster mama! He's enjoying exploring his new home and making friends with the other resident furbabies (supervised). The kitty in the picture is his best buddy. Thank you again to the people that helped sponsor the bunnies we rescued from Hitchcock Road Animal Services. They are alive and living in safe indoor homes where they are loved. We couldn't do what we do without you!
